The birthplace of vanilla, Mexico produces some of the world’s finest vanilla beans. But there is often a lot of confusion about Mexican vanilla extracts. Vanilla beans cultivated around the world originally all came from Mexico. When Cortés came to conquer Mexico in 1519, he sent samples of the vanilla orchid back to Spain where they eventually spread to other growing areas around the world
All vanilla beans derive their quality not from the region where they are grown, but from their methods of cultivation, harvest, and curing.

Yes, there are subtle flavor differences in beans from different regions. But as with wine, distinguishing those differences, and describing them, requires a keenly developed palette.
There are numerous words used to label the “vanilla” sold in stores around the world today. BEWARE! The cheap product in the big bottle is not vanilla at all. It is imitation vanilla with unknown ingredients.

So why do so many people love Mexican vanilla extract and indeed go out of their way to buy it? Clearly there’s something different about Mexican vanilla extract!
To understand why, we have to look at the price of vanilla extract, and U.S. food safety and labeling standards.
What many people don’t know is that in the countries where vanilla is grown, the average person cannot afford to buy it. This has been especially true in the last three years, as bean prices have broken records.
Grown from an orchid, vanilla beans are one of the world’s most difficult crops to cultivate. After harvest, the beans require an arduous and tricky nine-month process of sun drying to cure properly. Vanilla simply does not lend itself to mechanization or other methods of mass production. From start to finish, vanilla beans are produced by hand. This method is feasible only in poor countries where wages are low. As a result, in countries where vanilla is grown, the average person simply cannot afford to spend $$$ on a bottle of vanilla extract.
Artificial vanilla extract is affordable, and is the vanilla extract predominantly sold in countries that produce vanilla beans. This is the paradox of vanilla’s hand-crafted production.
That is why in Mexico, even though the country grows very fine beans, artificial vanillas dominate the market.
Pure Vanilla Extract has a complex flavor, comprised of approximately 300 individual flavor components all working together to create its rich flavor and bouquet. Producing premium pure vanilla extract always begins with the beans. You cannot produce high quality extracts with inferior quality beans! It can be found in several strengths called fold: single (1X) and double (2X) are common for the baking industry. There is even a 60X strength available only to industrial users where excessive liquid is a problem.

Pure Mexican Vanilla has at least a 35% alcohol content and higher natural vanillin concentration. It is therefore best utilized in those items which require high heat, such as baked goods. This allows much of the alcohol to burn off. The color is light brown from the cured beans. Although expensive, this is the BEST vanilla you can buy in Mexico.
Traditional Mexican Vanilla has 10% alcohol (90% water) and less than 1% of natural vanillin. The vanillin helps hold the flavor. Also the less alcohol makes the vanilla much more versatile and can be used for anything that calls for vanilla such as French toast, smoothies, homemade ice cream, whip cream, cookies, cakes, oatmeal, etc.
Some of the vanilla extracts sold in Mexico are stretched with tonka bean extract, which has a similar taste and aroma to vanilla but contains coumarin which can be toxic to the liver and is banned as a food additive by the US Food & Drug Administration since the 1950s. Most reputable companies avoid this additive. Other countries have less strict regulations.

Artificial Vanilla Extract In the 1880s the first synthetic vanilla extracts came from Germany, providing a cheaper alternative to natural vanilla. Soon it was discovered that synthetic vanillin could be made from the waste water of paper pulp and coal tar processing. Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean began selling cheap synthetic vanillas hoping to cash in on Mexico’s vanilla connection.

