Transportation Options when arriving to the Puerto Vallarta

Transportation Options when arriving to the Puerto Vallarta Mexico Airport, several transportation options are available to reach Centro, hotels, or surrounding areas. Many hotels provide free shuttle services, while airport taxis offer competitive pricing. To minimize expenses, travelers can exit the airport and utilize buses, Uber, or budget-friendly taxis, all within a brief walk. Hotel shuttles can be found immediately outside the arrivals area exit. Often times there are hotel representatives in the arrivals area waiting for you but you need to make arrangements in advance. A taxi stand can be found in the arrivals area.

We recommend this as prices are posted and fair. Just go to the window , pay for your ride and then exit the terminal where you can find your taxi. If you wish to use a more cost effective option then consider Uber or the city bus. The city bus arrives generally every 10 minutes and costs only 10 pesos. You just need to be be mindful that the buses can be crowded and are not overly amenable to large luggage. Uber transport can be obtained by crossing over the highway via an elevated walkway. It takes about ten minutes to reach the pick up spot but it is an easy walk as ramps (not stairs) are used.

To be a good traveler, embrace curiosity and respect for the local culture by being open-minded, learning basic local phrases, and asking questions to understand the area and its people. Be a responsible traveler by not littering, dressing appropriately, and leaving places cleaner than you found them, while also prioritizing your well-being with preparation like travel insurance and packing light.

Travel Tips Be a Good Traveler
Travel Tips Be a Good Traveler

Respect and engage with local culture

  • Be open-minded: Stay curious, humble, and open to different experiences and perspectives. Avoid judgment and embrace differences.
  • Talk to locals: Ask questions to learn about their home. Engage in conversations with taxi drivers, bartenders, and others for recommendations and insights.
  • Learn the language: Learn a few basic phrases in the local language, such as “hello” and “thank you,” as this is often appreciated.
  • Follow customs: Research and follow local customs, traditions, and etiquette, which can include knowing whether to tip or what is appropriate to wear.
  • Be respectful: Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Avoid making loud noises, dropping trash, or damaging property and monuments.

Be a prepared and responsible traveler

  • Do your research: Learn about the destination’s history, culture, religion, and social norms before you go to be better prepared.
  • Pack light: Pack only what you need to make your travel smoother and more comfortable.
  • Get travel insurance: Purchase travel insurance to protect yourself against unforeseen events.
  • Plan, but be flexible: Have an itinerary, but also be open to changing plans. Don’t just follow a tourist checklist.
  • Be conscious of your impact: Leave no trace by not littering and respecting signs and designated areas. Leave a place in better condition than you found it.
  • Respect wildlife: Observe animals from a distance and do not disturb them, especially in their natural habitats.

Enhance your experience

  • Embrace the local way: Try local food and use local transportation to get around.
  • Go beyond the tourist trail: Seek out experiences off the beaten path to create more lasting memories.
  • Take care of those who help you: Show gratitude, perhaps by leaving a small gift for a host or tipping for services, but only if it’s customary.
  • Be patient: Traveling can involve delays and slow-moving crowds. Pack your patience to handle these situations gracefully.

If all tourists followed these few tips, the world would be a much better place, don’t you think?

Puerto Vallarta Iguanas

0

Puerto Vallarta Iguanas: You can see iguanas all over the city of Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Typically you will find them in trees or on the ground near water.

From collaborator David Living Outdoor

Puerto Vallarta Iguanas
Puerto Vallarta Iguanas

Today we were at the Los Peinas Marina to catch a fishing charter and found these amazing creatures near the port customs office. We could get quite close to them before they even considered moving out of the way. One in fact did not get out of the way and we had to step over him. Great to see these wonderful animals up close.

Iguanas are an icon of Puerto Vallarta and can be seen in many natural and urban areas, such as the El Salado Estuary or near the Cuale River Bridge. They are herbivorous reptiles that enjoy basking in the sun on trees and rocks, and although they are generally shy, they should be observed from a distance. There are two common species: the green iguana, which can be large and vibrantly colored, and the black iguana, which is smaller and darker in color.

