0

Team Angels https://pvangels.com/news/7708/supporting-banderas-bay-charities-matters

Banderas Bay, with its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, offers an unforgettable experience for visitors. But beyond the tourist facade lies a community with diverse needs. Here’s why supporting Vallarta-Nayarit charities is crucial for the well-being of the cities, towns, and its people:

Strengthens the Social Fabric: Charities address a wide range of social issues, from poverty and education to healthcare and environmental protection. By supporting them, you contribute to building a stronger, more equitable community for everyone.

Empowers Individuals: Charities provide essential services and resources that empower individuals and families to overcome challenges and improve their lives. Your contribution can help someone access education, healthcare, or even start a small business.

Preserves Cultural Heritage: Many charities work towards preserving Vallarta-Nayarit’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, and natural beauty. Your support can ensure these treasures are protected for future generations.

Enhances Tourism: A thriving community with strong social programs creates a more welcoming and sustainable environment for tourism. Contributing to charities helps maintain the beauty and charm that attracts visitors to Vallarta-Nayarit in the first place.

Creates a Positive Ripple Effect: Every contribution, big or small, creates a ripple effect. Your support inspires others to give back, fostering a culture of generosity and compassion within the community.

Beyond Donations:

Giving back goes beyond financial contributions. Here are additional ways to support Vallarta-Nayarit charities:

Volunteer your time and skills
Organize a fundraising event
Donate needed supplies or goods
Raise awareness about a specific cause
Choose businesses that support local charities

By getting involved, you become part of the solution and contribute to a brighter future for Banderas Bay. Remember, every action counts!

8 Things to Do for Free in Puerto Vallarta Experience

0

Puerto Vallarta excels at providing unforgettable travel experiences for all lifestyles, travelers and budgets. You will find a wide variety of free activities to enjoy with family, friends or even if you are traveling alone in the “Friendliest City in the World.”

All about Puerto Vallarta

From taking a leisurely stroll along Puerto Vallarta’s Malecon boardwalk, to exploring some of the city’s most charming neighborhoods, to enjoying the natural wonders that the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Pacific Ocean have to offer.

Here are the top 8 things to do in Puerto Vallarta, no matter what time of the year it is and without having to spend a single peso.

TAKE A STROLL DOWN THE MALECON

The Malecon boardwalk is undoubtedly one of the must-see attractions in Puerto Vallarta. This pedestrian promenade offers beautiful ocean views and a family, festive and very safe atmosphere for one kilometer along the coast. Don’t miss the opportunity to take pictures of the many sculptures by renowned artists and browse the many shops, boutiques, art galleries, bars, cafes and restaurants nearby.

TAKE PART IN A SEA TURTLE RELEASE

You can participate in sea turtle releases in Puerto Vallarta from July through December. The Turtle Camps and Hotels have their own programs to help protect the turtles, coordinated with the local government. Accompany the hatchlings from their nest to the beach where they begin their adventure towards the sea. This is a fun activity for the whole family. The release of the turtles is free of charge, open to the general public and takes place at sunset.

VISIT THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

One of the symbols of Puerto Vallarta and home to the city’s most important religious celebrations: the Fiestas Guadalupanas. In 2023, the temple is celebrating its centennial and the first phase of its Parish Museum was recently opened. It features several rooms where sacred art, photographs, objects, historical documents, and temporary exhibitions are on display. There are also guided tours available by donation (hours: 10:00am-7:00pm) that allow you to visit the interior of the main tower and the bell tower of the church and enjoy a unique view of Downtown Puerto Vallarta.

TAKE A GUIDED TOUR OF THE EL SALADO ESTUARY

El Salado Estuary State Park began offering free guided tours when it reopened last April. This important ecosystem in Puerto Vallarta, home to numerous species of birds, plants, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, is explained in detail by expert guides. This natural reserve is ideal to visit with children and in general with the whole family, as you travel by boat through the estuary channels. The duration of the tour is approximately one and a half hours. You will enjoy an enviable panoramic view of Marina Vallarta and the city from the viewpoint. You can book directly through their official Facebook page: Estero El Salado.

