Puerto Vallarta Sunrise Time – Sunrise over the Sierra Madre Mountains: Puerto Vallarta is famous for its incredible sunsets into the Bay of Banderas. Tourists rave about them and the locals and expatriate communities who live here always stop to watch and admire. Equally as impressive are the sunrises over the mountains however unless you have a boat and are out in the bay you really can’t fully appreciate these.
We love to catch an early morning fishing charter leaving the marina before the sunrise so we can capture its spender when it crests the mountain peaks. Often colouring the peaks in an ochre to red, the view makes for a perfect start to the day and any fishing trip.

Where to watch the sunrise in Puerto Vallarta?
To watch the sunrise in Puerto Vallarta, the best places are the Mirador de la Cruz (Cross Lookout) for its panoramic view of the city and the bay, and the Malecón (boardwalk) area to enjoy the colors reflected in the sea and the sculptures. You can also consider walking along the easternmost beaches, such as Playa Los Muertos, for a close-up view of the rising sun over the water.
Recommended places
Mirador de la Cruz: It offers a panoramic view of the rooftops of the historic center, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains.
Although it is more famous for the sunset, the sunrise view is also spectacular. Keep in mind that there are many steps to climb to reach it.
Malecón: It is the cultural heart of the city and offers a boardwalk with sculptures.
You can enjoy the sunrise while walking, as the golden rays of the sun paint the center and the sea. Beaches: Los Muertos Beach: One of the city’s most popular beaches, ideal for watching the sunrise over the water. Other beaches on the east coast, such as those in Nuevo Vallarta, might offer a good view.
Additional Tips Arrive early: To capture the best sunrise colors, it’s important to arrive at your destination before the sun is fully up. Prepare your camera gear: The sunrise light can be spectacular, so make sure you have your camera or phone ready to take pictures. Keep the weather in mind: Weather conditions can affect sunrise visibility. Check the forecast before you go.

Travvy Awards for Puerto Vallarta. A Year of International Recognition for Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta caps off a year of great triumphs by winning four Travvy Awards at the 2025 edition of these prestigious awards.
Travvy Awards for Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta continues to write its success story on the international tourism stage by being honored with four awards at the 2025 Travvy Awards, considered the highest recognition in the U.S. travel industry.
The destination was distinguished as Best Destination in Mexico, Best Culinary Destination in Mexico, Best Honeymoon Destination in Mexico, and Best Tourism Board in Mexico, the latter award given to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust for its outstanding work in promotion and positioning on a global scale.
Organized by TravelPulse and AGENTatHOME, the Travvy Awards honor the best in global tourism. The nominees are selected by the editorial teams of both publications, while the winners are chosen by American travel advisors, lending these awards significant legitimacy within the industry.
With these accolades, Puerto Vallarta reaffirms its leadership as one of the most admired destinations for North American travelers, standing out for its hospitality, authenticity, natural landscapes, and a tourism offering that combines tradition, culture, gastronomy, and unique seaside experiences.
The award for Best Culinary Destination in Mexico celebrates the flavor and talent that distinguish the city, home to major internationally renowned gastronomic festivals such as the International Gourmet Festival, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and Vallarta Nayarit Gastronómica, an event that brings together the industry’s leading figures, including renowned Michelin-starred chefs.
Likewise, festivals like Vinoma, one of the country’s premier wine celebrations, and the Vallarta Grill Festival, a true feast for grill lovers, solidify the destination’s position as a national and international culinary benchmark.
The award for Best Honeymoon Destination in Mexico recognizes Puerto Vallarta’s romantic charm, whose dreamy natural landscapes, multicolored sunsets, and warm hospitality have made it an ideal setting to celebrate love.
With these accolades, Puerto Vallarta caps off an exceptional year, as 2025 has also been recognized as one of the best small cities in the world in Condé Nast Traveler’s annual survey and as a leading gastronomic destination and LGBTQ+ tourism destination at the Magellan Awards.
Furthermore, it was awarded the 2025 Meetings and Events Excellence Medal thanks to its outstanding offerings for the MICE segment and achieved a prominent ranking on CVent, the leading US platform for finding event venues.
These achievements solidify Puerto Vallarta’s position as a world-class destination, a source of pride for Mexico and an example of tourism excellence that continues to strengthen its international presence as a place that inspires, captivates, and leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.

We recommend this as prices are posted and fair. Just go to the window , pay for your ride and then exit the terminal where you can find your taxi. If you wish to use a more cost effective option then consider Uber or the city bus. The city bus arrives generally every 10 minutes and costs only 10 pesos. You just need to be be mindful that the buses can be crowded and are not overly amenable to large luggage. Uber transport can be obtained by crossing over the highway via an elevated walkway.
