Also known as Wixaricas —Children of the Sun— the Huicholes are truly fascinating people, each one making a moral promise to visit the five sacred places of their faith in their lifetimes, one of which is the Tatei Amara —White Rock—, found in the historic port of San Blas.

To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? Vacation

0

To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!? advantages? Inconvenient?

I know! I know! It is not for every one. As a permanent resident and have no need for one, I have interviewed a number of people who like it and even have more then on!? As you arrive, you get immediately offered a presentation at the airport, at your hotel that has time share, and or sales stands, restaurants, tour operators, all over the place.

To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?
To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?

Advantages of a Timeshare

Guaranteed Vacation Time
You lock in vacation accommodations each year, which can help you prioritize time off.
Cost Predictability
Once purchased, annual costs are typically limited to maintenance fees, which can be more affordable than booking premium resort stays each year.
Quality of Accommodations
Timeshares are often in well-maintained upper level resorts, with amenities like pools, kitchens, and family-sized suites.

Exchange Networks
Programs like RCI or Interval International let you trade your location/week for other destinations around the world.
No Property Maintenance
You get the vacation property experience without needing to deal with repairs, cleaning, or upgrades.

To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?
To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?

Inconveniences / Downsides

High Initial Cost
Timeshares can cost $10,000–$50,000+ upfront, not including annual maintenance fees (which often rise over time).
Limited Flexibility
Some timeshares are locked into a specific week or season. Even “points-based” systems can have limited availability at popular times.
Difficult to Sell
The resale market is weak — many people struggle to sell or even give away their timeshare.
Ongoing Maintenance Fees
These can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars each year, even if you do not use the property.

Pressure Sales Tactics
Timeshare presentations can be aggressive, pushing people to sign on the spot without full understanding.

Usage Restrictions
Booking windows, blackout dates, and required advanced planning can make spontaneous travel harder.

To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?
To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?

Should You Get One?

Consider a timeshare if:

You vacation every year without fail.
You prefer going to the same destination or enjoy structured travel.
You are okay with upfront costs and ongoing fees.
You understand the contract and do not expect to sell it for a profit.

Avoid a timeshare if:

You value flexibility and spontaneous travel.
You do not travel every year.
You can not commit long-term or are not sure about your future vacation habits.
You are debt-averse or uncomfortable with hidden fees.

You can consult the association of tourist developers, exchange companies, specialized providers, and local associations: https://amdetur.org.mx/en/amdetur-english/

To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?
To Time Share? or Not To Time Share? That is the questions!?

If you default on a loan you took out to purchase a timeshare, the lender will try to collect their money, and your credit report will likely be affected. “The lender doesn’t care if you bought a timeshare,”

To do this, you must send a cancellation letter to the company that manages the timeshare contract, following all legal requirements. The cancellation letter must comply with several laws to be valid, so it’s best to let a real estate attorney, like me, draft it for you.

The iconic Mirador de la Cruz Renovation

0

The iconic Mirador de la Cruz, one of Puerto Vallarta’s most iconic landmarks, will undergo a major renovation project with an investment of over 18 million pesos. This project, funded by the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust and the Government of Jalisco, seeks to strengthen the tourism infrastructure and improve the visitor experience. The initiative, which was announced by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía this morning, will not only revitalize a historic space, but also prepare it for an even greater transformation.

The iconic Mirador de la Cruz Renovation

The Mirador de la Cruz sits atop Cerro de la Cruz, a place that has long been a landmark for locals and visitors. Before the construction of a formal lookout point, the site was simply a cross and a space for contemplation, known for its panoramic views of Banderas Bay, the historic center, and the surrounding majestic mountains.

Over the years, it has become a popular challenge for athletes and a pilgrimage site for those seeking a spectacular view of the city. However, it is constantly abandoned, suffering from vandalism and deterioration.

The iconic Mirador de la Cruz Renovation

The comprehensive rehabilitation works to be carried out will not only beautify the area but also lay the groundwork for large-scale projects. These improvements are expected to facilitate the construction of a new cable car that will descend to the Malecón, offering a quick and scenic access route. This attraction, the mayor revealed, is currently in the study phase for its implementation.

