Puerto Vallarta Presents 50 Monumental Catrinas on the Waterfront for the Festival of Souls
From October 25 to November 8, the city offers free cultural programming, parades, video mapping, and culinary experiences for families and visitors.
Illuminated pangas, monumental altars, and a Day of the Dead parade highlight the port’s cultural identity.
The event, which will take place from October 25 to November 8, features the unveiling of the Monumental Catrina (The Guardian of the Ocean, winner of the Guinness World Record for the tallest Catrina skull in the world in 2022 and 2023) at the Malecón Lighthouse, accompanied by an exhibition of 50 large-format Catrinas along the coastal walkway, which will be adorned with marigolds, altars, sculptures, and live music.
Another attraction in the port city during the Festival of Souls is Las Pangas de Luz (The Pangas of Light), a monumental installation of boats decorated with flowers that pays homage to the fishermen and is illuminated at nightfall.
The cultural and tourism offerings integrate commerce, hospitality, and activities along the Malecón, the Historic Center, and the Romantic Zone.
The celebration combines the participation of businesses, restaurants, and students from CUCOSTA with the talent of local artists and guests from states like Aguascalientes and Hidalgo, who enrich the program with culinary demonstrations, altars, Catrina galleries, video mapping, and dance performances.
One of the central events will be the Grand Day of the Dead Parade, organized into five thematic sections and led by elegantly dressed men and women in attire inspired by Old Vallarta. For example, in Indigenous communities, corn continues to play a fundamental role, while local cuisine is part of knowledge passed down through generations.

The gastronomic experience of this state does not end with main dishes. In different municipalities and communities, a variety of drinks and sweets remain part of local traditions, including tejuino, cocadas, soporondongos, torrejas, and buñuelos.
The way they are prepared may vary depending on the context, but each one is part of an everyday cuisine where simple ingredients are transformed through techniques that remain in use today.
For all these reasons, a gastronomic journey through Nayarit can begin along the shores of the Mexican Pacific with a delicious pescado zarandeado, continue to Mexcaltitán Island to discover a cuisine based on shrimp, then explore aromatic Nayarit coffee, and finally end in a community with a traditional drink or sweet treat.

Puerto Vallarta ArtWalk Wednesdays is a self-guided tour through the city’s Historic Center, where visitors can explore local galleries, meet the artists, and experience the vibrant cultural heartbeat of Vallarta every Wednesday evening during the season.
The event runs every Wednesday from October 28th. 2026 to May 26th. 2027 from 6 to 10 pm. Everyone is welcomed to join at their own pace.

What it is: For those working remotely or simply wanting to meet others with similar interests, there are groups and meet-ups oriented around digital nomad & remote-worker lifestyles.
Why it is good:
Combines socialising + networking + meeting people in a similar situation. Many casual events, remote-work mixers, skill-sharing, café meet-ups. Tip: Search Facebook or Meetup for “Puerto Vallarta Digital Nomads”, “Remote Workers PV”, or check coworking spaces in PV for event boards.
What we know: Many expats mention that in PV you will find plenty of clubs, interest-groups (book clubs, salsa dancing, beach groups) to join. Integration is easier if you participate in activities, engage with locals, and don’t rely solely on expat-only groups.
Tip: At arrival: Join one large expat social group (like above) so you get “in”. Pick one hobby you like (e.g., yoga, hiking, language exchange) and use that to meet both locals & internationals.
Online forums & Facebook groups are GOLD for practical questions (visas, housing, local health care).
For many groups, the neighbourhood is not deeply specified “Centro”, “Zona Romántica”, or “Marina” are common. You can ask the organiser when you join.
