The responses, as usual, got out of hand and the thread had to be closed due to nastiness on the part of some of the commenters. This is too bad because it’s an issue that should be addressed with finesse and logic.

As we have said before in these guest columns, guns are not legal in Mexico. There is only one gun store in all of Mexico in the capitol, Mexico City. To purchase ammunition, one must go to a separate location. Can one still buy a gun in other places in Mexico? Sure, on the Black Market… it’s so verboten just thinking about it could get you deported. Shootings in Puerto Vallarta are rare. You are much more likely to die from being run over by a bus or taxi for not paying attention when you cross the street.

Potentially being the victim of crime is what most people think about when considering a vacation in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Pepper spray was brought up in the conversation and there’s a debate as to whether it’s legal. It depends on who you talk to apparently, but the laws regarding its possession and use are shady and not concise. We recommend carrying a bottle of strong perfume. It’ll likely have the same affect.

What should you do to protect yourself in Puerto Vallarta? Use common sense. Do not flash wads of cash around and avoid carrying large amounts of money. Does not this apply to anywhere you travel? Regarding comments about wearing expensive jewelry; it’s far better to have it on your person than leave it lying around. If you bring it, wear it.

It is really okay to stay out late and party, go dancing in the clubs, and get late-night tacos on the street. Once you’re ready to go home, walk on the main streets and know where you’re going. Use taxis; there are plenty around, even in the middle of the night. Uber is in Puerto Vallarta now and rides are extremely reasonable. Get the app on your phone before you come. If possible, move around town with friends.

In the daytime, you are safer in Puerto Vallarta than just about anyplace we have ever been; but watch out for the aforementioned buses. If you’re alone, don’t drink so much it impairs your judgment. Keep a copy of your ID on you at all times and write down the address where you are staying. Make yourself familiar with your surroundings so you do not get lost. Be friendly. On Sunday, July 28, from 1:00 to 10:00 pm, visitors can try different recipes and styles of two of Puerto Vallarta’s traditional dishes at the 8th Festival del Ceviche y Aguachile to be held at Hidalgo Park.

Everyone is invited to come out and discover the many different styles of two of the city’s most traditional dishes, Ceviche & Aguachile, at very reasonable prices.

A traditional Mexican dish, Ceviche is a concoction of fresh fish or shrimp “cooked” (marinated) in lime juice with tomatoes, onions and green chilies. But the Puerto Vallarta recipe is a little different than what you’ll typically find in other regions. In the Banderas Bay area, carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and other ingredients are often added to the mix.

The second traditional dish that participating restaurants will be offering is Aguachile. Similar to Ceviche, the most classic version is made with fresh raw shrimp, cucumber, red onion, lime juice, and chiles (typically serranos or jalapeños) that have been pulverized with some water – hence the name. It is usually served with avocado and tostadas, along with beer and tequila.

During the festival, both specialties will be served on tostadas, and you can sample 30 different varieties of Ceviche and Aguachile prepared by local restaurants.

To complement the fabulous food, there will also be refreshing drinks typical of the region, specialty cocktails prepared with raicilla, ice-cold local craft beers, and delicious helados and paletas (ice creams and popsicles) available for purchase.

El Golf reúne a grandes empresarios en Puerto Vallarta

El destino fue la sede del 3er. Torneo de Golf INDEX Nacional, evento de networking en cuyo marco se generan importantes negociaciones.

El pasado viernes 19 de julio, el Consejo Nacional de la Industria Manufacturera de Exportación (INDEX) llevó a cabo su tercer torneo anual en el campo diseñado por Jack Nicklaus del complejo de golf Vista Vallarta; esto en el marco de la Reunión de Verano de su Consejo Directivo, en la cual participaron los más altos ejecutivos de las empresas que forman parte de dicha organización.