In addition, the existing funicular, a vertical means of transportation that helps people ascend and descend the steep slope, will be repaired, improving its functionality and accessibility.

With this investment and the vision for future projects, Puerto Vallarta seeks to consolidate Mirador de la Cruz as a world-class destination, attracting more national and international visitors and boosting the region’s tourism dynamic.

In addition, the mayor said that the project for a giant, permanent Ferris wheel remains in place, and plans will be made to install it. It could be in the downtown area, to complement the Malecón, which will also be renovated, and the cable car.

Pacific – Atlantic Oceans a rail, port, system

0

The Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) is an infrastructure and logistics platform project in southern Mexico that connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans through a rail, port, and highway system. Its objective is to boost the economic development of the south of the country by creating industrial zones and promoting global trade, linking the ports of Salina Cruz (Oaxaca) and Coatzacoalcos (Veracruz). The project is under the control of the Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR) and seeks to be an alternative to the Panama Canal for the transportation of goods and passengers.

Components and Operation

Railway and Port Infrastructure:
The CIIT includes the rehabilitation of railways, the modernization of the ports of Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos, and the construction of complementary infrastructure.

Development Hubs for Well-being:
Industrial zones are established at strategic points along the corridor to attract investment and generate employment opportunities in sectors such as automotive, pharmaceutical, and agro industrial.

Connections to other projects:
The corridor is planned to connect with projects such as the Maya Train in Palenque and Puerto Chiapas to form a broader transportation network in southeastern Mexico.

Objectives and Impact
Economic Development of Southern Mexico:
The project seeks to boost the economy of the country’s south-southeast region, which has historically lagged behind.

Facilitation of Global Trade:
By offering a shorter route between the two oceans, the corridor seeks to become a strategic gateway for international trade.

Job Creation:
The creation of industrial zones and improved connectivity have the potential to generate thousands of jobs for the local population.

Key Aspects
Military Control:
Management of the project was delegated to the Ministry of the Navy, which has raised concerns about the militarization of the region and potential social tensions.

Environmental Impact:
The project recognizes the risk of negatively impacting the biodiversity of the region, which is considered one of the richest in the country.

0

Asipona and TURIIMAR are working together to ensure Puerto Vallarta has this route.

To continue advancing the work to open the Puerto Vallarta-Islas Marías maritime route, authorities from the National Port System Administration (Asipona) of this city and executives from the Islas Marías Comprehensive Tourism Company (TURIIMAR) held a meeting at the port facilities.

Asipona reported that the tourism company’s delegation toured the facilities to verify that Puerto Vallarta meets the conditions to offer quality and safe service for the planned route.

The port authority also announced that various working meetings and operational practices have been held to make the establishment of this route a reality, and they hope to soon announce the characteristics of the new tourist offering.

It is worth noting that last June, the Federal Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) and TURIIMAR signed a collaboration agreement for the non-exclusive use of the Mexico brand, to position the Marías Islands as a sustainable tourist destination of high cultural value. The agreement seeks to promote responsible, inclusive, and transformative tourism, aligned with the Mexico Plan 2025-2030.

Puerto Vallarta to have a route to the Islas Marías; access to the new tourist destination in a former prison.
Studies are advancing to inaugurate the maritime route from Puerto Vallarta to the legendary Islas Marías, currently accessible only from San Blas and Mazatlán.

Located approximately 130 km from the Mexican mainland, María Madre covers approximately 145 km² and is part of a four-island nature reserve currently managed by the Mexican Navy.

Puerto Vallarta is advancing the project and studies to become the third destination with a direct route to the new tourist development of the Islas Marías, currently accessible only from San Blas, Nayarit, and Mazatlán, Sinaloa.

Various working meetings and operational practices have been held to make the establishment of a maritime route connecting Puerto Vallarta with the Marías Islands a reality. The offerings, promotions, and features of this new tourist destination are expected to be announced soon.

