Bucerías Oyster Festival Every Easter weekend, the beach in front of downtown Bucerías transforms into a lively celebration of gratitude and seafood. The annual Bucerías Oyster Festival marks the end of the oyster harvesting season, coinciding with the Easter holiday period. Divers and fishermen join forces to thank visitors for their support, offering free food, live music from local bands, contests, and even a beauty pageant. It is a feast for the senses and a heartwarming display of community appreciation.

The name “Bucerías” derives from the Spanish word “buzo,” meaning “diver,” reflecting the town’s historical connection to oyster diving. Every Easter weekend, the annual Bucerías Oyster Festival takes place on the beach across from the town center, next to the mouth of the Arroyo del Indio River. This is a free event open to the general public to celebrate with local oyster farmers the end of the oyster harvesting season, which coincides with the close of the Easter and Holy Week holiday period.

Free music, waves, ceviche, and more for all attendees of this great festival held annually during Holy Week by the divers of Bucerías, Nayarit.

On April 19th and 20th (Saturday and Sunday), we can enjoy a great party on Bucerías beach, with live music, a beauty pageant, and contests among attendees. Only on Sunday, April 20th, we can enjoy free oysters and ceviche.

Although seafood cocktails, clams, aguachiles, and more are available for sale during the festival, if you don’t want to wait in line.

At the mouth of the Arroyo del Indio in Bucerías Beach, the party officially begins at 10:00 am (but continues until 11:00 am) and ends until 7:00 pm. 8,000 to 10,000 oysters.

Take an ATM bus to Punta Mita or a Compostela to Sayulita-Guayabitos until you get to the Bucerias underpass/river bed. Get there early, there will be a long line-up.
