Ibis, one of the most prominent hotel brands of the Accor Group, has presented its first global report on travel trends, focusing on generations Y (Millennials) and Z.
In collaboration with the travel trend forecasting agency Globe trender, the report offers a detailed insight into the preferences and expectations of young travelers around the world, and anticipates what the tourism landscape will look like in 2025.
Based on a survey of 9,000 consumers in eight key markets (United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Australia and China), the study highlights that younger generations value experiences more than material goods. 58% of respondents believe that “experiences are better than things”, a mindset that is transforming travel expectations.
Jean-Yves Minet, Global President of Mid-range and Economy Brands at Accor, underlined this shift in focus, saying: “Travel is not just about getting to a destination, but about connecting with people, places and moments that inspire us. Our role is to offer convenience and impeccable service to support our guests in their quest for meaningful experiences.” The Impact of Social Media on Travel Decisions
The report also highlights the crucial role of social media in travel planning. 25% of respondents say they would only book a holiday they had previously seen on social media, a figure that rises to 39% among Millennials and Gen Z. Ibis report identifies the top trends that will shape the way young people travel in 2025:

Neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta – Where to Live in PV
When choosing where to live in Puerto Vallarta, it’s important to consider the many different neighborhoods and their locations. Personally, I recommend being far outside the Hotel Zone and as close to el Centro as possible.

Ideally, it would be great to spend some time in PV before your move in order to explore the neighborhoods and decide where you want to live. However, for some (like me!) that isn’t an option, so good research is key.
Puerto Vallarta is very hilly and these hills are steep. If you are outside of the main downtown area in 5 de Diciembre, Versalles, Marina, Centro and Emiliano Zapata you could end up with a very, very steep walk every time you try to go from town back home. These steep hills coupled with the intense heat and humidity that is often present, is not necessarily a good mix, if you have heath impairments. This is especially true if you are planning to walk most places. The downtown area of PV is very walk-able, so I definitely recommend walking whenever possible.
El Centro
El Centro is probably my favorite neighborhood in Puerto Vallarta. Located between 5 de Diciembre and the Zona Romantica, this neighborhood is quaint, beautiful and is home to great restaurants and coffee shops. It also has a lovely park area right in front of the stunning Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

While there is not a grocery store in El Centro, you can easily walk to 5 de Deciembre to Casa Ley.
Zona Romantica/Emiliano Zapata
The Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, with its main downtown area known as the Zona Romantica, is the most popular area in downtown PV. This is definitely a party neighborhood and if you are right in the downtown area, you can certainly expect it to be louder, especially on weekends.

Emiliano Zapata has tons of great restaurants and shops and is also home to the famous Los Muertos Beach. While I definitely think there are better beaches in PV, Los Muertos is extremely popular. If you want to be right in the middle of all of the action, this is the neighborhood for you.

Keep in mind that while there are mini-markets and food markets, there is not a full grocery store in the Zona Romantica. You can order online at Walmart or La Comer have your groceries delivered, for a little extra for delivery.
I highly recommend visiting some Puerto Vallarta facebook groups and inquire what is available, some time before your move. Do a virtual neighborhood tour and find apartments for your budget and location. Unless you have a temporary location until you decide for a longer location stay? you may be walking along the streets, you will see apartments with “Se Renta” (For Rent) signs. This is a great way to find available apartments that are often cheaper than those listed online.

How to Get Around Puerto Vallarta
Downtown Puerto Vallarta is all very walkable areas. You can easily explore these neighborhoods on foot and walk between each of them in less than 20 minutes.
While there are reliable public buses in Puerto Vallarta, Ubers or it is alternative are very cheap. You can easily go between neighborhoods for a couple dollars and pretty much anywhere in the city for $5 or less. Because of the affordability, they are a great option if you need to get around.
If you are living in downtown PV, There is really no need for a car. Because of the walk-able nature of the city and cheap public transportation you likely will not have the need for car transportation unless you may have large quantity of packages..

