Puerto Vallarta has long been known for its stunning sunsets, culture, and rich artistic heritage. The city’s newest attraction, the new Puerto Vallarta letters on the iconic Malecón, combines all of these elements into a fabulous work of public art.
The new letters represent an homage to Puerto Vallarta’s artistic roots and a celebration of her unique identity, created by local painter Marcella Lepe and her talented nephew, artist Luis Lepe.
Tribute to a legacy
The surname Lepe has a special relevance in the Puerto Vallarta art scene. Both Marcella Lepe and her nephew Luis have influenced the cultural landscape of the city.
Both were commissioned to restore the Puerto Vallarta mural that adorns the interior of the Municipal Presidency building and its colorful naive art also adorns the pillars of the Cuale River bridge, which connects the Center with the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta.
Her work is also deeply linked to a legacy that dates back to Marcella’s father, the late Don Manuel Lepe Macedo (1936-1984), a renowned Vallarta artist whose work has left an indelible mark on the city.
Don Manuel Lepe Macedo was recognized for his charming “naive” (or naïve) style, which is characterized by its apparent simplicity, the liveliness of its colors and its particular “childish” point of view. His art managed to capture the charm and beauty of Puerto Vallarta of yesteryear, in his own style that captivated both locals and visitors alike.
Lepe’s work is characterized by capturing the picturesque landscapes of the town and its surroundings, its bustling streets and its joyful festivals; all through a lens of innocence and permanent wonder. His naive art became synonymous with Puerto Vallarta, earning him recognition not only in Mexico, but throughout the world. The new letters of Puerto Vallarta
When the opportunity arose to create new Puerto Vallarta lyrics for the Malecón, it was logical that Marcella and Luis Lepe would take on the project. The symbol they created is a vibrant testament to the city’s artistic heritage through icons of Puerto Vallarta, such as the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Sierra Madre mountains and the sun-drenched golden beaches.
Each letter is a canvas that tells a story. Bright, bold colors pay homage to Don Manuel Lepe’s iconic style, while intricate details and traditional design elements reflect the charm and beauty of Puerto Vallarta of yesteryear.
The new Puerto Vallarta lyrics are a visual journey through the city’s idyllic and colorful past, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its rich artistic heritage.
The artists behind the work
Marcella Lepe, with her deep connection to the artistic history of Puerto Vallarta, brought her unique vision and talent to the project. As the daughter and custodian of the estate of Don Manuel Lepe, her artistic work has always been inspired by the vibrant culture and natural beauty of the region; and this new job is no exception.
Her nephew, graphic designer Luis Lepe, an accomplished artist with his own career path, has followed in his famous grandfather’s footsteps, embracing the naïve style and, at the same time, expanding the boundaries of his art. Together they have created a body of work that is not only visually stunning, but also deeply meaningful.
A new attraction for visitors and locals
The new letters of Puerto Vallarta represent more than just a work of public art: they are, without a doubt, a symbol of the city’s identity. Located on the Malecón, next to the iconic sculpture The Boy on the Seahorse, the sign is perfectly positioned to become a new point of reference for both locals and visitors.
The artistic legacy continues
The inauguration of the new letters of Puerto Vallarta is not only an artistic celebration, but also a reminder of the importance of preserving and honoring local cultural heritage.
Don Manuel Lepe’s legacy lives on through the work of his family, and this new sign is a testament to the enduring power of art to connect us with our past while inspiring us to look to the future.
So, next time you find yourself strolling along the Malecón, take a moment to admire this beautiful addition to the cityscape. The new letters of Puerto Vallarta represent a little piece of the heart of the city; an icon lovingly created by artists who understand the true essence of this magical destination.

The Culture and Traditions of Mexico you will find in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.
Time flies when you’re having fun and when you’re on a trip to Mexico, it seems to be over before you know it. There is so much to take in when you vacation in any of the country’s 32 states, that it can be easy to overlook some of the Mexico culture facts you could learn along the way. While the sights are stunning and the food is delicious, if you truly want to embrace the vibrant Mexican culture, brush up on some interesting facts about Mexican culture before heading south of the border. With improved knowledge and a genuine interest in exploring your destination, you’ll be on your way to the best vacation of your life.
What is Mexican Culture?
Mexican culture is a beautiful blend of the country’s indigenous roots and its history of European conquest and colonization. Modern Mexican traditions are often based on the distinct history that lies in the hearts of the people.
