It’s one of the spots frequently recommended for scenic dinner experiences in Puerto Vallarta.

Tips: Go around sunset time to catch the sky colors while you dine.
If you want to stay for cocktails after dinner, confirm whether the seating is more “dinner” oriented or pivots into evening lounge.
Check for any dress-requirements for beach-front “nice” restaurants (some may ask for no beachwear or flip-flops).

Visit Quimixto Beach Puerto Vallarta. There is no shortage of incredible day trips you can take with local guides in Puerto Vallarta, but sometimes the best adventures are the ones you create on your own. Today, my friends and I set out to explore the stunning south coast of the Bay of Banderas, and it turned into one of the most memorable days I have had here.

By David Living Outdoor: https://www.facebook.com/david.custers.5 htps://youtube.com/@DavidLivingOutdoors

Visit Quimixto Beach Puerto Vallarta

We began with a morning walk through the city, admiring the architecture of the iconic Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, wandering along the River Cuale’s swinging suspension bridges, and taking in the mouthwatering smells of street vendors cooking breakfast. From there, we made our way to the bus stop at Constitution and Basilio Badillo and hopped aboard the bus to Boca de Tomatlán. It runs every ten minutes, weaving along the Sierra Madre mountains and coastal cliffs—a scenic 40-minute ride. Packed with locals, tourists, and expats, it was standing room only until about halfway, but that’s all part of the charm. It only costs 10 pesos.

Visit Quimixto Beach

Boca de Tomatlán is postcard-perfect: a golden sand beach, colorful restaurants, and a serene inner harbour filled with fishing boats and water taxis. It’s the kind of place you could easily spend the day, but we had other plans. For 100 pesos a person, we chartered a water taxi to Quimixto—once a quiet fishing village, now an increasingly popular hideaway.

After landing on the dock, we strolled through town and began the 2 km hike to what might be the most beautiful waterfall in the entire bay. The trail is accessible and easy, thanks to the work of local residents. Prefer not to walk? Horses and ATVs (guided by locals) are readily available. The hike itself was magical—lush flora and fauna, river crossings (a suspension bridge, wooden planks on sandbags, and even one crossing right through the water), plus a small local cemetery along the way.

At the waterfall, a small restaurant and bar offer drinks and snacks, but the true highlight is diving into the refreshing mountain pool. And in November, surprisingly, the water isn’t cold at all it is perfect.

Visit Quimixto Beach

After swimming and relaxing, we headed back into town and made our way to the beach on the east end of Quimixto. Two charming beachfront restaurants Charlie’s and Amaca—sit right on the sand. We chose Charlie’s this time and were blown away by the ceviche, tacos, fresh fish, and coconut shrimp. With margaritas, wine, cold beers, and a view made for postcards, lunch was unforgettable. A refreshing ocean swim afterward made it even better—calm water, easy access, and scenery you never get tired of.

At 3:30, the restaurant manager arranged a water taxi for us, but rather than heading straight back to Boca, the captain gave us a private tour of the Los Arcos Marine Nature Preserve. These dramatic stone islands are home to blue-footed boobies, pelicans, frigate birds, and more. We cruised past caves carved by the sea, even entering one for photos. Absolutely stunning.

Our journey ended in Mismaloya, a sheltered bay perfect for swimming with plenty of beachfront restaurants and a picturesque harbour. From there, we walked a short way up to the highway and caught the bus back to Puerto Vallarta—tired, sun-kissed, and already planning the next adventure.

What a day.

More of Quimixto Beach Puerto Vallarta

Quimixto is a hidden coastal village near Puerto Vallarta, accessible only by sea via water taxi or “panga” from Boca de Tomatlán. Its main attractions are the crystal-clear beach, ideal for snorkeling, and a waterfall that can be reached on foot or horseback.

CAFÉ DES ARTISTES “BLOUET ART COLLECTION”

Cafe des Artistes 1

CAFÉ DES ARTISTES “BLOUET ART COLLECTION”. Thierry Blouet’s Café des Artistes is undergoing a grand renovation for its 35th anniversary. The extensive refurbishment includes a new bar opening onto the garden, a large boutique welcoming guests, an open kitchen for diners, and a garden adorned with new lighting, reflections, and art. It seems that the modifications we’ve been experiencing in recent years now have a complete meaning.

CAFÉ DES ARTISTES
CAFÉ DES ARTISTES

THREE NEW PIECES FOR THE “BLOUET ART COLLECTION”

For this new phase, Leonardo Díaz Borioli, creative director of Estudio 3.14, the firm behind the architectural project and also artistic director of Café des Artistes, curated the acquisition of three new works of art. The centerpiece of the new bar is a high-end cocktail bar, situated between the garden and a constellation of reflections.

This bar features at its base a monochromatic image of a banana grove in plumbago tones, a piece by the Chilean artist Sebastián Hermidia, who lives in Hamburg. Enveloping the entire bar space, however, is an immersive artwork by the Mexican artist Rogelio Manzo, featuring one of his characteristic Bacon-esque portraits. This one, in red with golden spheres, makes the painting explode, conquering the entire bar space by colonizing the walls with golden circles of all sizes.

This gesture, given Manzo’s background as a muralist and his connection to Bacon, creates a Franco-Mexican expression perfectly suited to the café. Finally, visitors are greeted by characters created with simple black lines by the cartoonist Serge Bloch, a leading figure in illustration in France and the United States. Bloch’s irreverent drawings make the architecture their own, while his humor brings haute cuisine closer to the everyday lives of the diners.

These three pieces are the crowning achievement of a renovation conceived more than five years ago and meticulously carried out over that time by restaurateur Thierry Blouet.

The artwork, titled “Garden of Earthly Delights,” measures 7 meters long by 1 meter high (composed of 6 sections) and was created in Cologne, Germany by the artist Sebastian Hermida.

The third artist is Serge Bloch, and the piece is titled “The Coffee Artists.”

CAFÉ DES ARTISTES “COLECCIÓN DE ARTE BLOUET”

0
