South of Puerto Vallarta, Las Animas Beach

Las Animas Beach
Las Animas Beach Jalisco

Las Animas Beach. South of Puerto Vallarta, between Boca de Tomatlán and Quimixto, lies a less-crowded tropical paradise: Las Ánimas Beach. This destination is a favorite among visitors for enjoying the sea, combining relaxation, adventure, and delicious cuisine all in one place. Let’s discover it!

Las Animas Beach

A beach for nature lovers

Las Ánimas de Quimixto, also known simply as Las Ánimas, is a 600-meter-long beach surrounded by spectacular rock formations. The soft sand, crystal-clear waters, and calm waves make it perfect for water sports such as snorkeling and diving.

Although small, its natural wealth is impressive. It is shaded by majestic tropical trees such as capomo, fig, palm, banana, and even coffee trees, which are home to various species.

Among the local fauna, you can find quail, green and black iguanas, lizards, opossums, armadillos, squirrels, and several species of butterflies. Additionally, from December to March, boaters have the chance to observe dolphins, manta rays, and even humpback whales near this beach.

What to do at Las Ánimas Beach

If you want to relax, at Las Ánimas Beach you’ll find plenty of lounge chairs and palapas waiting for you to lie down, sunbathe, and enjoy the view. Around the beach, there are a variety of seafood restaurants where you can order your favorite drink and delicious local food.

Would you prefer something more active? You can walk along the coast or take a short trip to Caballo Beach, about 400 meters north of Las Ánimas. This beach is equally beautiful and even less crowded than Las Ánimas, but the waves are stronger, so it’s not recommended for water activities.

But if adrenaline is your thing, Las Ánimas Beach offers all the experiences you need. You can take a banana boat ride, go parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, or venture out to Las Ánimas Beach Adventure Park.

How to get to Las Ánimas Beach?
Due to the characteristics of the area, Las Ánimas Beach is not accessible by car or bus. Therefore, the most popular way to get there is by boat, via pangas (boats) or water taxis. These taxis can also take you to Quimixto, Majahuitas, Yelapa, or even Mayto.

If you are in Puerto Vallarta, you can take a water taxi from Los Muertos Beach to Las Ánimas, costing approximately 550 pesos for a round trip.

Or you can travel to Boca de Tomatlán via the Puerto Vallarta-Manzanillo Highway 200. Once in Boca de Tomatlán, head to the boardwalk and you’ll find the pangas there.

From Boca de Tomatlán, you can also reach Las Ánimas Beach by land. There is a moderately difficult hiking trail that winds for 3 kilometers through the mountains, facing the ocean.

Las Animas Beach Trail

The trip takes approximately 1.5 hours each way, but you will enjoy magnificent panoramic views, see the rainforest up close, and make stops at Colomitos Beach, Madagascar Beach, and Caballo Beach.

How do Generation Z and older adults travel in Mexico?

Female Green Traveler
Do travel motivations change over the years? Through its most recent survey, Booking.com revealed the behavior and preferences of Mexican travelers based on their experiences over the past year and their travel plans for the next 12 months.

According to this study, the priorities and expectations of Mexican travelers were identified by age, and the results show a clear generational contrast: while some seek tranquility and sunsets on the beach, others follow TikTok creators to decide their next destination.

18 to 24 years old: connection with nature… and with social media
Gen Z have a different vision of travel. 21% choose rural areas with nature and comfort food, showing a penchant for authentic and spiritual experiences. But the way they discover these destinations also speaks to their generation: 40% use Reels and TikToks as a source of inspiration when deciding which places to visit, and 39% consider it essential to check out the destination’s restaurants before traveling.

65+: Beaches, Silence, and Complete Rest
For many older adults, traveling means completely disconnecting. In fact, 67% of Mexican travelers over 65 seek quiet destinations, while 66% prefer beach locations where they can go into “airplane mode” and relax without distractions. This need for calm is complemented by a love of small pleasures: 50% of them seek simple but meaningful activities like watching sunsets on the beach, escaping from rushed or over-planned tourism.

“What we see in this data is that, depending on their stage of life, Mexican travelers prioritize different emotions and experiences: from tranquility and connection with nature to digital inspiration and culinary discovery.

These findings reveal how tourism is no longer a single experience, but a spectrum that changes with each stage of life. From those seeking absolute peace to those looking for the best photo or dish to share on social media, the perfect trip is as diverse as the people who take it.