From homages during the Day of the Dead in November to festivities marking the country’s independence in September, Mexico culture and traditions are celebrated in grandiose ways throughout the year.
If you happen to be vacationing in Mexico around one of the country’s holidays, you’ll witness vibrant costumes and decorations, folkloric dancing, delicious Mexican food culture, and the patriotic happiness that runs deep throughout the country. These rich Mexican traditions have encouraged people from around the world to visit the land once inhabited by the Aztecs and Mayans, and to embrace the changes brought about by Spanish colonization.
Mexico Culture and Traditions
Mexico is home to one of the new seven wonders of the world. Along with the Great Wall of China, the Roman Colosseum, the Taj Mahal, and others, Chichen Itza has left visitors mesmerized since it was erected in 600 A.D.. Since then, over 2.6 million people visit the ancient Mayan archeological site per year to stand in awe of its rich history and obvious magnificence. True of many of the country’s historical sites, the ancient ruins provide a powerful look into the Mexican cultural traditions that have marked the nation since its beginning.
If you find yourself asking, “what is Mexican culture?,” you may need to ask it in a variety of languages, 68 to be exact, which is the number of official languages recognized by the federal government. Of these 68 languages, there are over 300 different dialects spoken throughout the nation. While Spanish is the most widely spoken language in Mexico, especially in major tourist destinations, if you surround yourself by the Mexican cultural traditions of the indigenous population, which still makes up almost 15% of the total population, then you’re bound to hear some of these other languages in use.
One of the most interesting facts about Mexican culture is that the country is home to 34 of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) world heritage sites, 26 of which are owed entirely to the distinct Mexican culture, 6 to its natural beauty, and 2 to a mixture of the two. From the Agave Landscape and Ancient Industrial Facilities of Tequila to the Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, the country is bursting with Mexican cultural traditions that are beloved world round.
Mexico food culture is not only mouthwatering, but it is also officially recognized as a piece of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In 2010, the organization added the popular cuisine to a list that the UN is committed to protecting due to its ties to the ancient world, its colorful identity, and the ancient technological processes that are still being used today. Mexico food culture is as diverse as the country’s 32 states, with each region offering a wealth of succulent dishes and exotic flavor profiles that are loved around the world.
Mexico culture facts are plentiful, but one you shouldn’t overlook relates to the land that so many Mexican traditions are based around. The country is one of the most bio-diverse on the planet, placing it alongside only 11 other countries who house 70% of the world’s species of flora and fauna. This special category of “mega-diverse” countries makes Mexico both stunning and unique. When you’re out and about on your next vacation, take a few moments to appreciate the diversity of the vegetation around you and the rich Mexico culture and traditions that go along with it.
If you find yourself asking “What is Mexican culture?,” simply look to the distinct history of the nation for answers. The unique blend of indigenous traditions with the country’s history of conquest and colonization has left behind a beautifully vibrant culture for all to enjoy. On your next vacation to Mexico, take time out of your day to learn a few interesting facts about Mexican culture, you’ll be grateful you did.

Designated a “Magic Town” by the Mexican government, San Sebastian is a lovely little village of less than 6,000 inhabitants, just an hour and 45 minutes away from Puerto Vallarta.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – With summer temperatures in Puerto Vallarta rising, a weekend getaway to a cooler climate can be very appealing. And, for those that own a home here, great weekend escapes are just a quick journey away. One favorite is the charming town of San Sebastian del Oeste, and a scenic 1 hour and 45-minute drive will take you there.
And what a difference a less than two hour trip can make! Leaving our beautiful tropical coastline of palm trees and beaches behind, you’ll travel up into the Sierra Madre mountains, to a totally different topography of pine trees and ranch land – and a distinctively cooler and less humid climate.
Designated a “Magic Town” by the Mexican government, San Sebastian is a lovely little village of less than 6000 inhabitants. Stroll the streets and admire the pretty colonial-style architecture, including the Church of Saint Sebastian which dates back to 1608, and stop for lunch in one of the town’s many excellent restaurants, El Fortin de San Sebastian and Montebello Restaurant being two of particular note.
It is a wonderful, peaceful getaway that offers an entirely different vibe, so much so that many Puerto Vallarta homeowners purchase a weekend escape in this charming mountain village. Yelapa paradise not to miss in Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta, besides being an enchanting beach destination with a privileged geographic location, has numerous small paradises to explore that are located very close to town.
