Published on

The best parts of vacationing in Riviera Nayarit Mexico are the local culture and natural environment, and the variety of Nayarit tourist attractions appeal to all sorts of travelers. From quiet towns like Sayulita Mexico to the scenic Marieta Islands Hidden Beach, there’s always new places to visit in Nayarit and more adventures waiting for you. Riviera Nayarit has attractions you will fall in love with.

Nuevo Vallarta Bike Path

Get some exercise while exploring the city of Nuevo Vallarta. This path runs along the main road for around 3.5 miles, and in the mornings, you’ll see lots of people out walking and running. Lace up your shoes to explore, or book a local bike tour. At the north end, you can cut along the beach to Bucerias, one of the best places to visit in Nayarit for a local dinner or stroll through the plaza.

El Cora Crocodile Sanctuary

Located in the heart of Nuevo Vallarta, El Cora Crocodile Sanctuary takes you into the estuary to learn about and see these animals in their natural habitat. Crocodiles are a vital part of the local ecosystem, and supporting their conservation is one of the best things you can do while enjoying Riviera Nayarit tourism.

Bucerias Market

Stop by the Bucerias market for your souvenir shopping. As you stroll through the plaza and the surrounding booths, you’ll find beautiful pottery, traditional clothing, and woven baskets. Taking home a souvenir from here will let you keep a piece of Riviera Nayarit Mexico with you. After shopping, eat at one of the local restaurants that make Bucerias one of the best places to visit in Nayarit.

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is a Mexican fishing village situated on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahía de Banderas in the state of Nayarit. It is situated approximately 25 km from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. The town name comes from a cross that is made of Huanacaxtle wood which is located at the town’s entrance. A fishing village for generations, this coastal town has been modernized thanks to the construction of the Riviera Nayarit Marina, the largest and most modern of the corridor. Nayarit Marina has helped to create a Nayarit destination that harmoniously combines the traditional life of a Mexican pueblo with the sophistication of a modern development. So, when visiting La Cruz, as the locals call it, you will have the opportunity to witness postcard worthy scenes such as the arrival of fishermen on the pier in their Panga boats loaded with a variety of fish.

Vista Paraíso

While the Nayarit beaches are stunning, there’s just as much beauty and wonder in the mountains. For an outdoor adventure, head to Vista Paraíso, a mountain ranch where you can take an ATV, zipline, or horseback riding tour.

Sayulita Mexico

Some of the most popular Nayarit beaches are those with good surf breaks, and Sayulita is one of the hot spots for catching waves in Riviera Nayarit Mexico. It’s even been named one of the best winter destinations in the world. Even if you don’t come here to rent a board or take a class, it’s a city worth visiting. The cobblestone streets and the central plaza are filled with public art, and as you stroll, you can pop into local boutiques and restaurants.

San Pancho

Further up the coast is San Pancho, another surfing town that’s become one of the main Nayarit tourist attractions. While it’s smaller and quieter than Sayulita Mexico, it also has charming shops and delicious restaurants. Here, the waves are typically rougher than at other Nayarit beaches, but it’s still the perfect destination for an afternoon in the sand.

Monkey Mountain

Hiking through the jungles of Mexico inspires the imagination and invigorates the body, and Monkey Mountain is a two-mile climb that leads to incredible views. Start in the small town of Higuera Blanca, and follow the signs for cerro del mono, Monkey Mountain. At the top is a bird’s-eye view of the coastline, a refreshing reward after the climb.

Mirador del Toro

Another great hike along Riviera Nayarit is in Los Ayala, near Rincón de Guayabitos. Along this hike, you can stop at several Nayarit tourist attractions. The first branch of the path is Playa del Toro, a small secluded beach, and during the rainy season, a small waterfall cascades onto the beach. Nearby, the path winds up to a large cliff, a breathtaking viewpoint. Further down the trail, you’ll come to Punta Raza, one of the last untouched Nayarit beaches.

Isla Coral Nayarit

Isla Coral Nayarit is another main attraction in Rincón de Guayabitos. This large island is just off the city’s coast, creating a spectacular view. Local vendors offer boat tours out to the island where you can relax on the beach, swim in the clear water, or even try paddleboarding around Isla Coral Nayarit.

Marieta Islands Hidden Beach

The most popular part of Riviera Nayarit tourism is the Marieta Islands Hidden Beach. Over the years, the winds and waves hallowed out one of the caves on the island, and when military testing created a hole in the surface above it, sunlight poured onto the sandy beach inside. Because conservation efforts limit the number of people permitted here each day, be sure to book your tour early.