Acheter des bijoux en argent au Mexique

0
Silver Jewelry Puerto Vallarta
Silver Jewelry Puerto Vallarta

Prix approximatif à Puerto Vallarta (MXN / USD)

History: What are Mexico archeological sites ?

0

Mexico is rich in archaeological sites, with thousands of ancient ruins left behind by advanced pre-Columbian civilizations like the Maya, Aztec, Olmec, Zapotec, Mixtec, and Toltec. These sites span thousands of years and offer insight into some of the most complex and influential cultures of the Americas.

As of 2022, Mexico has 37,266 recorded archaeological sites. Mexico has over 200 registered archaeological zones open to the public, managed by INAH (Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia). Others are still being excavated or are less accessible. https://uncoveredhistory.com/mexico/

Exploring Mexico’s Ruins: A Timeless Adventure Awaits …
Mexico’s rich history of pre-Hispanic civilizations, such as the Maya, Aztec, and Zapotec, is preserved in hundreds of archaeological sites across the country. From the famous pyramids of Teotihuacan to the jungle-shrouded ruins of Calakmul, these sites offer a window into ancient Mesoamerican life.

Famous and popular archaeological sites

Central Mexico
Teotihuacan: Located near Mexico City, the UNESCO-listed “City of the Gods” flourished between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D.. It is famous for its massive pyramids, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, which are connected by the Avenue of the Dead.

Templo Mayor: Situated in the heart of Mexico City, this was the main temple of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan. The ruins were uncovered in the 1970s and can be visited today next to the city’s main cathedral.

The Great Pyramid of Cholula: While it appears to be a natural hill with a church on top, this site near Puebla is the largest pyramid in the world by volume. Visitors can walk through tunnels carved inside the structure to see its layers of construction.

Tula: The capital of the Toltec civilization, located in the state of Hidalgo, is known for its “Atlantean” statues. These massive, 13-foot-tall carved basalt columns stand atop the Pyramid of Quetzalcoatl.

Yucatán Peninsula

Chichén Itzá: A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, this ancient Maya city is famous for its El Castillo pyramid, which creates a snake-like shadow during the spring and autumn equinoxes.

Tulum: This site features an ancient walled Maya city perched on cliffs overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea, creating a uniquely stunning setting.

Coba: This sprawling jungle site is connected by ancient Maya roads called sacbeob. Visitors can rent bicycles to explore the different sections and climb the Nohoch Mul pyramid, one of the tallest in the region.

Uxmal: Known for its Puuc-style architecture with intricate facades and ornate stone mosaics, Uxmal is a less crowded but equally impressive
Maya city in the Yucatán. The Pyramid of the Magician, with its unusual rounded shape, is a highlight.

Southern Mexico

Monte Albán: Overlooking the Oaxaca Valley, this mountaintop site was the capital of the Zapotec civilization for over 1,000 years. It features terraces, plazas, and ball courts built on an artificially flattened mountain.

Palenque: Set within the rainforest of Chiapas, Palenque is celebrated for its elegant Maya architecture and sculpted reliefs. Highlights include the
Temple of the Inscriptions, which houses the tomb of Pakal the Great.

Calakmul: This remote and vast Maya metropolis in the Campeche jungle is less visited but was once a major rival of the city of Tikal. You can still climb one of its pyramids for breathtaking views over the jungle canopy.

Bonampak: Also deep in the Chiapas jungle, this site is famous for its well-preserved, detailed murals that depict scenes of Maya courtly life and warfare.

Lesser-known or regional sites

Ek’ Balam (Yucatán): A fascinating, less-crowded Maya site featuring a massive acropolis and preserved stucco sculptures. From the top of the main pyramid, visitors can see the ruins of Coba.

El Tajín (Veracruz): A UNESCO site and former capital of the Classic Veracruz culture, this site is architecturally unique, with its famous Pyramid of the Niches and numerous ball courts.

Mitla (Oaxaca): A Zapotec ceremonial center known for its elaborate geometric fretwork mosaics covering the walls of its palaces.

La Venta (Tabasco): An important Olmec site from around 1200 to 400 B.C., it is known for its colossal stone heads. Many artifacts are now housed in Parque-Museo La Venta.

Cuicuilco (Mexico City): One of the oldest excavated cities in the Valley of Mexico, occupied from 700 B.C.E. until it was covered by lava from a volcanic eruption.

You can find maps of Mexico’s archaeological sites through resources like the INAH website, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, and various travel guides from providers like Archaeology Travel and National Geographic. These resources often highlight major sites, such as the famous Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá, Palenque, and Tulum, as well as the ancient city of Teotihuacan, to help you visualize and plan your visit.

