San Sebastián
San Sebastian is a hidden gem located an hour and ten minutes from Puerto Vallarta, at the foot of the Sierra Madre mountain range. El Tuito, is an authentic colonial village embraced by the Sierra Madre mountain range, just 45 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta. Its name derives from the nahuatl language meaning “beautiful small valley”. Due to it being 2,500 feet (762m) above sea level, the temperature is cooler and less humid than in Puerto Vallarta.

Talpa de Allende is approximately over 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta. The town was founded in 1599 at 4000 feet (1200m) above sea level, embraced by the majestic mountains of the Sierra Madre. Every year, on four different festivities, this church receives hundreds of thousands of pilgrims that visit Talpa’s tiny Virgin statue, also known as “La Chaparrita”, which they believe has healing powers.

Les pèlerinages en l’honneur de la Vierge de Guadalupe rassemblent, pendant les 12 premiers jours du mois de décembre, des milliers de fidèles qui descendent dans les rues du centre-ville de Puerto Vallarta pour démontrer leur foi et rendre grâce pour les faveurs reçues au cours de l’année.
Le programme du Festival Guadalupana de Puerto Vallarta enregistre jusqu’à 400 processions au cours de la douzaine d’années. Dans chacun d’eux, les contingents chantent des prières et des louanges à la Vierge brune sur un parcours qui commence dans la rue 31 de Octubre et continue le long de la rue Juárez jusqu’à l’autel de l’église de Notre-Dame de Guadalupe.
Les pèlerins les plus solvables sont accompagnés de charrettes faisant allusion à l’apparition du Guadalupana sur la colline de Tepeyac, de groupes de danseurs folkloriques, de mariachis et de musique live.
Ce que l’on appelle le “pèlerinage des favorisés” revêt une importance particulière. Il s’agit de la plus grande procession de toutes, avec jusqu’à 20 000 personnes qui y participent. Le pèlerinage commence le matin et dure plusieurs heures le 12 décembre.
Les Festivals Guadalupana de Puerto Vallarta ont été déclarés « Patrimoine culturel immatériel de l’État de Jalisco » en 2018, pour matérialiser l’identité collective de la municipalité.
