Keeping Cool, Without Air Conditioning in Puerto Vallarta

Tips for keeping your house cool in the summer months in Puerto Vallarta, which do not require turning on the a/c unit, helping to keep your energy bills low and helping the environment at the same time.

Go to a Beach Club, get in the ocean, have some cool Margaritas or a bucket of Beer.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Warmer days are upon us as spring turns to summer, and you may be starting to feel the change of temperature in your home or condominium.

We have some tips for keeping your house cool in the summer months in Puerto Vallarta, which don’t require turning on the a/c unit, helping to keep your energy bills low and helping the environment at the same time.

Spend time at the Galerias shopping Center.

  • Close the blinds or use black-out curtains to reduce the unwanted interior temperature of your property by up to 30% or more.
  • Close the doors to unused rooms and focus on keeping the rooms you are utilizing at their coolest temperatures.
  • Switch over to 100% cotton bedding for a cooler night’s sleep.
  • Place bowls of ice in front of table fans for a “DIY” air-conditioning unit.

Take a walk inside Costco produce cooler and have lunch and Stretch it!

  • Check your fan rotation. Most people don’t realize that ceiling fans can rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. In the summer months, switch yours to counterclockwise to get a cooling, breezy effect in your home.
  • Keep cooking outside of the house. Now is BBQ weather and avoid heating up your home with the stove top or oven as much as possible.
  • If you must sleep with the air-conditioning on, remember to program your remote to turn off periodically during the night and then restart, to save money while you slumber.

Prepare a Michelada!

Sea Turtle Nesting Season on Puerto Vallarta

0

Every year from June to September, thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles come to lay their eggs on Banderas Bay beaches. After about 45 days of incubation, the hatch-lings are born and ready to be released into the sea.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – It’s not just tourists that like the beaches of Banderas Bay. Sea turtles love them, too! The Bay of Banderas is the birthplace of thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles and every year from June to September they return to the beaches on which they were born to lay their eggs.

Sea Turtles Protection and Releasing Program https://promovisionpv.com/sea-turtles-protection-and-releasing-program/

Normally the eggs would incubate in the sand, but recreational activities on Vallarta-Nayarit beaches make them dangerous places for baby turtles, so the local hotel industry has been involved in sea turtle conservation and protection efforts for the last 38 years.

With the support of professional marine biologists and the Municipal Departments of Environment and Ecology, many Banderas Bay area resorts run turtle conservation and protection programs that give turtle-loving travelers an opportunity to take part in this unique educational vacation experience.

Some hotels (Marriott, Puerto Vallarta) invite guests to participate in nightly beach patrols in search of turtle nests, under the guidance of a marine biologist. When a nest is found, participants help gather the eggs and transport them, still in their nests, to sea turtle nurseries for incubation.

Approximately 45 days later, the baby turtles emerge from their eggs. When the hatch-lings are ready to be released, participants are invited to name the turtles, wish them luck and set them free in the sea at the edge of the resort’s beach, where some of them will return a decade later to start the process all over again.

There are also a number of ecological groups in the greater Banderas Bay area that run turtle camps that give participants the opportunity to learn more about the Olive Ridley, while creating environmental awareness and encouraging others to help save them. Among them are: Campamentos Tortugueros Boca de Tomates, just north of Marina Vallarta; and, in the Riviera Nayarit, Grupo Ecologico de la Costa Verde’s Marine Turtle Nursery.

During the summer and fall months, travelers can volunteer or go on tours of these nurseries and nesting sites to learn about the fascinating life cycle of sea turtles for just one night or by participating in a two-month-long volunteer project, subject to availability. For more information, visit project-tortuga.org.

Before the development of programs such as these, only 40% of the eggs that were laid along the shores of Banderas Bay survived, but today, thanks to programs such as these, almost 96% of the eggs deposited are incubated successfully.
Turtle-loving travelers heading to Puerto Vallarta this summer are invited to join one of the Banderas Bay region’s many sea turtle protection programs, which help thousands of baby Olive Ridley sea turtles survive long enough to reach the sea.

You are safer in Puerto Vallarta than just about anyplace we have ever been, because most people come here to have fun, not get into trouble. For visitors and residents alike, staying safe is pretty simple: use common sense. In case of emergency dial 911

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Recently someone posted on a well-known Facebook thread, asking what type of protection they need in Puerto Vallarta. The responses, as usual, got out of hand and the thread had to be closed due to nastiness on the part of some of the commenters. This is too bad because it’s an issue that should be addressed with finesse and logic.

