Nogalito Ecopark, Jungle Hike, Waterfalls. Review: by David Living Outdoors. Epic Day at Nogalito Ecopark — Jungle Hike, Waterfalls & Lunch in Paradise! Today my friends and I set off on one of the most refreshing and nature-filled adventures you can do near Puerto Vallarta — a hike through Nogalito Ecopark all the way up the river to the waterfalls!
Nogalito Ecopark, Jungle Hike, Waterfalls. Review: by David Living Outdoors. Epic Day at Nogalito Ecopark — Jungle Hike, Waterfalls & Lunch in Paradise!Travel Video Guide Review
From the moment we stepped into the jungle, the scenery was unreal. This trail is rated medium to hard, but honestly it’s more technical than difficult — expect to walk through jungle paths, wade through the river, cross it multiple times, and scramble over rocks as the sound of rushing water echoes all around you.
Nogalito EcoPark, Jungle Hike, Waterfalls
Every step is surrounded by untouched beauty: vibrant plants, flowers, palms, butterflies, fish, frogs, freshwater shrimp, and lizards. It truly feels like walking through a living postcard.
When we reached the waterfalls, we jumped in for a refreshing swim that instantly made the whole trek worth it. After cooling off, we made our way back to the Ecopark’s restaurant, where we enjoyed an incredible lunch and a couple of well-earned cold drinks. What I love about Nogalito is that you can take guided tours — but you don’t have to. We did this as a DIY adventure!
Nogalito EcoPark, Jungle Hike, Waterfalls
Our day began with a quick 10-peso bus ride from Old Town Puerto Vallarta. Just tell the driver “Nogalito” and they’ll drop you off at the right spot. From the highway, it’s an easy and charming 2 km walk through the village of El Nogalito. You’ll pass a couple of tempting tequileria… trust me, save those for after the hike! From the gates of the Ecopark it is approximately a 3 km hike to the falls
Nogalito EcoPark, Jungle Hike, Waterfalls
What Makes Nogalito Ecopark Special? Whether you’re into adrenaline or relaxation, this place has it all: • Zip-lining: 11 canopy lines soaring over the jungle • Hiking: Waterfalls, river crossings & lush jungle trails • Restaurant: Regional Mexican dishes • Tequila Tasting: Because it’s not Mexico without it 😉 two spots to try just outside the park The entire park is built around nature, sustainability, and community, and it feels authentic — not overly commercial. It’s close to Vallarta but you instantly feel worlds away.
Nogalito EcoPark, Jungle Hike, Waterfalls
Tips Before You Go • Bring bug spray • Wear good hiking shoes & lightweight clothes • Pack a swimsuit & towel. No changerooms at the falls so best to hike in your bathing suit • Guided tours available – check aviator, but DIY is absolutely doable

La Fina Cocine de Barrio Restaurant Puerto Vallarta Travel Guide Video Review
Restaurant Review: La Fina Cocina de Barrio. By David Living Outdoors. Last night we discovered one of Puerto Vallarta’s true hidden gems — La Fina Cocina de Barrio — and wow… this place absolutely lives up to the hype!
Tucked just across the River Cuale in the charming colonial neighborhood of Las Peñas, this family-run spot feels like stepping into a secret culinary escape only the locals whisper about. It’s an easy walk from Old Town, but once you arrive, you’re in a whole different world of flavors.
Restaurant Review: La Fina Cocina de Barrio. Travel Video Guide Review
La Fina serves modern Mexican cuisine with bold European and Asian twists, and the menu changes every single day. That means no two visits are ever the same — and trust me, you’ll want to come back.
Restaurant Review: La Fina Cocina de Barrio.
From melt-in-your-mouth short ribs, perfectly bright ceviche, and smoky grilled octopus, to their addictive duck flautas, every dish is crafted like a piece of art. Pair all that with a strong cocktail from their full bar, cozy outdoor patio vibes, and warm family-style hospitality… and you’ve got one of the most memorable dining experiences in Puerto Vallarta.

Las Animas Hiking Trail Experience. One of the BEST DIY Adventures in Puerto Vallarta!
If you are looking for an unforgettable experience in Puerto Vallarta without spending a ton of money, this is the adventure you need to add to your list!
Our day started in Old Town Puerto Vallarta, where we hopped on the local bus to Boca de Tomatlán a fun 30-minute ride that costs just 10 pesos. Riding along the coastline between the Sierra Madre mountains with locals, tourists, and expats is already half the adventure.
By David Living Outdoors
Las Animas Hiking Trail Travel Video Guide Review
Once you arrive in Boca, head down to the waterfront and the inner harbor… that is where the real journey begins! The hike to Las Animas is about 5.7 km and takes you through some of the most interesting and diverse scenery in the entire bay.
You will walk along a freshwater river, cross a suspension bridge, and wander through the charming town before following the trail to the coast. From there, you pass stunning beachfront homes before climbing up into the lush jungle—towering trees, palms, butterflies, and birds everywhere.
Soon you descend to Playa Colomitos, one of the smallest but most breathtaking beaches in the region. A perfect spot for a refreshing swim!
Las Animas Hiking Trail Colomitos BeachLas Animas Hiking Trail Experience. One of the BEST DIY Adventures in Puerto Vallarta!
After that, it is a gorgeous coastal trail with sweeping views all the way back toward Puerto Vallarta. You will cross a few beaches, pass beach clubs, and navigate some rocky coastline, try not to stop too long or you might never make it to Las Animas!
Las Animas Hiking Trail Las Animas Hiking Trail Experience. One of the BEST DIY Adventures in Puerto Vallarta!
As you reach the final stretch, you wander through the little town of Las Animas, home to a beautiful beach lined with great restaurants and beach clubs. We always choose a two-story spot so we can eat above the water and enjoy the views. From fresh seafood to amazing Mexican dishes, you can’t go wrong—my personal favourite is the grilled octopus.
After lunch? Beach time! Relax on a lounge chair, sip something cold, take a swim, and soak in the atmosphere.
Las Animas Hiking Trail
When you are ready to head back, just ask your beach club to call a water taxi usually 100 pesos per person back to Boca. Then hop on the bus to Puerto Vallarta and end your perfect day in paradise.
A full day of adventure, scenery, beaches, and great food… all for a fraction of the cost of a guided tour. Note however this is a medium to hard level of difficulty hike as there are a number of climbs and descents plus uneven terrain.

Rancho Las Pilas ATV Tour Review. Today’s adventure took us far beyond the city limits of Puerto Vallarta and deep into the lush Sierra Madre mountains that cradle the Bay of Banderas. We followed the winding Cuale River for about 10 km, bouncing along cobblestone and dirt roads, before climbing high into the jungle along a crystal-clear tributary called Vallejo.
Our destination: Rancho Las Pilas — a true mountain-jungle oasis. Think freshwater pools, cascading waterfalls, a pristine mountain stream, rocky terraces, and a cozy palapa where you can kick back with a cold drink. It’s the perfect escape from the city—whether you want to swim, relax, enjoy breakfast or lunch at the restaurant, or just listen to the water gurgle and splash while butterflies drift through the trees. Pure magic.