BIKE LANE TOUR: HOTEL ZONE TO THE ROMANTIC ZONE

Getting to know Puerto Vallarta is best done by foot. Whether it is walking along its cobblestone streets or on the soft, golden sand of its beaches, as well as its walking paths, parks and gardens. However, a unique and exciting experience is the exploration of the city by bicycle, as there are a wide variety of routes for cyclists of all levels and abilities. The bike lane that runs parallel to the main boulevard is a fun, safe and very accessible way to start your adventure on two wheels. You can pedal in a straight line south through the Hotel Zone, starting from La Isla Shopping Mall. Pass the Sheraton Buganvilias Resort and the narrow pedestrian bridge at the entrance to Colonia 5 de Diciembre. Continue along Mexico Avenue to the Rosita Hotel. Cross the downtown area in the designated lane on the Malecon boardwalk, cross the bridge over the Cuale River, and continue on your way to the esplanade of the Lazaro Cardenas Park in the heart of the Romantic Zone. If you plan to bike this approximately three-mile scenic route, choose the late afternoon and stay hydrated.

COOL OFF AT THE PALO MARÍA WATERFALLS

This is an ideal option for those who like to hike and enjoy the outdoors. The waterfalls of the Palo Maria River are located south of Puerto Vallarta. The entrance is at the foot of Federal Highway 200, very close to the Hotel Garza Blanca. You will enter the rainforest and continue your hike upstream for about 15 minutes. You will come face to face with a waterfall and several crystalline swimming pools formed by the stream’s tributary. Remember that walking uphill can be strenuous, so this activity it’s not recommended for children, the elderly or those with limited mobility. Be especially careful during the summer months: the river can rise unexpectedly during the rainy season.

ENJOY THE VIEW FROM MATAMOROS LIGHTHOUSE

Located in the upper part of Downtown Puerto Vallarta, the old lighthouse on Matamoros Street offers a panoramic view of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, the Old Town and the picturesque group of terra cotta roofs and white facades that give the city its charm. The lighthouse was built in 1932 and for more than 40 years it was responsible for guiding all ships arriving in Banderas Bay to a safe harbor. The lighthouse was out of service in 1978. It was not until 2006 that it was rescued and reopened to the public. The lighthouse of Matamoros is also one of our favorite places to take some of the best pictures of Puerto Vallarta.

SUNSET VIEWS FROM THE BRIDGE OVER THE CUALE RIVER

Puerto Vallarta is world-famous for its sunsets. Our visitors call them ‘magical’, ‘unique’, ‘romantic’ and ‘spectacular’, wouldn’t you agree? The bridge over the Cuale River that connects Puerto Vallarta’s Malecon boardwalk to the Romantic Zone is one of our favorite places to watch the sunset. Its location in front of the beach gives you an elevated vantage point from which to admire the sunset without any distractions. Take a seat on one of the benches along the bridge. Watch the warm colors of the evening sky as the sun sinks into the waters of the Mexican Pacific. If you want to feel even closer to the ocean, there is a small overlook at the south end of the bridge—a less traveled spot and therefore a favorite of couples.

Want even more suggestions? To enjoy Puerto Vallarta like a local and without spending a single peso, here are some additional ideas. Keep in mind that there are options to suit all tastes and interests, and most of them are suitable for everyone, regardless of their physical condition, with the exception of the hike to Cerro de la Cruz and to Colomitos.