Rincón de Guayabitos, in Riviera Nayarit, is mostly frequented by locals due to its soft, golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and tropical climate.
Guayabitos: The largest natural swimming pool, this natural wonder is part of Jaltemba Bay in the municipality of Compostela, spanning approximately two kilometers in length by 30 meters in width. It is said that Guayabitos was discovered by the Spanish when they were seeking a point to embark in order to evangelize the region of the ‘Californias’.
Currently, during certain times of the year, Guayabitos beach hosts special events such as concerts, festivals, and themed parties, such as the now famous VochoFest.
What to do in Guayabitos?
There are various activities for all ages and experience levels in Guayabitos. Known for its gentle and consistent waves, Guayabitos is an ideal place for surfing. You can also take a boat ride around the bay, from scenic cruises to fast boat rides for adrenaline lovers.
Here you can enjoy bird watching, as it is located on a migratory route for seabirds. You can admire the beauty of these species while walking along the beach or relaxing in the sand. Due to its length, beach walks are one of the most common and relaxing activities. You can walk along the coast, enjoying the sound of the waves and panoramic views of the ocean.
In addition to birds, at certain times of the year, Guayabitos beach is visited by sea turtles that come to nest. You may have the opportunity to witness this natural spectacle and witness the turtle nesting process. However, remember to maintain a respectful distance and not interfere with their natural habitat.
Of course, you should enjoy the exquisite gastronomy that the beach offers, with diverse restaurants serving fresh seafood and Mexican snacks. Likewise, if you are a nightlife lover, Guayabitos has several options in bars and clubs where you can have fun.
A must-see during your visit to Rincón de Guayabitos is the spectacular Coral Island, located just off the bay, offering visitors beautiful crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and wonderful landscapes.
There, you can practice diving, snorkeling, and bird watching. Due to the rocks and corals, access to this island is a bit challenging, especially for children and older people, as it requires walking a few meters through the sea, where there are corals and rocks, but in the end, the journey is worth it.
Coral Island has restricted areas for the protection of the area, as tourist activity has caused some impacts on the island, so the removal of sand and coral is prohibited throughout the island.
Rincón de Guayabitos is a delight of sun and sand, perfect for a family trip or with friends. With its beautiful beaches, warm climate, and a variety of entertainment options, it is an ideal place to relax and enjoy an unforgettable vacation.

Health tourism has become one of the main income-generating niches in some countries like Mexico, which represents sustainable and constant growth, this niche generated nearly 4 billion dollars. This number added to data issued by Patients Beyond Borders, which places the country in the top five destinations in the world, with more than one million foreign patients every year, many of them Hispanic from the states of California, Arizona and Texas.
According to data from the Medical Tourism Association, 14 million people travel to other countries searching for medical care, generating between 50 and 70 billion dollars. The majority of people who do this are Americans looking to save money with quality alternatives with a better price other than those offered in their country.
Wellness tourism has had a global increase of 33% in the past couple of years, according to the Global Wellness Institute, China and India leading increasing rapidly but with the United States and Europe.
These tourists are also looking for an attractive destination, with health professionals who show reliability and warmth to have a pleasant recovery.
Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay in the Banderas Bay region have most of these requirements: health professionals, an increasing number of hospitals and institutions providing high-quality services, the most beautiful beaches and a wide range of natural and cultural places to visit.
Both of these destinations have a great chance to reactivate their economy, even though some efforts are going to have to be done to attract tourists whose purpose is to receive medical treatment, or relaxing treatments in a wellness center. Hotels, restaurants and other services may be used not only by the patient, but also by their companions besides the clinics and hospitals.
There’s a huge potential for Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas to become one of the main health and wellness destination in México.

Real estate specialists agree that the segments of housing, vacation home and hotels are the ones showing the greatest dynamism, the biggest surprise is, however, the vacation home (with value of between 2 and 4 million pesos), which means that people want to invest in their patrimony.
Look at this, a placement of 12,000 units is expected for the current year, this could generate an investment of more than 64,000 million pesos in tourist destinations such as Cancun, Los Cabos, San Miguel de Allende and, of course, the Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas regions. With a placement of 10,000 rooms that could generate an estimate of 48,075 million pesos, there are also good prospects for the hotel sector.
According to Softec, there is also a wide variety of investment options, lofts and studios for two or up to four people being the most attractive ones, because of their highest turnover for vacation rentals. In addition, even though the residential product has not fully recovered, growth expectations are positive.
Even though the figures are very pleasing, not everything is “picture perfect” for the real estate sector, due to the lack of government support for the creation of new projects and the low financing schemes for developers, the sector is also facing tough challenges, the most relevant ones being the increase in construction costs and inflation and volatility in the prices of the materials.
Because of this, it’s very clear to me that being able to develop and incorporate a real estate product into the market, within the appropriate costs, while also considering the economic changes that we are currently experiencing, is the greatest challenge.
We have an example of this “alignment” in Banderas Bay which has become sought after by investors, both Mexican and foreign, who are assured of their safe and profitable investments in this paradise with high occupancy rates which range from 62% to 78% on average in vacation rentals.
Real estate is being built in the residential segment focused on the vacation market from Puerto Vallarta to the coastal towns of Bucerías, Punta de Mita, Sayulita and, of course, the big tourist developments located in Riviera Nayarit, in Compostela, this means a unique opportunity for investors.

