62 beverage categories will be analyzed and 2,550 spirits from 70 countries will be evaluated, 20 percent of which are Mexican products.

Holding the competition in Jalisco represents a historic opportunity to establish the state as a global leader in the spirits industry.

Jalisco will be the capital of the Brussels 2025 World Spirits Competition

In this edition, from September 7 to 12, 2,550 spirits from 70 countries will be evaluated, 20 percent of which are Mexican products.

A total of 150 judges, of 42 nationalities, will analyze 62 beverage categories under a rigorous and internationally recognized evaluation system.

The competition will consolidate the international positioning of its spirits and strengthen the international promotion of its destinations; it has previously hosted events in Taiwan, Brazil, China, Mexico, Chile, Bulgaria, Belgium, and others.

Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, emphasized that one of the main benefits of hosting this competition lies in the broad media impact it generates, projecting Jalisco as a tourist destination and an international benchmark in the spirits sector.

“If we are already world-famous for iconic elements like mariachi and tequila, what better way to continue making waves and say that raicilla and wine are also made here, and that we also have some of the best cuisine in the entire country,” she said.

“We should immediately take advantage of this great media exposure so that many countries around the world will look at what’s happening in Jalisco and see us as a great tourist destination that continues to reinvent itself despite already being a world leader in tourism,” the Secretary added.

The competition activities will take place in three emblematic destinations in the state: Guadalajara, Tequila, and Puerto Vallarta.

The Riu Plaza Guadalajara Hotel will be the main venue, where the tasting and evaluation sessions will take place.

A team of experts has been available 24 hours a day to ensure that participants can dedicate time to exchange opinions and strengthen ties outside of the technical field.

Fridman Hirsch also confirmed that two new tequila routes will be presented during the competition, and the raicilla route will be strengthened.

“In a couple of years, we will surely be ready to present two wine routes here in the state of Jalisco to, once again, decision-makers, critics, the media, and many people who can help us promote this great wealth and diversity that Jalisco has,” he emphasized.

The competition will bring together highly recognized industry experts, producers, importers, and judges, whose participation strengthens the brands’ competitiveness and fosters collaboration among industry specialists.

“The 27th edition of the World Spirits Competition is the most important international spirits competition, with the largest number of samples worldwide. It will be held across three regions: Guadalajara, which will be the introduction for the judges; of course, the Magical Town of Tequila; and after following the raicilla route, we will conclude in Puerto Vallarta,” said Carlos Borboa, Latin American Director of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

The competition results will be published on September 29th through the official website spiritsselection.com.

Borboa noted that this year, the judges will become international spokespersons for what Mexico, Jalisco, tequila, and raicilla represent; and added that, after 27 years of efforts to attract opinion leaders from around the world, today they celebrate that none of them resisted the invitation.

Jalisco is ready for this commitment, backed by its global leadership in spirits production. It is known for its unparalleled tradition in tequila production and the consolidation of raicilla, and both beverages will participate in this international competition.

Highlights of the program include a masterclass on tequila and raicilla, taught by Jaime Villalobos Sauza of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT).

There will be food and tequila tastings at Campo Azul, themed dinners organized by Tequila Makers of Los Altos Jalisco, Tequila Sauza, and Tequila Cuervo, and a raicilla experience at Taberna Tres Gallos.

As part of the cultural agenda, the judges will attend the International Mariachi and Charrería Gathering gala, which will take place on Sunday, September 7, at the iconic Degollado Theater.

This gala is part of the 32nd edition of the festival, which will be held from August 27 to September 7, 2025, in Guadalajara and various municipalities in Jalisco, with a program of more than 170 events.

Carlos Mateos, General Director of the International Mariachi and Charrería Gathering, emphasized that the private gala at the iconic Degollado Theater is dedicated to the special guests and judges of the competition.

He added that, with this event, they close the festival with a flourish and begin a new era in which they will continue to honor and strengthen the circles of Mexican identity.

Since 2006, the Spirits Selection by CMB has been a key promotional tool for host countries and regions, raising the profile of their spirits in global trade.

Its awards system is recognized as a benchmark within the spirits industry, influencing market trends and decisions. The rigorous selection of judges guarantees a high-quality evaluation process, which grants prestige to the award-winning brands.

The holding of the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Jalisco represents a historic opportunity to establish the state as a global leader in the spirits industry.

Beyond the technical evaluation, the event becomes a platform for international visibility that strengthens the competitiveness of Mexican brands, boosts tourism promotion, and celebrates the cultural richness of Jalisco.

Víctor Manuel Martínez Quesada, Coordinator of the Member Services Committee of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry, was also present.

With a solid infrastructure, a deep-rooted tradition in the production of tequila and raicilla, and an agenda that integrates high-level sensorial and cultural experiences, Jalisco is consolidating itself as the ideal host for this world-class event.

Mexico’s Tourism Ministry Completes First Phase of National Strategy to Strengthen 177 Magical Towns.

MEXICO CITY (Aug. 13, 2025) — Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) has finished the first phase of its National Strategy to Strengthen Magical Towns, a program designed to help 177 Pueblos Mágicos grow sustainably and benefit local communities.

Tourism Ministry Strategy to 177 Magical Towns

As of July 31, SECTUR has completed gathering all the necessary information from every Pueblo Magico in Mexico to create public policies that improve tourism quality, protect each town’s culture and traditions, and bring economic benefits to residents.

Tourism Ministry Strategy to 177 Magical Towns
Tourism Ministry Strategy to 177 Magical Towns

The National Strategy for Strengthening Magical Towns aims to professionalize, consolidate, and promote these destinations without losing their identity or unique characteristics.

“In this administration, tourism is seen as a generator of shared prosperity,” said Secretary of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora. “Today, more than ever, we are working toward a tourism industry that generates jobs and well-being in resident communities, making them part of the good news sector.”