· Hike to Cerro de la Cruz lookout

· Visit the John Huston sculpture on Cuale River Island

· Hike from Boca de Tomatlan to Colomitos

· Stroll the boardwalk in Marina Vallarta

· Listen to the music of the Municipal Band on Thursdays and Sundays at sunset

· Visit the Los Muertos beach and pier

· Take a walk through the streets of Gringo Gulch

· Cross the suspension bridges of Cuale River Island

· See the Voladores de Papantla

· Get photographed with the Malecon sculptures

· Relax and read a book in Lázaro Cárdenas square

Bucerias, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

0

Located just north of Flamingos Nayarit is Bucerias Mexico. The first thing to enchant you will be the simple charms of this traditional Mexican town. You’ll fall in love with the cobblestone streets, brightly colored homes (with enormous wooden doors), and the overall feeling of tranquility.

Bucerías, one of Banderas Bay’s many coastal towns that has an authentic Mexican flavor, located in the Riviera Nayarit, just 20 minutes away from Puerto Vallarta.

Bucerías means “Place of the divers”, it’s an old fishing village named like that by the North American and Japanese divers who used to exploit pearl banks at the beginning of the 20th century. Bucerías stands out because of the beauty of its emerald colored sea beaches, its traditional beachfront square and its bright colored houses.

Bucerías offers the amenities of a small city as well, it has a wide variety of shops, restaurants, art galleries, excellent health services, beach clubs and bars just to name a few, this has increased the growing real estate offer for both rent and sale. This wasn’t always like this though, let me tell you…

Bucerias is one of the most visited Nayarit destinations among national and international tourists alike. Visitors come in search of fun and relaxation in this pristine destination, known for its fine sandy beaches, tranquil surf, and colorful hotels and resorts. Bucerias Mexico is perfect for young children who enjoy floating over the gentle waves on inflatable toys.

Bucerías was a community with a rustic Mexican appearance, basic services and infrastructure, so interest from real estate developers was almost null until two decades ago. It was the tranquility of this town that attracted thousands of Canadian and American tourists looking for a benign weather and relaxed place to live each winter.

Over the years, the fishing village has transformed into one of the most thriving towns in the region, real estate offer began to grow after the developers noticed the affinity of national and foreign visitors who were no longer happy just renting a property and wanted to settle or live there permanently.

The real estate boom, which included new and luxurious condos for sale in front of the beach or near the sea, with modern amenities and decoration. However, traditional architecture residences with a view of the bay, or houses and apartments with private subdivisions in a more accessible price range continued to be sold in the so called golden zone.

There are currently about ten new projects for rent and sale, some are already done, others are close and will be available in the next months. These are ideal for people looking for a second home, for retirement or real estate investment as well.

Best of all is that Bucerías has not lost its Mexican town charm, its relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere makes it perfect for buyers looking to reconnect with nature, enjoying the best sunsets in Banderas bay.

In fact, Bucerias Mexico is so attractive that many visitors, especially foreigners, decide to establish their second home here in this enchanting Mexican west coast town. Surround yourself with the delightful smells, tastes and sounds as you are immersed in the living tradition of this time-honored small town on Mexico’s Pacific shoreline.

Luxury Lifestyle Living Riviera Nayarit

The rocky beaches are starting to have their moment. The Riviera Nayarit, 200 miles of Pacific coastline stretching from the historic port of San Blas to where the Rio Ameca meets Banderas Bay at Puerto Vallarta, is coming into its own with a blossoming luxury travel cluster that is pioneering a different model of development.

At the bottom of the page you will find a list of the most prominent known names in Luxury Hotels and Accommodations.

Riviera Nayarit is so overlooked that people were, as one local put it, “giving away land.” The rocky beaches, viewed as less desirable than the sandy ones an hour to the south in the tourist mecca of Puerto Vallarta.

Riviera Nayarit resorts are also setting the standard for what’s to come along Mexico’s entire Pacific coast.

Riviera Nayarit is attracting some of the biggest names in hospitality — from Auberge to One & Only, Four Seasons, St-Regis, Conrad by Marriott and many others. There are picture-postcard Mexican towns and fishing villages, the Sierra Madre mountains cascading into the ocean, miles of verdant jungles to hike through, and easy access from the United States and Canada.