Here are some ways to find maps of Mexico’s archaeological sites:

National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH): The INAH is the primary authority on archaeological sites in Mexico and likely maintains official maps or lists of sites on its website.

UNESCO World Heritage Centre: You can explore the official UNESCO website for its list of World Heritage Sites in Mexico, which includes many famous archaeological sites, and may provide maps or links to detailed information.

Travel and History Websites: Websites like Archaeology Travel, National Geographic, and Rudi Steele Travel provide guides and maps featuring top sites such as Chichén Itzá, Teotihuacan, and Palenque.

Puerto Vallarta Celebration World Tourism Day

Green Travel: Puerto Vallarta for Mindful Globetrotters

Did you know that Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s most sustainable destinations? This region of the Pacific is known for more than just its stunning beaches with soft golden sand and diverse culinary options, including over two thousand restaurants. It’s also a hub for vibrant cultural and artistic activities. Notably, it has set a standard for environmentally friendly practices in the tourism industry.

In Puerto Vallarta, the natural splendor of Banderas Bay is complemented by community and business initiatives that prioritize its preservation for the benefit of both residents and visitors.

This year, World Tourism Day is dedicated to promoting responsible and sustainable tourism. For this reason, we are presenting the remarkable synergy that Puerto Vallarta achieves by harmoniously integrating its awe-inspiring attractions with initiatives that demonstrate environmental responsibility and provide meaningful support to the local community.

World Tourism Day 2025 Vallarta – Nayarit Sep 27th https://promovisionpv.com/world-tourism-day-2025-vallarta-nayarit/

Sustainability Is a Commitment
Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to sustainability isn’t just a theoretical idea — it’s a tangible, practical approach that’s woven into every aspect of the tourism industry. A variety of stakeholders, including hotels, restaurants, tour operators, DMCs, and local associations, are collaborating to minimize the eco-footprint of visitors.

The main practices that are followed are:

Clean energy use in resorts and hotels.
Programs for recycling and reducing single-use plastics.
Certifications of environmental responsibility for tourism services that meet international standards.
Puerto Vallarta has a solid wastewater treatment program that has been recognized over the last 20 years for its drinking water quality. Another interesting development is the growth of eco-friendly facilities like the expansion of Puerto Vallarta International Airport, whose Terminal 2 aims to be a trailblazer in Latin America with Net Zero Smart Building certification.

These actions further solidify Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a destination that is dedicated to promoting responsible tourism.

Protecting Biodiversity
Puerto Vallarta is a sanctuary of biodiversity, a place where many different species of plants and animals thrive. The destination has successful programs for wetland protection, as well as for the conservation of coral and terrestrial and marine wildlife. There are also citizen initiatives for sanitation and marine debris collection. The destination is also renowned for its program to assist whales and other marine wildlife that become trapped in fishing nets at sea.

Every year, the Friendliest City in the World welcomes visitors seeking real and meaningful experiences. These include humpback whale watching, an activity that is carefully planned to protect these animals during their migration season.

Another attraction is the release of sea turtles, an event organized by local conservation centers and a variety of hotels committed to the protection of endangered species.

Additionally, the Macaw Sanctuary, located in the Sierra Madre mountains south of Puerto Vallarta, has become a model for nature tourism. This type of tourism promotes environmental education and the protection of birds that are native to the area.

Sustainable Practices in Hospitality
Puerto Vallarta’s most iconic hotels, including Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel & Mexican Charm, Hotel El Pescador, Hotel Rosita, Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, and Velas Vallarta, have adopted green initiatives and “zero waste” strategies. These hotels have integrated practices such as:

Composting of organic waste.
Separation of solid waste.
Recycling programs.
Donating surplus food to local food banks.
Using water and electricity in a smart way.
Stopping the use of single-use plastics.
Managing wastewater for both treatment and reuse.

These policies have dual benefits: they reduce environmental impact and enhance the experience of the conscious traveler, who is increasingly interested in consuming responsibly.

A Committed Community
The Puerto Vallarta community is also promoting sanitation and waste collection projects beyond the hospitality industry. Beach clean-up and marine debris collection campaigns are carried out by citizen organizations, involving both residents and tourists. These initiatives aim to reduce plastic pollution and raise awareness among visitors about the importance of caring for the coastal ecosystems of Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta is setting an example for how collaboration between the community, authorities, and tourism companies can create a more resilient and attractive destination in the context of World Tourism Day 2025.