Starting in January 2025, Alaska Air will offer a direct flight between Puerto Vallarta and New York. We must prepare to discover everything this Mexican beach has to offer New York and everything the great city of New York has to offer the people of Vallarta.
One of the most significant benefits of this new direct flight is the convenience and reduction in travel time. Previously, travelers had to make layovers in other cities, which increased the duration of the trip and the possibility of inconveniences such as delays and missed connections. With a direct flight, passengers can now travel between Puerto Vallarta and New York in just a few hours, making both destinations more accessible and attractive.
Tourism is notably benefited by the introduction of this direct flight. Puerto Vallarta, with its beautiful beaches, rich culinary offerings, and vibrant nightlife, becomes an even more accessible destination for New Yorkers looking to escape the urban hustle and bustle. Similarly, New York, with its iconic architecture, renowned museums, and cultural diversity, opens up as a more accessible option for Vallarta residents who want to explore one of the most exciting cities in the world.
From an economic perspective, the direct flight promotes commercial exchange between Puerto Vallarta and New York. Businesses in both cities now have the opportunity to explore new markets and establish closer commercial relationships. The direct connection facilitates the transport of goods and services, which can boost economic growth and create new job opportunities in both places.
Improved air connectivity can also attract international events to both cities. Conferences, conventions, and other large-scale events may consider Puerto Vallarta and New York as venues, knowing that accessibility for participants has significantly improved. This not only benefits the local economy but also positions both cities as prominent destinations on the global events map.