Another selling point: the weather is less sticky and humid than the Caribbean side of Mexico, while the Nayarit coast enjoys balmier and calmer waters than the often-unswimmable cold and rough ocean in Cabo and across much of the Baja California Pacific coast.

Many of the new hotels — particularly at the high end, where rooms start in the four figures — are moving away from the all-inclusive, sprawling hotel model to one that encourages low-density tourism.

Auberge’s cozy Susurros del Corazón property opened in the Punta de Mita area. The location: a plot of land nestled between the jungle and the beach with only 59 rooms and suites and 30 villas within view of the Islas Marietas, a group of small uninhabited islands just off the coast. Susurros has restaurants that feel like village cafes and a casual, friendly vibe difficult to achieve at a large-scale resort.

Nearby, Naviva, an adult-only property of free-standing, tented rooms by the Four Seasons, opened around the same time in late 2022 next to its sister property, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. Naviva, too, aims for seclusion and intimacy with a small footprint, just 15 keys clustered near scaled-down amenities in a natural setting that evokes both home hospitality and eco-tourism.

Four Seasons Resorts

The One & Only Mandarina about an hour to the north of Punta de Mita and is surrounded by the Sierra de Vallejo Mountains. The property has 105 free-standing villas and treehouses, spread throughout 80 acres landscaped with the help of a botany expert to preserve the local ecosystems. While slightly larger than the first two properties, Mandarina’s structures are set back from roads and each other and fully enveloped by jungle, creating a sense of tranquility and privacy.

These properties are only the vanguard: Over the next few years, a Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, Montage and Belmond are all slated to open their doors to guests in the Riviera Nayarit.

“We have a lot of growth in Nayarit, but we want to take care of the community,” Nayarit’s Minister of Tourism, Juan Enrique Suarez del Real Tostado, said in August. “Building a structure of six or seven floors is not sustainable …We are growing, but with control, rules and with a lot of training for what needs to be done to sell the destination.”

What sustainable, restrained and alluring development looks like varies across the region.

To the south of Riviera Nayarit, the up-and-coming Costalegre shoreline is following an even more sparse and limited development model. This coast, which stretches from Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco to Manzanillo in Colima, is dotted with untouched beaches, some of which are becoming exclusive travel destinations. The Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, straddles Jalisco and Colima. In line with the region’s ethos, only 2% of the 3,000-acre nature preserve the resort sits on can be developed.

The common thread between what’s going on along the whole coast, from Nayarit down into Colima, is that they are trying to have less impact while giving more to the community.

Back in Riviera Nayarit, Naviva makes its own energy, with solar panels providing 80% of the property’s electricity, and also generates fresh water from the air using solar collectors.

Instead of going the global cuisine route, Susurros del Corazón’s main restaurants, Casamilpa and La Boquita, serve almost exclusively dishes drawn from the region’s Indigenous Huichol cuisine sourced from local fishermen and the on-property garden.

One&Only Resorts

In addition to smaller footprints, with each forgoing a hotel lobby, both Susurros del Corazón and Naviva are pioneering a less formal model of luxury hospitality.

At Susurros, it’s not a butler who attends to guests but a cuate, loosely translated as a friend or buddy. At Naviva, guests are called by their first names. And while these hotels are premium luxury properties (rooms at Naviva, which is all-inclusive, start at $4,000 a night), they aren’t watering down the culture. This isn’t mariachi Mexico; what they are offering to guests goes far beyond margaritas and guacamole and chips (although there is certainly plenty of that, too).

4 Seasons Tamarindo, Costa Alegre, Jalisco

This new group of hotels wants to push the envelope in terms of what a five-star property in Mexico looks and feels like, in both big and subtle ways. For instance, at Susurros the default language to begin most interactions is Spanish. The culinary and beverage offerings encourage guests to expand their palates, for example, by going beyond tequila with a three-day immersive “Roots of Raicilla” ceremony (raicilla is a lesser-known agave-derived Mexican spirit) guided by the female founders of the brand La Reina.