The combination of nature, culture, and environmental commitment makes Puerto Vallarta a city where travelers enjoy unique experiences while contributing to the conservation of the destination.

In Puerto Vallarta, tourism is not just enjoyed—it’s experienced with awareness. Your next visit is an ideal chance to support sustainable practices. These practices protect the environment while strengthening the local economy.

This 2025, celebration of World Tourism Day by traveling responsibly and discovering Puerto Vallarta, a destination where nature, culture, and sustainability coexist in harmony.

Buying Silver Jewelry in Mexico

0
Silver Jewelry Puerto Vallarta
Silver Jewelry Puerto Vallarta

Buying Silver Jewelry. There is a lot to cover when it comes to silver and silver jewelry in Mexico, history, production, design, quality, and where to buy safely. Let me walk you through the main points. If you want more detail in any particular area (e.g. Taxco, modern vs traditional, investing, etc.), I can dive deeper.

Silver Mining & Production in Mexico

Mexico is the world’s top producer of silver, with many large active mines.
Mexico Mining Center

Some of the biggest mines are Peñasquito (in Zacatecas), Juanicipio, etc.

States like Zacatecas, Durango, Sonora, and Guanajuato have long histories of silver mining and remain central to silver output.

Silver Jewelry Tradition & Design

Buying Silver Jewelry
Buying Silver Jewelry

Taxco, Guerrero is perhaps the most famous silver‑jewelry town in Mexico. It has become nearly synonymous with Mexican silver jewelry, thanks largely to William Spratling, an American who revitalized and reimagined silver jewelry work there in the early 20th century.

Workshops in Taxco produce a large share of Mexico’s artisanal silver goods. The city is often considered the cultural capital for silversmiths.

Designs range from very traditional / artisan, using motifs from indigenous, colonial, or local styles, to more modern, artistic, or designer takes. Materials can include stones, enamel, and various textures.

Quality, Marks & What to Watch Out For

Buying Silver Jewelry
Buying Silver Jewelry

The standard “sterling silver” purity (92.5% silver, typically stamped “925”) is commonly used. Authentic pieces will often have stamps like “.925”, “925 Mexico”, or something similar depending on region or maker.

Beware: some pieces are made of silver‑plated materials, alpaca metal (a base metal alloy, often with nickel/copper/etc.), or other low‑silver content materials. These may be stamped or presented in ways that imply (but don’t deliver) higher quality.

Testing (magnetism, acid tests, weight & feel, where bought, reputation of seller, etc.) helps.

Economic & Cultural Importance

Buying Silver Jewelry
Buying Silver Jewelry

Silver plays a big part in local economies (mining regions, silversmithing hubs, tourism). Artisans, workshops, tourism shops all benefit.

There is a strong cultural heritage around silver jewelry: indigenous symbols, colonial history, preserving craft techniques, family workshops passed down through generations.

Where to Buy & Practical Tips (Especially If You’re a Visitor)

Buying Silver Jewelry
Buying Silver Jewelry

In major hubs like Taxco, Mexico City, Oaxaca, etc., you can find both high‑quality artisan pieces and more tourist‑oriented “souvenir” silver. The price, quality, style vary accordingly.

If possible, visit workshops or reputable stores rather than street vendors only, if you want higher quality / authenticity.

Always ask for a stamp or hallmark and try to see the metal in less‑visible spots (e.g. inside of clasp or back) where plating would be more obvious.

Ask about the maker: many small silversmiths mark their work and can tell you where the piece was made, what purity, etc.

Buying Silver Jewelry

Be aware of customs / export rules if you are taking silver jewelry outside of Mexico (but usually jewelry is fine).

If you like, I can pull up a list of good silversmiths in Puerto Vallarta or compare prices of silver jewelry here vs elsewhere, so you know what fair looks like.

Here is a breakdown of good silversmiths / trustworthy jewelry shops in Puerto Vallarta, rough price ranges, and what “fair” looks like so you can judge deals better.

Price Ranges & What “Fair” Looks Like

Buying Silver Jewelry
Buying Silver Jewelry

To get a sense of whether you are getting a good deal, here are typical prices you’ll see and what factors affect them.

Item Type / Complexity
Approx Price in Puerto Vallarta (MXN / USD)
What influences price
Small silver stud or simple earring (no gemstones, minimal design)
Around MXN 90‑150 for cheaper ones from vendors; maybe MXN 300‑500 in a good shop.