The food scene in Puerto Vallarta is excellent. Living in Puerto Vallarta is fantastic as there are so many delicious restaurants at a variety of price points. The good news is, you don not need to spend a lot of money to have a delicious meal in PV. There are tons of restaurants around the city where you can get tacos for $1, that is right, full service, sit down restaurants with $1 tacos.
You can visit a ton of great restaurants that you may go back to the entire time you will be in Puerto Vallarta! You should be definitely be doing that. It is a great way to get to know the local food scene and get restaurant recommendations from the people you meet.
One thing to consider when living in Puerto Vallarta is where the closest supermarket is to your home. In the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood you will find the Casa Ley supermarket. This supermarket is large and has most everything you’ll need. They even sell clothing, home items and seasonal decorations. If you live in 5 de Diciembre, el Centro or Zona Romantica, you can easily walk to Casa Ley. Depending on how many groceries you are getting, you may need to take a taxi home.
There are many other large grocery stores in PV, but not near the downtown area. The good news is, a Taxi or an Uber will be around $3-$5 each way, so it is not overly expensive.
Yes, Puerto Vallarta is safe. Like any city, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and use common sense (do not flash large amounts of money, do not leave your valuable unattended, etc.) Do not venture out late at night alone (but I also you would not do that anywhere), and you will never feel unsafe.
Most new condos and many updated properties have new ultra-filtered and drinkable Puerto Vallarta has some of the best water in Mexico, but unless you have a UV light filter that is specifically made for drinking water. Regular water is perfectly fine for brushing your teeth.
Delivery (food, groceries, etc) is fast and cheap You order your grocery online from Walmart and La Comer. Many restaurants offer home deliveries via Rappi or UberEats
English is widely spoken, but I recommend learn to speak Spanish as for respect to your new country. You will hear English spoken regularly at stores, restaurants and tourist experiences. While you could live in PV only speaking English, while you are there, you may take Spanish classes. This will allow you to better immerse yourself in (and respect) the local culture and learning another language is always a fun and useful skill to have!