INDEX es la organización líder del sector manufacturero de exportación a nivel nacional desde hace 55 años. Su Consejo Nacional representa -a través de 18 asociaciones ubicadas en todo el país- a más de 1,300 empresas globales, que en conjunto generan más de 3 millones de empleos directos, 7.5 millones de empleos indirectos y concentran casi el 60% de las exportaciones totales de México.

En la pasada edición de Gala Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit, el Fideicomiso de Turismo de Puerto Vallarta extendió una invitación a los miembros del consejo a realizar su reunión anual y torneo de golf en este destino a través del organizador de eventos VIP Experiences, llevándolos a conocer el complejo golfístico Vista Vallarta, el cual conquistó a los ejecutivos que acudieron.

Vista Vallarta ofrece golf en un impresionante entorno natural con espectaculares vistas a la montaña y el mar de Puerto Vallarta. Sus dos campos de golf de 18 hoyos fueron diseñados por Jack Nicklaus y Tom Weiskopf, respectivamente, y ofrecen un juego tan desafiante como emocionante.

El día previo al torneo, los 120 jugadores del torneo y sus acompañantes disfrutaron de un cóctel de bienvenida en el hotel sede, Velas Vallarta, donde el destino los agasajó con presentaciones de ballet folclórico y mariachi para compartirles lo más emblemático de la cultura del Estado de Jalisco.

Durante el torneo, se les ofrecieron muestras de la gastronomía y una degustación de mixología de la región. En agradecimiento al apoyo brindado, INDEX invitó a dos equipos de jugadores locales, entre ellos hoteleros y tour operadores, generando un espacio para hacer relaciones públicas y cerrar negocios.

El Fideicomiso de Turismo de Puerto Vallarta, expresó: “Seguimos impulsando el segmento de turismo de reuniones como uno de los pilares para la atracción de visitantes al destino. Tras el inicio oficial de las vacaciones de verano, se percibe un aumento en el número de visitantes que están llegando a la ciudad vía terrestre.

Además de la creciente popularidad del puerto jalisciense, la nueva carretera Guadalajara – Puerto Vallarta ha detonado un mayor flujo de turismo desde la capital del Estado y regiones aledañas hacia su principal destino de playa.

La nueva autopista permite realizar el recorrido entre ambas ciudades en tan solo 3 horas aproximadamente, atrayendo más turismo no sólo de Guadalajara, sino también de la región del Bajío, Michoacán, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí y el centro del país, puntos desde donde hay que transitar esa ruta para llegar a Puerto Vallarta.

Esta conexión ha impulsado también el turismo de circuito en el Estado de Jalisco, ya que la considerable reducción en los tiempos de traslado permite visitar distintos puntos de la entidad en un solo recorrido.

El Fideicomiso de Turismo de Puerto Vallarta, señaló: “Con esta mejora en nuestra conectividad terrestre, se está volviendo cada vez más popular la opción de admirar la arquitectura colonial de Guadalajara, conocer los procesos de fabricación del tequila en una destilería de Tequila, Jalisco y culminar la travesía en nuestras bellas costas, todo en un mismo viaje”.

Además de la nueva autopista, el Estado de Jalisco cuenta con dos carreteras libres que conectan a Guadalajara y Puerto Vallarta, una federal y otra estatal; esta última a través de la Sierra Madre Occidental, obsequiando espectaculares vistas panorámicas a lo largo del trayecto. Con esta excelente conectividad carretera ahora mejorada, se espera un incremento de visitantes durante esta temporada de verano y las subsecuentes.

New highway boosts tourism in Puerto Vallarta

After the official start of the summer holidays, there is an increase in the number of visitors arriving to the city by land.

In addition to the growing popularity of the Jalisco port, the new Guadalajara – Puerto Vallarta highway has triggered a greater flow of tourism from the state capital and surrounding regions to its main beach destination.

The new highway allows you to travel between both cities in just approximately 3 hours, attracting more tourism not only from Guadalajara, but also from the Bajío region, Michoacán, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí and the center of the country, points from where there are You have to travel that route to get to Puerto Vallarta.