Where to see iguanas in Puerto Vallarta
El Salado Estuary: A protected ecological reserve where it is common to see them in the trees and mangroves.
Cuale River Island: The area around the bridge and on the river islands is a common place to spot them.
University Center of the Coast (CUC): Hundreds of iguanas have been seen in the area near the campus lake.
Golf courses: Some courses, such as Marina Vallarta, are home to many iguanas that feed near the buildings. Los Peines Pier: A more recent location where iguanas have been observed on the pier.

Day Of The Dead 2025 in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta Parade Day of the Dead 2025
Puerto Vallarta Parade Day of the Dead 2025

Day Of The Dead 2025 in Puerto Vallarta in Pictures. Traditions connected with the holiday include honoring the deceased using calaveras and marigold flowers known as cempazúchitl, building home altars called ofrendas with the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased.

Day of The Dead 2025

Day Of The Dead 2025 in Puerto Vallarta in pictures

The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos or Día de los Muertos is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. It is widely observed in Mexico, where it largely developed, and is also observed in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage.

Although related to the simultaneous Christian remembrances for Hallow tide, it has a much less solemn tone and is portrayed as a holiday of joyful celebration rather than mourning. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and to remember friends and family members who have died. These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember funny events and anecdotes about the departed.

Day Of The Dead 2025 in Puerto Vallarta

The celebration is not solely focused on the dead, as it is also common to give gifts to friends such as candy sugar skulls, to share traditional pan de muerto with family and friends, and to write light-hearted and often irreverent verses in the form of mock epitaphs dedicated to living friends and acquaintances, a literary form known as calaveras literarias.

Altars (ofrendas)

During Día de Muertos, the tradition is to build private altars (“ofrendas”) containing the favorite foods and beverages, as well as photos and memorabilia, of the departed. The intent is to encourage visits by the souls, so the souls will hear the prayers and the words of the living directed to them. These altars are often placed at home or in public spaces such as schools and libraries, but it is also common for people to go to cemeteries to place these altars next to the tombs of the departed. Mexican marigold is the traditional flower used to honor the dead.

Puerto Vallarta Parade Day of the Dead 2025
Day Of The Dead 2025 in Puerto Vallarta

Schedule for November 1 and 2

Plans for the day are made throughout the year, including gathering the goods to be offered to the dead. During the three-day period families usually clean and decorate graves; most visit the cemeteries where their loved ones are buried and decorate their graves with ofrendas (altars), which often include orange Mexican marigolds (Tagetes erecta) called cempasúchil (originally named cempōhualxōchitl, Nāhuatl for ‘twenty flowers’). In modern Mexico the marigold is sometimes called Flor de Muerto (‘Flower of Dead’). These flowers are thought to attract souls of the dead to the offerings. It is also believed the bright petals with a strong scent can guide the souls from cemeteries to their family homes.

Day Of The Dead 2025 in Puerto Vallarta

Calaveras

A common symbol of the holiday is the skull (in Spanish calavera), which celebrants represent in masks, called calacas (colloquial term for skeleton), and foods such as chocolate or sugar skulls, which are inscribed with the name of the recipient on the forehead. Sugar skulls can be given as gifts to both the living and the dead. Other holiday foods include pan de muerto, a sweet egg bread made in various shapes from plain rounds to skulls, often decorated with white frosting to look like twisted bones.

On November 1, at the Arcos del Malecón amphitheater, there will be more cultural activities.

On November 2, there will be a parade with Charros and their horses dressed for the occasion.

The celebration of the Day of the Dead has recently gained more interest in our country in general and in Puerto Vallarta in particular.

From the first day of activities there will be altars in the external corridors of the Municipal Palace, catrinas in palm trees and large skulls and decorations along the Malecón.

It is known that many families take their children to the Malecón to ask for sweets

The ceremony, held at Marival Emotions Resort & Suites Riviera Nayarit by Mercure, brought together chefs, traditional cooks, tour operators, artisans, and representatives from different levels of government, all recognizing the value of sustainable tourism and the preservation of cultural heritage.