Puerto Vallarta is a port-city located in western Mexico, in the Bahía de las Banderas, one of the largest bays in the world. From the point of view of its economy, we could say that it is the third most important tourist destination in the country. Only half a century ago, Puerto Vallarta was a modest shipping port and a tourist paradise for a handful of pioneering travelers. The transformation that Puerto Vallarta has undergone in recent decades is impressive. Thanks to the growth of tourism, it has gone from being a minor port, inhabited by commercial businessmen and fishermen, to one of the most visited spots in Mexico. This dramatic metamorphosis into a center of tourism has brought changes to its inhabitants’ food habits. Although they continue to follow food patterns that might be labelled ‘traditional’, there have also been major modifications to these habits.
Barely four or five decades ago, Puerto Vallarta inhabitants lived a quiet life and had a diet free of industrialized and imported products. Those natural foods were produced locally and in the surrounding vicinity, although they also came from the countryside, from nearby mountain ranges, traditional and conservative areas, which the majority of inhabitants or their predecessors had left decades before. Their diet was composed of maize, beans and chilli -the ancient Mexican trinity- some locally grown vegetables and milk products, as well as domesticated cattle, fish and seafood was also consumed, since it was found in abundance.
The availability of natural products consumed in those days was limited by the seasons, an aspect that few people remember today. The only exotic addition to this ancient diet was colored, sweetened and carbonated soft drinks, especially Coca Cola, which entered commercial establishments and popular taste, though still in an isolated fashion. The former inhabitants of Puerto Vallarta used to eat at home. However, following a time-honoured Mexican custom, they also ate in the street, by evening attending the cenadurías (night-time eating establishments), where the classic dish, pozolli (meat and maize stew), was served, as well as others derived from pre-Hispanic ingredients, enriched and transformed by the Spanish-indigenous merging of cultures. Memories of this way of eating are still nostalgic among older inhabitants.
In the 1960’s, as part of the unstoppable growth of U.S. trade, Puerto Vallarta began to take on the guise of a tourist destination. With the burgeoning of foreign arrivals, as well as Mexican tourists, this small port of local businessmen and fishermen underwent a radical transformation. Its population rose from 5,000 inhabitants in 1950 to more than 180,000 in 2000, according to official statistics. This means a dramatic increase equivalent to 3,600 % in just five decades. Still, reliable sources, including municipal authorities, estimate that the real population of the port and the surrounding town easily surpasses 300,000, not including the floating population that arrives during the tourist season. During those years of increasing population, started the construction of enormous hotels to accommodate growing numbers of tourists, especially international ones, and a large number of restaurants and food establishments began to appear, offering numerous styles of food to satisfy every kind of consumer and newer social patterns of behavior. However, not to be outdone by these innovations, there was also an increase in traditional eating places, cenadurías, taco stands and seafood joints. Today, in Puerto Vallarta, it is said, one can find food for ‘every taste and every purse’.
Puerto Vallarta currently has 219 districts. Their food supply comes from different sources. Certain perishable goods come from local suppliers, but most of them – over 70% – come from the wholesale market in the huge city of Guadalajara, 340 kilometers away. Meat and fish products are generally from local sources. Small scale producers and some distributors provide a wide variety of goods to specialist suppliers or directly to restaurants and food establishments. Large scale operators supply goods directly to warehouses where municipal markets and retailers obtain them: fruit, vegetables and groceries.
People who attend municipal markets daily do so not only to obtain the freshest of perishable goods, but, while such visits form a daily ritual within their pattern of social interaction, they also provide the means to manage their scant budgets – which is the general rule. One advantage of making use of local markets, by far the most traditional form of shopping, is that the price of perishable goods tends to fall, since they lose their quality and freshness over time. Supermarkets, on the other hand, mainly held by transnational corporations, do not lower prices. The commercial principle here is standardization and selling large volumes of produce.
Besides, the monopolistic nature of supermarkets enables them to handle roughly 80% of perishable goods that previously were handled by municipal markets. It is also the case that the pressures of modern life force many people – especially those who work during normal business hours, from eight in the morning till seven in the afternoon – to do their food shopping at regular intervals, usually once a week. By stocking in their refrigerators, they reduce daily visits to the market. As a last resort, they might visit the shop around the corner to obtain something they lack: some fruit or vegetables or pricey items from international monopolies of dubious nutritional value, or indeed local ones, as is the case of ‘Milpa Real’ tortillas (a packaged commercial brand), instead of the regular ones.
Another tendency is to consume, especially at night and during holiday periods, food that is prefabricated (pizzas, fried or roast chicken, hamburgers or even tacos usually sold in the street) perhaps adapted to local tastes by the addition of spicy sauce or some other ingredients. However, the change of food items and their quality constitute a change in the food model.
Current patterns of work in large urban conglomerations force people to spend a great deal of time away from home. This is more than obvious in a place like Puerto Vallarta, where a large share of the employment is in the area of services. Work rhythms in this tourist destination make the majority of working people eat at least one of their two principal meals, around midday or in the afternoon, away from home. The third daily meal tends to be frugal and is eaten rapidly at home, either in the morning or in the evening. On the other hand, it must be said that Mexicans have a deeply rooted tradition of eating food in the street, which is not only regarded as a habit caused by work patterns, but is also due to ingrained habits.
The majority of establishments which cater are the classic taco stands and seafood places. There are also a number of loncherías (a name derived from the English word ‘lunch’) and these are based on an eclectic variety of styles of food. In these, which generally open during the morning, a large number of dishes and drinks are offered. They offer items ranging from soft drinks to grilled meat, crisp fried tacos, hot cakes, ‘Cuban’ sandwiches, fruit milkshakes, hamburgers, orange juice and a plethora of dishes and drinks that belong to different cultural traditions now incorporated into Mexican taste. Apart from these establishments and restaurants registered as such, there are others such as the cenadurías, sellers of cheap take-away home cooking, lunch-time establishments, roast meat stalls and pizza vendors, as well as those of Mexican style fast food.
A fair number of these establishments stick to regional culinary tradition; the rest have succumbed to external influence. Mixtures of various culinary traditions to be found: there are largely substitutes for what is known as ‘international food’, tex-mex, fast food and, more recently, those of Asiatic origin, entirely adapted to suit customers with limited resources. These are places where inhabitants of Puerto Vallarta eat, but also many visitors who venture beyond their hotel restaurants or those considered to be gastronomic ones.
Changes in eating habits of Puerto Vallarta inhabitants affect not only where they eat (public or private), but also what they eat: breaded or grilled chicken, pizzas, hamburgers, hot dogs or raw fish, Japanese style. All these foods are adjusted to the local palate, i.e. with an added touch of chilli. On the other hand, some typical Mexican dishes receive new spices or are accompanied by imported products such as soy sauce, fish sauce or fruits and vegetables that were previously unknown. Outside influences are not only from other countries, but also from other regions of Mexico. For example, seafood tacos in the style of Baja California, which, apart from introducing new flavours, contribute to reducing the cost for vendors and consumers, as well as providing food for those who have lived in those regions or had contact with them.
In Puerto Vallarta you find both in the public and private domains the juxtaposition of culinary traditions which are the result of the town’s dramatic transformation. This juxtaposition is not conservative nowadays, since it is possible to taste mixtures that are perhaps, for traditionalists, too daring. On the other hand, whether Puerto Vallarta inhabitants have greater or lesser access to this juxtaposition – mixing depends naturally on their buying power, their social status and their resistance to change. This explains why time-honoured taco stands and cenadurías remain the same, preserving their version of local-regional Mexican culinary tradition – that of the west of Mexico- which reflects their taste and promotes consumption, in addition to keeping the food readily affordable.
In its ambition to promote tourism, Puerto Vallarta has become a place where there is a juxtaposition of culinary tendencies that are mixed or mediated by certain traditions, although Mexican tradition continues to be the dominant one. Since this juxtaposition resists conservatism, food patterns encourage the appearance of mixed culinary products, adapted to Mexican taste and spiced with chilli, of dubious nutritional quality.