Weight of silver, purity (925 vs something lower), shop markup, artisan vs mass‑produced.
Mid‑range silver necklace or pendant with semi‑precious stone or more detailed design
MXN approx 1,000‑2,500 (USD ~50‑125) depending on design, stone, weight.
Work involved (handcrafted detail), stone quality, whether the maker is well known.
Designer or luxury silver pieces (e.g. artisan‐crafted, from Taxco tradition, set with opals, fire opals, etc.) MXN 3,000‑10,000+ or more, depending on size and design. Brand name, exclusivity, materials, size, certificate etc.

Buying Silver Jewelry

Silver Price / Material Costs

To understand whether the retail price is fair, it helps to know what the raw material costs look like:

Current silver rate in Puerto Vallarta is about MXN 228 per 10 grams.
UrduPoint
Quote

Pure “sterling silver” is 92.5% silver; so the material cost for an item weighs heavily on its weight in silver. The more silver and the more fine (higher purity), the higher the base material cost.

Shops need to cover labor (design, stone setting, finishing), overhead, profit margin. So markups of 2‑5x base silver+stone cost are common, more for designer/brand pieces.

Buying Silver Jewelry
Buying Silver Jewelry

What to Watch Out For / Tips

Always check for the .925 stamp (or sometimes .950 etc.). If there’s no mark, ask what purity the piece is.

Be careful with vendors on beaches or at tourist spots: cheaper, but often lower quality (plated or low silver content). Some travelers report paying high prices for low value.

Negotiate a bit if you think the markup is large, especially if buying from a smaller shop (but respect artisan work).

Compare pieces by weight if similar design and purity; heavier silver means more intrinsic value.

Ask for certificates or guarantees (especially in higher‑end shops) for stone authenticity and silver purity.

Recommended Silversmiths & Jewelry Shops in Puerto Vallarta

Here are shops with good reputations, local artisans, or places less likely to rip you off: (listed from AI)

Alberto’s Jewelry Designs
Long‑standing family business (3 generations), original designs, good quality silver + stones. albertosjewelry.mx Romantic Zone (Lázaro Cárdenas 231‑A)
.

River Joyería / Jewels Vallarta
Designer pieces, solid .925 / .950 silver, decent selection of stone‑set jewelry.

Cassandra Shaw Jewelry
Unique one‑of‑a‑kind pieces, made by local silversmiths; more artistic / bold.

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Riviera Nayarit

0

0

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Riviera Nayarit Mexico. La Cruz – An Authentic Mexican Fishing Village Tradition has always been one of the essential characteristics of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Mexico, which is just 6-km up the coast from Bucerias.

A fishing village for generations, this coastal town has been modernized thanks to the construction of the Riviera Nayarit Marina —the largest and most modern of the corridor. Nayarit Marina has helped to create a Nayarit destination that harmoniously combines the traditional life of a Mexican pueblo with the sophistication of a modern development. So, when visiting La Cruz, as the locals call it, you will have the opportunity to witness postcard worthy scenes such as the arrival of fishermen on the pier in their Panga boats loaded with a variety of fish.

About Nayarit Marina

Vacation in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Mexico and admire the beautiful sunsets as you savor a margarita in the Sky Bar located inside the Marina. “We seek contact with authentic Mexico,” expresses Rafael Alcántar, Harbor Master of the Marina.

Nayarit Marina is the most modern on the Mexican Pacific with a capacity of 400 ships measuring between 30 and 400 feet. The marina is equipped with all the services needed for a comfortable stay: bathrooms and showers, security, electricity and fueling stations.

This modern La Cruz development includes a yacht club, business center, sky bar, restaurant, seafood market, and pier. It also has one of the best equipped shipyards in the country, which among other things, is home to the largest travel lift on the Pacific.

All of the maritime development and fishing village charms of La Cruz wouldn’t be complete without the golden sands of La Cruz Beach, which covers five kilometers (three miles) and is divided into five sections: El Tizate, Cruz de Huanacaxtle, La Manzanilla, Piedra Blanca, and Arena Blanca.

Here, you will find not only the obvious delights of a tropical beach, but also a variety of restaurants where you can dine on dishes of freshly caught fish and creations that have been a culinary tradition of this town for more than 50 years.

And there is no shortage of things to do in the area. Enjoy numerous local activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing (in winter the waves reach heights adequate for this sport), and of course fishing. Deep sea fishing is one of the main water activities of La Cruz, thanks to the abundance of fish species such as tuna, marlin and mahi-mahi.