Zarandeado Fish in Top 10 World Seafood Dishes https://promovisionpv.com/zarandeado-fish-in-top-10-world-seafood-dishes/

The Riviera Nayarit has a similar topography to Bali, with its verdant landscapes backdropped against the ocean. And, as it turns out, while sandy beaches are what drew people to Puerto Vallarta 40 years ago, rocky beaches are good for making consistent waves and, hence, surfing.

“When multiple hotels open, that’s when we see an area transition into a destination unto its own, rather than a place to stay for a couple of nights, bookings in Punta Mita, a gated development that houses the Four Seasons and the St. Regis, have increased by 30% in recent years.

That entire coastline is booming from an area farther north called Costa Conuva, which has luxury resorts opening in ’24-25, To the south, there is growing interest in Costalegre, where the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo spearheaded that development and now Six Senses Xala will be opening in the next two years.

Four Seasons Resorts

Xala, which is 90 minutes south from Puerto Vallarta on the Costalegre, is a 3,000-acre complex where the Six Senses luxury hotel is slated to open in 2026. It will also include restored farmlands, protected areas for sea turtles to nest and a community center for local children.

What is clear is that Riviera Nayarit and the Costalegre region to the south are not trying to be the next Cancun, Tulum or even their Pacific coast neighbor Los Cabos.

The region is very different from Los Cabos, effectively composed of small fishing villages, each with its own distinct personality. The towns range from vibey surfer chic to opulent luxury developments with nooks and crannies of secluded beaches, eco-conscious retreats, and to gritty local fishing villages still very much retaining their authentic charm.

“The beach towns of Bucerias, San Pancho and San Blas, remain genuine treasures, maintaining their laid-back charm reminiscent of Mexico’s yesteryear.

San Pancho is one of the beach communities that gives the area its charm.

Nature’s showcase

Much of Nayarit’s appeal lies in its nature. Hiking paths abound near Punta de Mita, including along wild rocky beaches and to Cerro del Mono (Monkey Mountain), a local scenic overlook. The Four Seasons Punta Mita, Naviva and St. Regis boast on-property trails that capture the extraordinary flora and fauna just steps from the lodging.

The jungle is lush and largely intact for long stretches — watch out for roaming coatis, a distant cousin of the raccoon with the bushy tail of a bobcat — and the coast has thus far avoided over development. The beach and coastal hilltop vistas at Mandarina are jaw dropping.

Perhaps the most remarkable animals are off the coast. Much of the new development in Riviera Nayarit sits on the Bay of Banderas, one of the largest tropical bays in the world. The bay, with its tropical current coursing from Costa Rica, is where whales migrate to give birth. In winter, the humpback whales and dolphins are so plentiful that they can typically be seen daily from the shore. Whale-watching is a must.

And the Islas Marietas marine preserve, which has strictly controlled and limited daily visitation, has world-class snorkeling and diving. Even without getting in the water, the islands are worth a visit on a boating day trip for the remarkable rock formations, grottoes and colonies of seabirds such as frigate birds and blue- and brown-footed boobies.

Rivieria Nayarit is unique in that it has upscale hotels, arguably among the best in Mexico, but still feels like a real place — at least for now.

Sayulita is the unofficial surfing capital of Riviera Nayarit.

That’s, in part, because of towns like Sayulita, the unofficial surfing capital of Riviera Nayarit and a small bohemian enclave of 5,000 with cobblestone streets. Sayulita has become an increasing popular destination, partly because it’s a “pueblo magico,” a government designation meaning “magic town” that is awarded to destinations for “their astonishing beauty, rich history, or extraordinary legends.”

Riviera Nayarit Airport in Tepic, is expected to receive its first international flight sometime this year. The Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport has wrapped up its extensive modernization project, signaling a major milestone for regional connectivity and tourism in the area. The overhaul, which included upgrades to the terminal building, a new control tower, runway expansion, and revamped infrastructure. The modernization efforts have transformed the airport into a world-class terminal, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and operational certifications to support international flights. Notably, successful test flights to destinations like Los Angeles, California, underscore its readiness for global operations.