It is worth remembering that, in response to the problems of overcrowding in Mexico’s prisons, the transfer of prisoners to the Islas Marías was resumed in April 2005, with the goal of bringing the population (inmates and staff) to approximately 3,000.

The archipelago is currently a protected area under the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. In 2010, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO due to its endemic flora and fauna, which form a very fragile ecosystem with coral reefs, colorful mollusks, more than 21 species of sharks, and 10 varieties of rays. Therefore, the island is not intended for mass visitors, but rather for nature lovers and academic tourism.

The new re-population of the federal territory is being carried out under the concept of ecological protection and conservation of the natural environment. The only inhabited island remains Isla María Madre.

On December 16, 2022, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the Islas Marías Tourist Center on María Madre Island, which until now can only be visited on weekends and by sea from Mazatlán and San Blas. The opening of a route from Puerto Vallarta would be a new alternative to access this unique destination.

Islas Marías: the “Mexican Alcatraz” that was transformed into… Islands from the movies

History
The Islas Marías were closed as a prison complex in March 2019 by presidential decree. The Mexican government made this decision due to high maintenance costs, the difficulties in conducting scientific research on the site, and the damage caused by Hurricane Willa in 2018. Furthermore, the prison model, in place since 1905, was deemed dysfunctional and violated the human rights of inmates and their families. The complex was transformed into a cultural center and ecological reserve.

Marina Vallarta Reinaugurate Its 18 Greens

Marina Vallarta Holds Golf Tournament to Reinaugurate Its 18 Greens August 16, 2025, 4:18 PM Courtesy of Javier Frías/Quadratín Jalisco PUERTO VALLARTA, Jal., August 15, 2025.- With a lightning tournament, the Marina Vallarta golf course, one of the most emblematic in the region, completed the total renovation of its 18 greens.

Homero Hernández, regional director for the Puerto Vallarta golf courses of the Invired group, highlighted that this reinvestment responds to the need to modernize a space with 36 years of history.

“With this renovation, Marina Vallarta returns to a competitive level. We are the second oldest course in the Bay and we needed a fundamental transformation to remain among the best,” he noted. The work included the removal of old grass, excavation and filling with sand, as well as modifying the drainage. Subsequently, Paspalum Platinum grass was planted, a hybrid variety that tolerates both fresh and salt water, making it ideal for Puerto Vallarta’s environmental conditions.

“This grass not only maintains an impressive green, but also improves the golfer’s experience because it offers greater firmness and more precise ball rolling,” explained Hernández.

The renovation was presented at a special event attended by 50 golfers from the golf and hospitality industries, who were able to experience the course’s new conditions firsthand.

The executive announced that the company will continue investing in Marina Vallarta, focused on renovating the irrigation and drainage system, in order to maintain the course’s competitiveness and relevance within the community. “We want to continue adding value to the Marina Vallarta golf course and ensure it remains a sporting and tourism landmark in the Bay Area,” concluded Hernández.

Jalisco Plan and World-Class Tourism Products

0

Jalisco Six-Year Plan and World-Class Tourism Products

At an event held in the nation’s capital, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, Michel Fridman, presented a series of announcements that mark a new chapter in the state’s tourism projection. This includes a six-year plan that charts the course to 2030 and a series of innovative tourism products that seek to position the state as an international benchmark.

Jalisco World-Class Events

After the Mariachi Gathering, the Brussels World Spirits Competition will begin, a competition in which Jalisco will compete with spirits from around the world before international judges, seeking to showcase the quality and diversity of its production.

The secretary emphasized that these events not only attract visitors, but are also platforms for disseminating the best of the state’s gastronomy, culture, and tourism offerings.

Presentation of the Six-Year Tourism Plan.

One of the most anticipated moments will be on September 7, when the Jalisco Six-Year Tourism Plan will be presented at the Mariachi Gala at the Degollado Theater. This document is the result of four consultation forums held in different regions of the state, with the participation of more than 500 members of the sector and figures such as Enrique de la Madrid and Gary Grimmer.