Take time of your stay to visit some of those locations. Travel is Living Experiences.
SOUTH COAST / COSTALEGRE
South of Puerto Vallarta, on the road to Barra de Navidad, is one of the most spectacular areas, between the Sierra Madre mountains and the sea, with wonderful views of the Bay of Banderas. Conchas Chinas is one of the oldest residential areas of the city, with elegant homes, as well as small and beautiful beaches. Some call it the Beverly Hills of Vallarta, because of its distinguished style and its residences and villas nestled in the hills.
Further south the highway runs along the coast, connecting with Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlán, continuing to the so-called Costalegre de Jalisco, a tourist area formed by five coastlines: Barra de Navidad, Tenacatita, Costa Careyes, Bahía de Chamela and Costa Majahuas, 300 kilometers of pure natural beauty!
Costalegre is currently in the development stage with a view to becoming one of the great international tourist destinations in the state of Jalisco, with super-luxury investments from international hotel chains, Four Seasons and Cheval Blanc by Louis Vuitton, to name a few.
DOWNTOWN PUERTO VALLARTA
Puerto Vallarta’s Historic Downtown captures the history and legacy of the city and everything in it revolves around the authentic Mexican spirit. From its architecture and colorful traditions, to the friendliness of its people and its gastronomy. Highlights include the traditional Malecon promenade and the neighborhoods of 5 de Diciembre, Del Cerro and Barrio Gringo (Gringo Gulch), which boast the traditional mountain architecture of white walls and red tiles.
ROMANTIC ZONE
Puerto Vallarta’s Malecon, besides being an iconic site of this city, has become an important showcase for various artistic exhibits, in addition to having an important entertainment offer of bars, cafes and nightclubs. Along the 2 km long boardwalk, visitors can enjoy interesting exhibits, such as sculptures by some Mexican artists, as well as a whimsical collection of bronze sculptures, including the emblematic seahorse.
In front of the malecon is the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, which is almost 100 years old and is the main icon of the city. To the south is the Cuale River Island and the municipal market, an area where visitors can do some shopping.
The neighborhood known as “Gringo Goulch” is another local landmark. It is a redoubt for the first North Americans who settled in Puerto Vallarta in the 50s and 60s. There you will find the Kimberly House that belonged to actress Elizabeth Taylor. It is located at the top of the hill, behind the Guadalupe Parish Church.
VERSALLES
One of the trendiest areas in Puerto Vallarta is undoubtedly the Versalles neighborhood. In the last few years it has become one of the most outstanding places, with new and diverse options for all tastes.
There are residential areas close to stores and shopping malls such as Sam’s, Walmart and Costco, but it is also home to modern condominium buildings, bars and avant-garde restaurants, with a very good gastronomic option for locals and tourists.
In a cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is possible to find high quality restaurants, both Mexican and international cuisine, and even vegan offerings, as well as charming cafes.
PUERTO VALLARTA HOTEL ZONE
The so-called hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta concentrates most of the hotels that have been built in the city over the years. This area begins in Marina Vallarta and extends southward to the historic downtown.
Some of the city’s largest resorts and hotels are located in this area. Chain hotels such as Marriott, Sheraton and Holiday Inn share space with more local hotels such as the Krystal, Las Palmas and the Crown Paradise. Most of the properties are located by the sea and offer easy access to the beaches.
Recently, along with hotels, there has also been an increase in the development of condominium apartment buildings, and although there are many options in all categories, they are united by the quality of service and the recognized warmth of the locals.
MARINA VALLARTA
Whether with family, friends or just your partner, this exclusive subdivision has plenty to offer to tourists and travelers. It is a modern and planned urban area, known for its elegant condominiums and residences, extensive beaches with calm waves and a large marina.
You will be welcomed at the entrance of the development by the iconic sculpture of the whale and its whale calf; further on you will find the hotel area, some of them prestigious international chains, as well as the boardwalk, where you will find several restaurants, art galleries, water sports stores and handicraft and decoration stores. Another landmark of the area is an emblematic lighthouse that has a restaurant bar at the top, overlooking the marina and the Sierra Madre mountain.
One of its main attractions is the marina, where you can admire the hundreds of yachts, boats and tourist boats that are anchored at the docks, some of which can be rented for a tour around Banderas Bay.
LAS JARRETADERAS
Jarretaderas is a small typical Mexican village located in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, in the Riviera Nayarit, just 9 km north of Puerto Vallarta. The main advantage of this community is its proximity to the hotel zone of Fraccionamiento Náutico y Turístico Nuevo Vallarta. The village is only a 5-minute walk from the best beaches of this development.
In recent years, this quiet community has begun to show great activity and growth, largely due to its proximity to the Vidanta hotel complex, which is building one of the most ambitious projects in Mexico, the Vidanta World theme park.
NUEVO VALLARTA AND FLAMINGOS
It is the most important Nautical Tourism of the last decades in Mexico, and in it you can find the most important hotels, as well as condominium buildings, beach clubs, golf courses, a marina and the residential area. Many of the residences that have been developed there have access to the estuary channel that runs for 7 km and flows into the sea.
The tourist services available there are of high quality, with five-star and Grand Tourism hotels, which is why this complex is considered one of the most successful nationally and internationally.
In its navigable canals and connected to the main wetland of the area, El Quelele Lagoon, Nuevo Vallarta shelters and protects lizards, badgers, raccoons, white-tailed deer, birds and iguanas among other species, which are treated and managed when necessary by specialists and according to the laws that protect these species in the country.
Nuevo Vallarta is also a very attractive place to stroll along its avenues, such as the Paseo de los Cocoteros, which has a cycling track in the central avenue and is becoming more and more popular with tourists who ride bicycles (provided by the hotels where they stay). You can also walk along the track or practice jogging.
BUCERÍAS
Bucerías, the “Diver’s Place”, is everything the tourist can imagine when they talk about an “authentic Mexican town”. Thanks to its extensive and uncrowded beaches, it preserves the feeling of an almost unexplored place in spite of being one of the most visited in the Riviera Nayarit.
The mix of luxury hotels, restaurants and activities make this area, very close to Nuevo Vallarta and Flamingos, a perfect combination for a splendid vacation.
This once fishing village attracts those who do not want the hustle and bustle and traffic of Puerto Vallarta, but desire the amenities of a resort town. On the other hand, it is one of the fastest growing real estate communities in recent years.