Another airport to open to visitors fly into Puerto Vallarta. A new airport in Chalacatepec, located midway between Careyes and Punta Perula, is underway as the gateway to Costalegre.

This strategic approach seeks to balance tourism growth with the protection and preservation of cultural heritage and the well-being of local communities.

Puerto Vallarta will host the 13th edition of the AMPI 2024 International Tourism Summit to be held from June 26 to 28 at the Convention Center with the aim of strengthening the professionalization of real estate agents in the region.

Emilio Rojas Cobián, national president of the Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI), indicated that this is one of the most important events of the association.

“For us it is very important to formally start one of the three most important events that the association has in the promotion and projection of our tourist destinations that we have throughout the country.

And we are very happy that this symposium is taking place here in this area of Mexico, where we have four sections, which is Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Bahía, Riviera Nayarit and Compostela, where we have a large number of professional real estate colleagues, but in addition to everything, “which is consolidating itself as one of the centers of attraction for the most important beach product in the country, and that is why we want to hold this meeting to continue promoting and strengthening good business practices, which AMPI has always been known for promoting.”

He highlighted that this region of the country is consolidating, not only abroad, but is also beginning to see growth in the domestic market.

“We have seen that this destination continues to consolidate, not only abroad, but it is also beginning to have a growth in the national market, and we want to ask you to make available this structure that the association has today with a presence in the 32 states of the Republic, in 94 cities so that we can strengthen these business ties, these training periods and go hand in hand with the authorities to promote the investments that are taking place today in the tourism sector.”

For his part, Andrés Trujillo Aguilera, director of the event, mentioned that the meeting will offer its participants conferences, panels of experts on sector topics and, above all, the opportunity to generate business with national and foreign investors, however, he noted that one One of the most important points will be the training, updating and certification of real estate agents, so prior to the Summit, the 24th and 25th will be dedicated to this topic.

What is Cinco de Mayo Celebration Vallarta

0
Cinco de Mayo - May 5, federal holiday in Mexico. Fiesta banner template and poster design with flags, flowers, decorations

Cinco de Mayo – May 5th Celebration

May 5, the date of the commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, marks the victory of the Mexican army against the invasion of the second French Empire, which was the first time it successfully faced a foreign power since its independence. .

The United States also celebrates this commemoration because Mexican forces did not allow France to pass onto American soil. In 1861, the country was bankrupt due to half a century of almost constant conflict and war. It could not face the most urgent needs, so on July 17, 1861, President Benito Juárez decreed a two-year extension to pay foreign debt to European countries.

In October 1861, France, England and Spain signed the London Convention and agreed to send soldiers to Mexico to claim their rights as creditors for a debt that amounted to around 80 million pesos. Approximately 69 million were for the English, 9 million for the Spanish and 2 million for France. The latter refused to negotiate, through diplomatic channels, the terms and conditions under which the debt would be paid later, as the Spanish and British did in the preliminary Treaties of La Soledad. So Napoleon III, ruler of France, decided to invade Mexico to establish a monarchy favorable to France, supply himself with raw materials and in the future extend his imperialism to the United States. To that end, he was to dissolve the Mexican Government established by President Benito Juárez.

In April 1862 the French landed in the port of Veracruz, and began the military campaign towards the center of the Republic. After several attacks, on May 5, 1862, the battle took place on the Loreto hill, at the top of which was a chapel converted into a fort to defend the city of Puebla. The hero of the first battle of Puebla was General Ignacio Zaragoza in command of almost 2,000 soldiers and 2,700 peasants using machetes and spears called “chinacas” made of wood with a metal tip. The French used pistols, metal-tipped carbines, bayonets, and cannons. The report that General Zaragoza gave about the Battle of Puebla to President Benito Juárez was brief and significant.