Five Pillars of the Strategy

The plan follows five main pillars: sustainability, infrastructure, professionalization, promotion, and marketing. The goal is to make each Pueblo Mágico stronger as a tourism destination while keeping its unique history, traditions, and way of life.

With 100% of the technical information collected, SECTUR now has a strong base to plan future projects that will help these towns grow responsibly and attract more visitors.

Partnerships Helping the Towns Grow

Sectur–BBVA Alliance

Through the Avanzamos por México campaign, BBVA is giving national visibility to Pueblos Mágicos and the Mexico tourism brand. This includes 150 million pesos a year in advertising on ATMs, cash registers, and BBVA’s social media. The alliance also:

● Helps tourism service providers open bank accounts and get financial training
● Supports digital tools for towns like Real del Monte (Hidalgo), Zacatlán (Puebla), and Santiago (Nuevo León)
● Expands access to credit for small businesses through NAFIN and BANCOMEXT

Sectur–VISA Strategic Alliance

This partnership uses technology to study how international tourists spend money in Mexico. The data will help promote Mexico more effectively, improve payment options for visitors, and guide policy decisions.

Magical Towns of San Blas, Nayarit https://promovisionpv.com/magical-towns-of-san-blas-nayarit/

Alliance with México Desconocido

This media partnership promotes more than 200tourism and cultural events nationwide. So far, 17 states have participated, with 243 events published online. This increases visibility for Pueblos Mágicos and encourages more travelers to visit.

New Programs to Attract Visitors Year-Round

National Sports Tourism Policy

To spread tourism more evenly through the year, SECTUR is working with seven states (Aguascalientes, Durango, Hidalgo, Morelos, Sinaloa, Tlaxcala, Zacatecas) and the Magical Town of Zacatlán to host sporting events. Forty-two sporting events have been held so far, which have brought an estimated economic impact of 583.1 million pesos.

Magical Color Routes

This program gives town centers a fresh look with colorful paint and murals, making them more attractive to visitors. To date, 170 municipalities have applied for the program, and 48 agreements have been signed. Thirteen towns have completed projects, and 10 more are now working on murals, each with an investment of 800,000 pesos.

Why the Pueblos Mágicos Program Matters

The Pueblos Mágicos program started in 2001 to recognize towns that represent the heart of Mexico’s culture, history, and natural beauty. Examples include San Sebastián del Oeste in Jalisco, Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosí, and Palenque in Chiapas.

Many of these towns have seen more visitors, better infrastructure, and new tourism opportunities, all while keeping their character and traditions.

In 2024, the 177 Pueblos Mágicos welcomed more than 15 million visitors, generating billions of pesos in local revenue and creating thousands of jobs, especially in areas that used to depend mostly on farming or small businesses.

Tourism That Benefits Communities

Rodríguez Zamora stressed that tourism growth must help residents, not just visitors. The strategy encourages local people to be involved in tourism planning and decision-making so they can benefit directly from the industry.

“Through the administration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, we will continue working tirelessly to strengthen tourism destinations with concrete actions that generate employment, inclusion, and sustainable development in every corner of the country,” Rodríguez Zamora said.

Next Steps

With Phase I complete, SECTUR will now:

● Launch targeted infrastructure projects in the towns
● Expand online promotion to attract more visitors
● Provide training for tourismworkers
● Organize more events to draw tourists outside the busiest months

The ultimate goal is to help each Pueblo Mágico grow in a way that protects its identity, supports its residents, and makes it an even better place for travelers to experience.

About Pueblos Mágicos

The Pueblos Mágicos program recognizes towns for their cultural richness, historical importance, and natural beauty. Designated towns receive support for infrastructure, promotion, and training so they can attract more visitors while preserving their heritage.

Vallarta Shines in France with Mexican Talent

0

Vallarta Shines in France, Artists Francisco Calvillo and Carlos Miguel Ramírez received important recognition in a major ephemeral monumental art competition.

This summer, in the picturesque village of Les Verneys, hameau de Valloire Galibier, the 14th edition of the International Straw and Hay Sculpture Competition was held, one of the most important outdoor art events of its kind in Europe.

Vallarta Shines in France

Vallarta Shines in France with Mexican Talent

Each year, the competition brings together sculptors of various nationalities who transform natural materials into monumental works, fusing tradition, technique, and innovation to create ephemeral art. It is part of a broader cultural program in Valloire, which hosts snow and ice sculpture competitions in winter.

This year, the competition brought together 12 international teams, who used up to 600 kg of hay, 400 kg of straw, 75 m of wire mesh, wood, burlap, and fasteners to create monumental works born of their bold imaginations.

Over nearly six days, the sculptures—some reaching 6 meters in height—were erected on the Plateau des Verneys and then displayed to the public until All Saints’ Day.

In the Series 10 category, Mexico had a prominent participation thanks to the talent of Francisco Calvillo and Carlos Miguel Ramírez Pereyra, who, with their work titled “Rêve de liberté” (Dream of Freedom), captivated both the jury and the public.

Since 2008, Francisco Calvillo has exhibited his work as an independent artist on the Puerto Vallarta boardwalk, creating impressive sand sculptures, considered one of the city’s tourist attractions.

The Mexican duo distinguished themselves not only for their extraordinary artistic skill, but also for the joy and energy they conveyed throughout the competition. Their participation was rewarded with three important awards:

Young Public Award (Prix jeune public)
Public Award (Prix du public)
Second Jury Prize (2ème prix du jury)

This recognition reaffirms the talent and creativity of Mexican artists in global competitions and consolidates Puerto Vallarta’s cultural presence at high-level events, bringing the destination’s name to international stages.

Pharmacies in Mexico, Quality, Medications
