Puerto Vallarta protection turtles camp.

Discover Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, conservation and protection turtles camp.

Learn firsthand all about the conservation and care of the sea turtle at the Turtle Camps.

One night in a beach camp can become one of your most unforgettable experiences as you learn about the conservation and care of sea turtles. Many shore line hotel have some turtle camps programs that you can access. Verify with your hotel concierge if they have one or where is the closest.

If you like adventure, the great outdoors, and being up close and personal with nature.

Turtle camp operators hare that the purpose of the camping event was not just to have fun but for you to learn everything related to the conservation and care of the sea turtle. This creature is a protected species according to Official Mexican Standard NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010.

Many camps are certified by Profepa and is self-sustainable.

Activities include a chat on the sea turtle’s life cycle, a visit to an incubation hut, patrols along the beach, and, weather permitting, turtle releasing so you can experience sea turtle conservation on a whole other level.

Releasing turtles can be a great experience that brings together entire families, given how emotional it is to see the hatch-lings take their first steps towards the sea. However, you must respect this remarkable ancient species by taking these simple actions: do not litter, especially with plastic bags and soft drink containers, because turtles can mistake them for jellyfish in the water and die from asphyxiation. Do not touch the turtles or play with them, as they could lose their senses of smell and orientation.

The Yummiest Seafood is in the Riviera Nayarit

0

Many have asked us where to find the best seafood in the Riviera Nayarit, so we’re here to share where to get the tastiest mariscada—literally a Latin-flavored seafoodFEST. Are you ready for a culinary adventure? Keep reading!

You will find this dish in Rincón de Guayabitos, one of the Riviera Nayarit’s 23 micro-destinations. The restaurant is called Pineda and it’s famous for its mariscada, which comes in several different sizes. Depending on how many people are in your group, you can order mariscada for four, eight, or ten people! They have a great menu focused on fruits de mer, but the mariscada is the star. The supporting cast includes coconut shrimp, “mummy” shrimp, fish crackling, “devil” shrimp, shrimp ceviche, and an incredible mango salsa (seriously, you’re going to love it).

When you arrive, they will greet you with a dish of delicious “golden” taquitos stuffed with marlin and a sublime view of Guayabitos, the Pacific, and Isla Coral in the background.

The mariscada is amazing and a favorite with locals and tourists, so we recommend making a reservation especially on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, their busiest days.

What can you do in Rincón de Guayabitos?

After a delicious meal you can spend the afternoon relaxing on the quiet stretch of beach or hop on a boat and go check out the El Toro or Frideritas beaches. Both of these are nearly deserted with gentle waves—if you’re lucky you’ll catch the waterfall that shows up during the season at El Toro. Do not forget to try out the local banana bread and one of the traditional cocadas (coconut treat).

7 Perfect climate nearly year-round

Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit owes much of its charm to the excellent climate it enjoys nearly year-round. Average temperatures range from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit), making it quite pleasant to visit any time of the year and an excellent choice for visitors looking to escape harsh northern winters. However, summers can be a bit hot for some, with average temperatures hovering around 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit). The rainy season begins in June and ends around October.

8 Multicultural weddings

Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit are home to wedding planners specializing in multicultural weddings, meaning they are perfectly qualified to meet the requirements of couples and guests from other countries. Besides the traditional Catholic marriage, these specialists can organize Jewish, Hindu, and Persian ceremonies and even traditional Wixarika spiritual unions.

The Riviera Nayarit offers a wide variety of options for the LGBTQ+ segment. In 2013, Nayarit joined the Mexican states that could perform egalitarian marriages once the local congress approved modifying the Civil Code. Since then, same-sex couples can marry in the destination and the entire state of Nayarit without requesting an “amparo” or order of protection.

10 Biosafety protocols

The Riviera Nayarit’s hotels welcome guests with their already-famous high quality as well as the most advanced safety and hygiene protocols. There was a reason the destination received the Safe Travels Stamp awarded by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) to destinations that comply with the health protocols established for tourist concerns to combat COVID-19.

Starting with Nuevo Nayarit, the Riviera Nayarit includes popular hotel and resort destinations such as Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, the luxury enclaves of Punta de Mita, the bohemian town of Sayulita, and smaller, quieter villages like San Francisco, Lo de Marcos, Guayabitos, and San Blas.

Away from the beach and into the mountainous, jungle-covered interior, a world awaits to be discovered in Nayarit. The state is home to dense jungles and towering volcanoes, centers of indigenous communities, unique cuisine, Magic Towns, and diverse wildlife.

The capital of Nayarit is Tepic, a city whose rich heritage can be seen through its architecture, museums, and traditions. Tepic was founded in 1531 as the capital of the Kingdom of New Galicia, a region that included what is now Jalisco, Colima, Nayarit, Aguascalientes, Durango, Sinaloa, and San Luis Potosí. It was an important center for commerce and European society. A stroll through the center of Tepic is like stepping back in time to its Spanish-influenced past.

It’s one of the best examples of sustainable tourism to visit in Nayarit, with eco-conscious hotels and activities as a focus, thus creating a rich and abundant wildlife community.

The Marias Islands (Las Tres Marías) are a small archipelago located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, at a distance of 58 miles from the coast of the Mexican state of Nayarit. The chain of islands was virtually uninhabited, except for María Madre Island, which until 2019 housed a prison. In 2010, the Marias Islands were designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, a specially protected biodiverse region. The Tres Marías Islands are home to a diverse variety of flora and fauna, including the Three Marias raccoon and the Three Marias white-tailed rabbit.

What is Tejuino? Refreshing ancestral drink in Puerto Vallarta.

0

Tejuino, our refreshing ancestral drink.
Made from fermented corn, piloncillo, lime or lemon, salt, and ice. Tejuino is delicious and refreshing!

Its name comes from the Nahuatl word “tecuin,” which means “heartbeat.” This drink originates from Mexico, specifically from the ancient Western Cultures, such as the Wixárika (Huichol) people, and is popularly made and consumed in Jalisco.

Tejuino is considered a type of corn beer due to the fermentation process that takes between 24 and 48 hours. Its characteristic sweet flavor comes from the sugars in the piloncillo and the starches.

For the Wixárika people, tejuino is the preferred beverage at social events, sports and religious festivities, and during “tesgüinadas.” These are gatherings where important political and economic decisions for the community are made or where challenging tasks requiring the communal participation of men are undertaken. Additionally, tejuino, when mixed with breast milk or diluted in water, is consumed by infants and children.

How do people usually drink tejuino?

This beverage is very popular in our state; you can find it in all regions of Jalisco and it is generally sold in public squares. Some people prefer to add lemon, salt, and even chili powder, and it is very common to find it served with a scoop of lemon sherbet.

No matter how you choose to enjoy tejuino, this beverage is very refreshing and delicious—something you must try on your next visit to Puerto Vallarta.

You can also make your own homemade tejuino with corn dough, piloncillo, water, salt, lime, and ice to taste. Since its fermentation period is very short, you won’t have to wait long to enjoy it. Give it a try!