Mexico’s first victory did not last long. A year later, thirty-five thousand French troops managed to defeat the Mexican army, and in this way France managed to take control of Mexico City and imposed the Austrian Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Carlota as emperor and empress of Mexico. . The emperor did not sustain his empire for long: France’s victory lasted only 4 years. In 1867, and due to the conflictive situation in Europe and pressure from the United States, Emperor Napoleon III ordered the withdrawal of military and economic support for Maximilian. At the same time, Mexican Republicans began to receive American financial and diplomatic support when the Civil War ended in that country, and the new empire began to lose its weak social base. Thus, during 1866 the Republicans were gaining important positions until the area of imperial influence was reduced to Puebla and Veracruz. On April 2, 1867, troops led by the Juarista Porfirio Díaz took the city of Puebla, thus militarily the empire was annihilated. Emperor Maximilian, by then besieged in Querétaro, was taken prisoner and shot in the city of Querétaro in “The Hill of the Bells.”

All About Puerto Vallarta https://promovisionpv.com/all-about-puerto-vallarta/

What is Cinco de Mayo and why is it celebrated in the United States?

Every May 5 in Mexico the victory in the 1862 battle of Puebla against France is commemorated. A century and a half later the festival has crossed the border and has become a holiday also in the United States.

What happened in the Battle of Puebla?

On May 5, 1862, the Army of the East, commanded by the young General Ignacio Zaragoza, defeated the invading troops of Napoleon III. The Battle of Puebla represents one of the most glorious episodes in our history.

PUERTO VALLARTA’S TOP ATTRACTIONS THINGS TO DO https://promovisionpv.com/puerto-vallartas-top-attractions-things-to-do/

On May 5, the Battle of Puebla is recreated in the place where it occurred: a colorful parade of floats and participants dressed in bright traditional costumes travels through the streets. The entire history of Mexico is shown.

In 1863, the first Cinco de Mayo celebration was held in the United States, where Mexicans living in California remembered the date. In the United States there was fear of the French since they supported the Confederacy in the Civil War that devastated the country. Therefore, the date was remembered.

May 5, a day that in the United States is often confused with Mexican Independence Day. In fact, the historical moment that gave rise to this festival occurred more than fifty years after the date on which the Mexican War of Independence began. So here’s what you need to know about May 5, including how it became a major economic driver for entrepreneurs and beverage companies across the United States.

What is the importance of May 5?

Not widely celebrated in Mexico, 5 de Mayo commemorates an unexpected victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The victory was exhilarating for the Mexican forces (and those who supported them from afar), but it was brief, because soon France occupied Mexico for a few years. Either way, May 5 continued to be celebrated in Puebla and, more interestingly, north of the border by some Americans of Mexican descent.

The country’s Independence Day is September 16 and is a national holiday. On that date in 1810, a priest named Miguel Hidalgo harangued Mexico to rise up against Spain, which gave rise to the War of Independence that ended in 1821.

In the early 1960s, many Mexican-American activists fighting in the civil rights movement in the United States used that day to demonstrate the pride they felt in their roots. Almost two decades later, in 1989, an importer of Mexican beers such as Modelo or Corona launched an advertising campaign related to that celebration. Initially the campaign was aimed at Latinos, but later expanded to a broader audience with advertisements on television and print media. This year, the Corona website has a clock with a “May Corona Countdown” during the hours leading up to May 5.

The commercialization of May 5 (and the criticism of cultural stereotypes) has been very successful. The market research agency Nielsen reported that in 2013 Americans bought more than $600 million worth of beer for May 5, more than for the Super Bowl or St. Patrick’s Day.

The evolution of this celebration from a sincere display of patriotism to a more corporate celebration has been, to say the least, irregular.

Many Latinos specifically avoid celebrating the day, in part due to a generational forgetfulness about the holiday’s origins during the Civil War.

Despite the controversies, many American cities and their Mexican communities will celebrate that day, including Portland, Oregon, Denver, Colorado, New York