An important component of the attractions of this town is its gastronomy, which you can try in any of the restaurants located near the main square, although the ones on Lázaro Cárdenas Street are the most famous and specialized.
This destination is also the winter home of thousands of Canadians and North Americans, which gives it a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Before we begin talking about Punta de Mita, we should clarify one thing. Punta de Mita is not the same as Punta Mita. The first is a region that until just over 20 years ago was home to a small fishing village that evolved to become one of the areas with the highest added value in the entire Bay of Banderas. Punta Mita, on the other hand, is a private development where some of the most luxurious resorts are located.
Both areas are located on a small peninsula, facing the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by green hills and thick vegetation. Some of the most beautiful beaches are located there, such as Destiladeras, El Anclote and Las Cuevas. Also, a few kilometers away are the Marietas Islands with its famous Playa del Amor, which has become an icon of the Riviera Nayarit, and is an ecological sanctuary known for its reefs, ideal for snorkeling and diving.
In Punta de Mita the beach with the most tourist activity is El Anclote, with calm waves, ideal for kayaking and stand up paddle, and even surfing; you can find instructors there. There are also stores, art galleries and a gastronomic corridor.
On the other side, in Punta Mita, golf lovers can practice their best swing in two formidable courses, Punta Mita Bahia and Punta Mita Pacifico. The latter is home to the 3-B hole known as “Cola de Ballena” (Whale’s Tail), whose green is located on a natural island and is unique in the world. Both courses were designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Litibu is an integrally planned development, located in one of the most beautiful areas of the Riviera Nayarit, between green hills and the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean, where nature tourism enthusiasts will feel right in their element.
Currently, there are luxury hotels of international chains such as the American Conrad Hilton and the Spanish Iberostar, as well as a magnificent golf course designed by Greg Norman, which has been designed with the peculiarity of having 8 of its 18 holes in the virgin jungle.
The place is ideal for extreme sports and eco-adventure, with beaches of fine sand and calm waves. The beaches you should visit are Punta Negra and Careyeros, extensive and rarely visited.
Five minutes from Litibú is Higuera Blanca, a town that maintains its agricultural-fishing identity intact, immersed among abundant hills and bathed by the Pacific Ocean. The town is very quiet to live in, but very active for sports and adventure activities, whale watching and turtle release.
SAYULITA
If San Pancho and Lo de Marcos are a synonym for calm and tranquility, Sayulita is, on the contrary, a riot of activity. In this coastal town located on the Riviera Nayarit, a cosmopolitan air and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere can be experienced, with a vibe similar to the sixties’ slogan: peace and love.
That boho-chic vibe is present in its streets, stores, Huichol art galleries and, of course, in its accommodations, which range from hostels and boutique hotels to camping spaces.
Like most of the coastal towns of the Riviera Nayarit, it has a lot to offer to beach and water sports lovers. Its beaches with strong waves are ideal for surfing, which is one of the sports that have made this town famous.
To the southwest and sheltered among rocks, you will find the famous Los Muertos beach, we recommend it for its privileged landscapes, ideal for sunbathing.
Discover the charm of Sayulita, its diverse gastronomic options, dive into its galleries and markets, and enjoy its endless energy.
SAN FRANCISCO, NAYARIT (SAN PANCHO)
Its name is San Francisco, but everyone affectionately calls it “San Pancho”, an old fishing village distinguished both for its natural beauty and its artistic offerings. It is located in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, between the coastal towns of Sayulita and Lo de Marcos and is part of the Riviera Nayarit tourist corridor.
San Pancho is a magnet not only for tourists but also for national and international artists who, in many cases, have become residents or frequent visitors who coexist simultaneously in a cosmopolitan environment, enjoying the artistic and multicultural environment of this quiet community.
There you will find everything from cultural centers, galleries, craft stalls, hostels, bakeries, cafes and small restaurants, to soccer fields, golf, polo and luxurious beach residences.
On the beach, just at the end of Tercer Mundo Avenue, you will find rustic restaurants where you can enjoy authentic Nayarit coastal cuisine: ceviches, aguachiles, grilled fish and many other delicacies that you will surely love.
Undoubtedly, San Pancho is the town that many dream of to retire and find peace, nature and beauty everywhere, and that with its spirit of community work has been able to evolve without losing its essence.
LO DE MARCOS
If you want to leave behind the stress, noise and destinations full of tourists, you will love Lo de Marcos. Located on the Mexican Pacific coast, in the Riviera Nayarit, its charm lies in the fact that it still preserves the essence of a Mexican village, surrounded by green hills and accompanied by the sound of the waves, which will envelop you in an atmosphere of unparalleled ease.
Lo de Marcos has evolved at its own pace, so don’t expect to find large resorts or restaurants with signature cuisines. However, that does not mean that it does not have adequate services to meet the needs of visitors, such as bungalows, villas, comfortable hotel rooms and a well-equipped trailer park. The winter season sees the greatest influx of travelers with motor homes.
The beaches are very clean and with enough space to sunbathe, swim, or enjoy the typical dishes of the sea in some of the rustic restaurants. We recommend you to visit Los Venados, Las Minitas and El Atracadero beaches, which are seldom visited, so you can turn them into your private beaches for a day.

The Bahía de Banderas (Banderas Bay) offers some of the best diving along the Mexican Pacific coast and an underwater paradise for those who venture below sea level. From coral reefs to caves and tunnels, this region offers a unique experience for travelers looking for more than just the beach during their vacation.
Diving can become a passion because it allows you to get up close and personal with marine life, coral reefs, colorful fish, starfish, jellyfish and many other species that call the sea home.
Both in Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit there are several options to discover the fascinating marine fauna. June to October is low season for diving experiences, but it is a good time for beginners, with significantly warmer waters. Experienced divers look forward to the winter season, when, with luck, they will be able to spot giant tortoises, manta rays, and even humpback whales and their calves.
Throughout the tourist corridor there are several diving centers with high-quality equipment available and professional instructors who will take you to discover the best places to dive and the fascinating marine fauna of Banderas Bay.
Below are some of the most popular places to dive in Banderas Bay:
