The climatic conditions in Mexico could soon undergo drastic changes, and it is expected that the La Niña Phenomenon, contrary to what was El Niño with extreme heat, will bring a more active hurricane season, as well as storms and wind; on what date?
Today Mexico has already suffered the effects of Storm Alberto and Hurricane Beryl, but in the coming weeks the La Niña Phenomenon, if it gains the necessary strength, would considerably alter climatic conditions and its effects on the country.
On what date would La Niña form in Mexico?
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) indicates that the La Niña Phenomenon has a 55% probability of forming in this month of July and August, although be careful, it rises to 77% if we talk about September and October.
This climatic phenomenon is characterized by large-scale cooling of the surface of the equatorial Pacific Ocean, causing changes in climatic patterns and generating, in an unusual way, more intense rains, gusts of wind and promoting the formation of Hurricanes.
Hurricane season 2024.
For this 2024 Hurricane season, which started very late, 15 to 18 phenomena were planned in the Pacific Ocean, and 20 to 23 in the Atlantic Ocean. La Niña phenomenon could help its formation.

During rainy season, it does NOT rain every day, but the rainfall generally lasts for just a few hours and typically only comes around at night. Darker clouds begin to roll in during the early evening, around five o’clock, signaling potential rain storms. Then, after an hour or so on the average day, the tropical breezes blow the storm away. Because it often rains at the same time each day in the evening, locals and guests can adjust their plans accordingly to stay dry during the rainfall before returning to fun in the sun along the beautiful beaches.
The Puerto Vallarta weather heats up in the summer, which makes the water temperatures perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. As the rainy season approaches at the end of June, the air becomes more humid, but the fresh rains breathe new life into the mountain jungles, turning leaves an emerald green.
The Puerto Vallarta seasons are all unique and bring forth different types of beauty. The cool rains in the evening combined with the brilliant sunshine during the day renews life in the mountain forests after many dry months. Lush leaves unfold from branches, and the mountains are verdant and alive. The emerald green of the jungle not only makes this a beautiful sight, but it is also the perfect time for an outdoor adventure of zip lining or riding ATVs on the mountain trails. When the rain does come, dazzling bolts of lightning light up the sky over the water, creating a spectacular show that can be viewed right from the balcony of your spacious suite at your favorite beach resorts.
The myths about rainy season fail to capture the radiant sunshine, the warm sea breeze, and the cool evenings that fill each day when you visit Puerto Vallarta. As it does throughout the rest of the year, during rainy season the sun is out everyday and the ocean is waiting for you to jump in and cool off after lounging on the beach. Puerto Vallarta weather during the day is warm in rainy season, but the rainfall cools the air, leaving your evenings pleasant and enjoyable for eating outdoors or strolling along the sea as the sun sets.
You may want to be indoors when the water hits, but you may also be tempted to dance in the rain and play in the puddles. Even if you head for the indoors, it will only be for an hour or two in the evenings before you can head back out. You can also explore the beauty of downtown or participate in one of the many Puerto Vallarta family activities outside. Then, head back to your welcoming suite to relax and clean up before enjoying a delicious dinner in the cool of the evening at one of the many fantastic Puerto Vallarta restaurants after the breeze has blown away the rain.
Puerto Vallarta weather is enjoyable all year long. The Puerto Vallarta seasons each bring something special to the bay and beaches, and rainy season brings peacefully cool evenings, verdant greenery, spectacular lightning shows, and warm days. Do not listen to the myths about rainy season. See the true beauty of June through October in Puerto Vallarta when you come to visit.
When is Hurricane Season
Before hurricane season in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta begins to have almost daily rain showers between June and early October. However, these showers are predictable, falling most afternoons around 4pm, making it easy to plan your day around the Puerto Vallarta weather. These months are considered the Pacific hurricane season, but any hurricane Puerto Vallarta gets is more likely to strike in August or September.
You might hear local weather forecast predictions for hurricanes rising up the west coast of Mexico. However, the natural geography of Puerto Vallarta protects it during hurricane season in Mexico. The Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains to the south slow down storms, and since Puerto Vallarta is tucked back into the Bay of Banderas, most any hurricane Puerto Vallarta hears about passes by farther out at sea. By the time any of them do make landfall, they are typically downgraded to a tropical storm.
If you look up when is hurricane season and see that it aligns with your vacation, do not worry. You can still have a fantastic time in Puerto Vallarta. Plan your days with outdoor activities and beach time in the mornings and early afternoons. When the showers start to fall, head inside for a cooking class, spa services, or a nap in bed with a good book. If a tropical storm or hurricane is expected, the staff at your resort has an emergency plan in place to protect you and your family. Because they are familiar with this season, follow their guidelines.
Once November hits, temperatures start to drop, and many travelers find themselves needing a light jacket in the mornings and evenings in January. The cooler weather stays throughout the month of May when the local weather forecast shows rising temperatures.
Best Time to Visit Puerto Vallarta: Seize the Moment
For savvy travelers who want to enjoy the ocean and save money on a beach vacation, the rainy season is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta. Since tourism is slower, airlines, resorts, and tour companies offer their hottest deals during the summer and fall. Plus, the warm temperatures mean you won’t get chilly while snorkeling or scuba diving. You can also stay cool with an icy margarita by the pool or in a shaded hammock under a palm tree.
Puerto Vallarta, a tourist favorite among the top Mexican destinations, boasts a captivating blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and enticing weather. Whether you’re drawn to its golden beaches, lush jungles, or the vibrant Mexican culture that flows through its streets, understanding the weather patterns and safety precautions is essential for a memorable visit.
Puerto Vallarta Weather: Embrace the Sunshine
With its tropical climate, Puerto Vallarta enjoys warm weather throughout the year, making it an idyllic escape for sun-seekers. Temperatures typically range from the mid-70s to the mid-90s, ensuring plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures and relaxation and making anytime the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta.
Expect refreshing sea breezes to temper the heat, especially during the scorching summer months, and cool ocean dips to bring you reprieve when you need it most. And while stormy showers frequent nights during the summer months, there are still an amazing average of 8 hours of sunshine a day to play with. Puerto Vallarta weather is truly one of the destination’s greatest attributes.