The plan establishes the guidelines for the state’s tourism development through 2030, with axes focused on product diversification, infrastructure strengthening, and international outreach.

New Tourism Products

Fridman revealed that Jalisco is working on five tourism products linked to wine and spirits, with the goal of diversifying its offerings and generating high-value experiences:

Tequila Valley

Evolution of the current Tequila Route, in partnership with the tequila industry, to become a world-class region in the style of Napa Valley or Valle de Guadalupe, integrating gastronomy and premium experiences into the agave landscape.

Los Altos Tequila Route

A circuit that will highlight the high-quality tequila produced in the Los Altos region, with tequila houses focused not only on production but also on immersive tourist experiences.

Raicilla Route

Expanded and improved, it covers 13 municipalities and connects to Mascota, concluding in Puerto Vallarta, with cultural and gastronomic activities.

Los Altos Wine Route

La Route des Vins Jalisc
La Route des Vins Jalisc

New product focused on the emerging wine industry in this area, with tastings, tours, and wine tourism experiences.
Ribera de Chapala Wine Route

It will connect the Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Ajijic with vineyards facing Mexico’s largest lake, combining lake landscapes and forested mountains. This product will be presented in 2027 during the Brussels National Wine Competition, which will be held in Jalisco.

Infrastructure and Event Attraction

Fridman noted that Jalisco’s infrastructure is one of its greatest attractions for international events. In the first six months of the current administration, more than 20 new air routes have been inaugurated at its two airports, both among the five best connected in the country.

Furthermore, the hotel offering, which places Jalisco second in the nation, will continue to grow with the construction of 39 new hotels in the next two years, including luxury developments such as Chablé in Costa Alegre and Thompson Puerto Vallarta.

Jalisco will also host other important events, such as the Ariel Awards in Puerto Vallarta, reaffirming its role as host of international conferences, fairs, and competitions.

Jalisco: Diversity and the Essence of Mexico

The official emphasized that Jalisco offers a complete representation of Mexican diversity: Magical Towns, haciendas, beaches, cliffs, forests, and lakes, all with the hospitality and cultural essence that led it to coin the slogan “Jalisco is Mexico.”

Fridman concluded by inviting media and opinion leaders to spread this positive news:

“If Jalisco is Mexico and we can broadcast good news, we are sure that we will contribute to a better reputation for our country. And that fills us with pride.”

Jalisco in World Spirits Competition Brussels

0

Jalisco promotes excellence in spirits with the Brussels World Competition, the most important of its kind in the world.

https://concoursmondial.com/es

62 beverage categories will be analyzed and 2,550 spirits from 70 countries will be evaluated, 20 percent of which are Mexican products.

Holding the competition in Jalisco represents a historic opportunity to establish the state as a global leader in the spirits industry.

Jalisco will become the epicenter for the evaluation and recognition of spirits, hosting the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world: the 27th edition of the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles – A global benchmark for wine competitions

Jalisco will be the capital of the Brussels 2025 World Spirits Competition

In this edition, from September 7 to 12, 2,550 spirits from 70 countries will be evaluated, 20 percent of which are Mexican products.

A total of 150 judges, of 42 nationalities, will analyze 62 beverage categories under a rigorous and internationally recognized evaluation system.

The competition will consolidate the international positioning of its spirits and strengthen the international promotion of its destinations; it has previously hosted events in Taiwan, Brazil, China, Mexico, Chile, Bulgaria, Belgium, and others.

Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, emphasized that one of the main benefits of hosting this competition lies in the broad media impact it generates, projecting Jalisco as a tourist destination and an international benchmark in the spirits sector.

“If we are already world-famous for iconic elements like mariachi and tequila, what better way to continue making waves and say that raicilla and wine are also made here, and that we also have some of the best cuisine in the entire country,” she said.

“We should immediately take advantage of this great media exposure so that many countries around the world will look at what’s happening in Jalisco and see us as a great tourist destination that continues to reinvent itself despite already being a world leader in tourism,” the Secretary added.