Puerto Vallarta is positioned as one of the 10 “Friendliest Cities in the World” 2023 https://promovisionpv.com/puerto-vallarta-is-positioned-as-one-of-the-10-friendliest-cities-in-the-world/

As we have said before in these guest columns, guns are not legal in Mexico. There is only one gun store in all of Mexico in the capitol, Mexico City. To purchase ammunition, one must go to a separate location. Can one still buy a gun in other places in Mexico? Sure, on the Black Market… it’s so verboten just thinking about it could get you deported. Shootings in Puerto Vallarta are rare. You are much more likely to die from being run over by a bus or taxi for not paying attention when you cross the street.

Potentially being the victim of crime is what most people think about when considering a vacation in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Pepper spray was brought up in the conversation and there’s a debate as to whether it’s legal. It depends on who you talk to apparently, but the laws regarding its possession and use are shady and not concise. We recommend carrying a bottle of strong perfume. It’ll likely have the same affect.

A local Mexican commented on the Facebook thread that it is much safer in Puerto Vallarta, not only due to gun laws, but also because most people come here to have fun, not get into trouble. He also mentioned that Mexico doesn’t target particular racial groups, making them a target of violence. Everyone is welcome in Puerto Vallarta and all of Mexico.

Puerto Vallarta is the second safest city in the country, Security, Tourism https://promovisionpv.com/puerto-vallarta-is-the-second-safest-city-in-the-country-security-tourism/

What should you do to protect yourself in Puerto Vallarta? Use common sense. Do not flash wads of cash around and avoid carrying large amounts of money. Does not this apply to anywhere you travel? Regarding comments about wearing expensive jewelry; it’s far better to have it on your person than leave it lying around. If you bring it, wear it.

It is really okay to stay out late and party, go dancing in the clubs, and get late-night tacos on the street. Once you’re ready to go home, walk on the main streets and know where you’re going. Use taxis; there are plenty around, even in the middle of the night. Uber is in Puerto Vallarta now and rides are extremely reasonable. Get the app on your phone before you come. If possible, move around town with friends.

In the daytime, you are safer in Puerto Vallarta than just about anyplace we have ever been; but watch out for the aforementioned buses. If you’re alone, don’t drink so much it impairs your judgment. Keep a copy of your ID on you at all times and write down the address where you are staying. Make yourself familiar with your surroundings so you do not get lost. Be friendly. Speak a little Spanish.

Vallarta Ceviche & Aguachile Festival Returns July 28

On Sunday, July 28, from 1:00 to 10:00 pm, visitors can try different recipes and styles of two of Puerto Vallarta’s traditional dishes at the 8th Festival del Ceviche y Aguachile to be held at Hidalgo Park.

Everyone is invited to come out and discover the many different styles of two of the city’s most traditional dishes, Ceviche & Aguachile, at very reasonable prices.

A traditional Mexican dish, Ceviche is a concoction of fresh fish or shrimp “cooked” (marinated) in lime juice with tomatoes, onions and green chilies. But the Puerto Vallarta recipe is a little different than what you’ll typically find in other regions. In the Banderas Bay area, carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and other ingredients are often added to the mix.

The second traditional dish that participating restaurants will be offering is Aguachile. Similar to Ceviche, the most classic version is made with fresh raw shrimp, cucumber, red onion, lime juice, and chiles (typically serranos or jalapeños) that have been pulverized with some water – hence the name. It is usually served with avocado and tostadas, along with beer and tequila.

During the festival, both specialties will be served on tostadas, and you can sample 30 different varieties of Ceviche and Aguachile prepared by local restaurants.

To complement the fabulous food, there will also be refreshing drinks typical of the region, specialty cocktails prepared with raicilla, ice-cold local craft beers, and delicious helados and paletas (ice creams and popsicles) available for purchase.

Puerto Vallarta is renowned for its international cuisine and variety of flavors, in an effort to promote the local food culture and the different flavors that our talented chefs offer visitors.

Make plans now to come out to Hidalgo Park on Sunday, July 28, for the Festival del Ceviche y Aguachile. You will enjoy two of Puerto Vallarta’s most traditional dishes, complemented by live entertainment at this delightfully delicious, family-friendly event. Admission is free.