De enero a octubre de 2024, registró 5.52 millones de pasajeros, de los cuales 2.35 millones son nacionales y 3.17 millones internacionales, es decir, 42% son domésticos y 58% del extranjero.
Con un ratio de crecimiento anual de 13% en los últimos años, se estima que el aeropuerto de Puerto Vallarta alcance un mínimo de 6.9 millones de pasajeros al cierre de 2024. El año anterior, además de haber roto su récord de pasajeros, también lo hizo en número de vuelos con 67.9 mil operaciones, cifra que también se espera sea superada este año.
A estas proyecciones, hay que agregar que en octubre de 2024 el factor de ocupación de asientos en relación al número de asientos ofertados fue de 86.5%, mientras que en el mismo periodo de 2023 fue de 82%, lo cual hace aún más alentadores los pronósticos.
A lo anterior se suman 4,440 asientos de salida ofertados para 2024 en las nuevas rutas desde Praga con la aerolínea World2fly y Victoria con Sunwing. Este aumento será mayor en 2025 con el inicio de operaciones de las rutas de temporada desde Sacramento con Southwest y desde Kansas City, Sacramento, St. Louis y Nueva York con Alaska Airlines, esta última con 4 frecuencias semanales.
En conjunto, esta temporada invernal estarán operando 14 rutas domésticas, 27 desde Estados Unidos, 15 provenientes de Canadá y una de Europa, para un total de 57 rutas contra 54 que hubo en el mismo periodo el año anterior.
En correspondencia a este crecimiento, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico -concesionario de la terminal- este año ha invertido 1,944 millones de pesos contra 1,938 millones de inversión total en 2023, que se han aplicado en rehabilitaciones de pista, abordadores mecánicos, vehículos y equipo de rescate, equipos electromecánicos, señalética, bandas de reclamo de equipaje, módulos electrónicos en puntos de inspección, ampliación de la plataforma comercial, filtros migratorios autónomos y una nueva terminal con más del doble de espacio en edificios y 8 posiciones de contacto para aeronaves que estará terminada en 2026. Cabe destacar que esta segunda terminal contará con la Certificación Leed Gold del U.S. Green Building Council por su diseño y construcción sustentable.

Vous sautez dans un bateau, en 45 minutes, vous arrivez dans un autre monde, portant le joli nom de Yelapa. Petit village de pêcheurs tranquille qui s’est adapté peu à peu pour accueillir de plus en plus de touristes en recherche de nature et de calme.
À Yelapa, l’électricité est arrivée il y a seulementune dizaine d’années, les gens circulent à cheval, tout le monde se salue et se connait.

Vous en profitez pour partir nager avec les dauphins dans leur habitat naturel, une des attractions touristiques majeures dans la ville.
Toute l’année, des colonies de dauphins souffleurs (les plus communs) habitent la grande baie de Banderas, il suffit de monter sur un bateau pour en voir ici!

Les iles Marietas, un archipel d’iles protégées abritant des colonies d’oiseaux (dont certains ayant les pattes bleues, trop mignons!). Ces iles sont aussi réputées pour la plage de l’amour, “playa del amor” plus connue sous le nom de “playa escondida” (plage cachée).