The competition activities will take place in three emblematic destinations in the state: Guadalajara, Tequila, and Puerto Vallarta.

The Riu Plaza Guadalajara Hotel will be the main venue, where the tasting and evaluation sessions will take place.

A team of experts has been available 24 hours a day to ensure that participants can dedicate time to exchange opinions and strengthen ties outside of the technical field.

Fridman Hirsch also confirmed that two new tequila routes will be presented during the competition, and the raicilla route will be strengthened.

“In a couple of years, we will surely be ready to present two wine routes here in the state of Jalisco to, once again, decision-makers, critics, the media, and many people who can help us promote this great wealth and diversity that Jalisco has,” he emphasized.

The competition will bring together highly recognized industry experts, producers, importers, and judges, whose participation strengthens the brands’ competitiveness and fosters collaboration among industry specialists.

“The 27th edition of the World Spirits Competition is the most important international spirits competition, with the largest number of samples worldwide. It will be held across three regions: Guadalajara, which will be the introduction for the judges; of course, the Magical Town of Tequila; and after following the raicilla route, we will conclude in Puerto Vallarta,” said Carlos Borboa, Latin American Director of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

The competition results will be published on September 29th through the official website spiritsselection.com.

Borboa noted that this year, the judges will become international spokespersons for what Mexico, Jalisco, tequila, and raicilla represent; and added that, after 27 years of efforts to attract opinion leaders from around the world, today they celebrate that none of them resisted the invitation.

Jalisco is ready for this commitment, backed by its global leadership in spirits production. It is known for its unparalleled tradition in tequila production and the consolidation of raicilla, and both beverages will participate in this international competition.

Highlights of the program include a masterclass on tequila and raicilla, taught by Jaime Villalobos Sauza of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT).

There will be food and tequila tastings at Campo Azul, themed dinners organized by Tequila Makers of Los Altos Jalisco, Tequila Sauza, and Tequila Cuervo, and a raicilla experience at Taberna Tres Gallos.

As part of the cultural agenda, the judges will attend the International Mariachi and Charrería Gathering gala, which will take place on Sunday, September 7, at the iconic Degollado Theater.

This gala is part of the 32nd edition of the festival, which will be held from August 27 to September 7, 2025, in Guadalajara and various municipalities in Jalisco, with a program of more than 170 events.

Carlos Mateos, General Director of the International Mariachi and Charrería Gathering, emphasized that the private gala at the iconic Degollado Theater is dedicated to the special guests and judges of the competition.

He added that, with this event, they close the festival with a flourish and begin a new era in which they will continue to honor and strengthen the circles of Mexican identity.

Since 2006, the Spirits Selection by CMB has been a key promotional tool for host countries and regions, raising the profile of their spirits in global trade.

Its awards system is recognized as a benchmark within the spirits industry, influencing market trends and decisions. The rigorous selection of judges guarantees a high-quality evaluation process, which grants prestige to the award-winning brands.

The holding of the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Jalisco represents a historic opportunity to establish the state as a global leader in the spirits industry.

Beyond the technical evaluation, the event becomes a platform for international visibility that strengthens the competitiveness of Mexican brands, boosts tourism promotion, and celebrates the cultural richness of Jalisco.

Víctor Manuel Martínez Quesada, Coordinator of the Member Services Committee of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry, was also present.

With a solid infrastructure, a deep-rooted tradition in the production of tequila and raicilla, and an agenda that integrates high-level sensorial and cultural experiences, Jalisco is consolidating itself as the ideal host for this world-class event.

To learn more:

● The Jalisco tequila industry represents one of the most important economic pillars of the country, with a production of more than 400 million liters by 2024.

● Raicilla has registered exponential growth, with a 307 percent increase in international sales in recent years.

● In July 2025, Jalisco was recognized nationally and internationally for setting the Guinness World Record for the largest tequila bottle display in the world, with 3,199 bottles gathered at Tequila Lab.

This achievement reinforces the state’s position as the epicenter of tequila culture and a strategic location for the Spirits Selection.