The small tropical town of Yelapa is one of those paradises, located only 40 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta. It cannot be reached by car, so the way to get to Yelapa is by boat, which makes it an exotic destination before even getting there. You can take a water taxi from Los Muertos Pier, in the Romantic Zone, or leave from Boca de Tomatlan, a small fishing village 20 minutes away from town.
Yelapa paradise not to miss in Puerto Vallarta
Yelapa Puerto Vallarta
“Yelapa” is a word of Indigenous Purépecha roots that means “the place where the waters meet” And it fits perfectly: two rivers descend from the mountains that embrace this charming village to meet the great Pacific Ocean.
In the late 1960s, Yelapa was discovered by travelers, musicians, intellectuals and famous actors such as Liz Taylor, Bob Dylan and Jack Nicholson, all of whom described it as a place where one could disconnect from the hectic world and reconnect with nature in all its splendor, care for it and find creative inspiration. This kind of ideology, shared with the villagers, has moved the course of Yelapa’s history. It is nowadays a very popular place for eco-friendly tourism that connects with, respects and cares for natural spaces. The color and magic of Yelapa exist thanks to the fact that it maintains its customs and due to its location, it is still a place much isolated from civilization.
Cascada Puerto Vallarta
One of the great attractions of this exotic destination are its waterfalls, which seasonally have crystal-clear waters, perfect for a fresh dip when the weather is hot. The first waterfall is a 15-minute walk from the village and can be said to be a rendezvous point for local families and visitors alike.
Yelapa paradise not to miss in Puerto Vallarta
The trails to reach the other waterfall are physically more challenging, with a hike of approximately 1 more hour, so if you want to visit both waterfalls make sure to bring good shoes and enough hydration for the journey.
Yelapa is a very colorful and friendly place, with activities that you won’t find anywhere else. Some of the wonderful things you must do when in Yelapa are:
Try the pies offered on the beach, that’s right, what made Yelapa really famous are these pies. It is said that two local bakers started baking them and selling them at the beach, and they are soo yummy!
It is an excellent place to find the best raicilla. If you haven’t tried it, raicilla is a spirit, like tequila or mezcal, which recently obtained its denomination of origin in Puerto Vallarta, and in Yelapa it is a very popular drink among locals.
You will not find fancy restaurants, in Yelapa the atmosphere is laid back, the seafood is exquisite and the prices are very affordable, so find your favorite palapa or restaurant and enjoy the local delicacies!
A two and a half hour walk away is Playa Larga, a perfect place for camping.
Parachuting is an activity that you must practice when you visit Yelapa, as it is not only exciting and fun, but you can also appreciate the lush tropical area in all its splendor.

One minute you’re just a girlfriend or boyfriend but one question and 4 words later everything changes. Now that you’re engaged, the next step is to plan your dream wedding. Whether you want a big wedding or something small and intimate, the first thing you should always ask yourself is: “How many people should I invite to my wedding? ”.
There is no “one size fits all” guideline when it comes to deciding how many guests to invite; depending on the size of your family, social circles, culture, religion, etc – Different numbers of guests may feel appropriate for various couples. Anything over 150 attendees is regarded as a big wedding, whereas 75 to 150 guests are considered to be an “average” size wedding. Anything below 75 is therefore seen as small.
Of course, it’s not as easy as just adding everyone you know to your guest list for wedding but other essential factors determine whether you invite 50, 170, or even 250. You’ll first need to consider how many relatives, friends, and close acquaintances you want to share this special occasion with. You will also want to consider the size of the venue, the type of venue –destination wedding locations, indoors, beach side, for example– and the overall wedding budget.
Choosing a Wedding Budget
Deciding how much to spend on your wedding can be overwhelming if you’re handling everything on your own. It’s why getting a professional wedding planner makes a world of difference in getting your dream wedding actualized just as you envisioned. Hiring a professional takes the guessing out of your wedding budget and everything else.
Do you prefer live music or an additional 20 people? Have the flexibility to create the ideal wedding package for you. The capacity of the venue is usually something to think about when asking yourself, “how many people should I invite to my wedding?” Choose the size of your guest list for wedding and the number of hours you want to rent the venue with no issues.
Small Wedding Ideas
How small of a wedding do you envision for your special day? It can be an intimate wedding which is between 50 and 75 guests. Or something smaller with less than 50 guests. Some couples even opt for a tiny wedding of 15 people or less which is often called “minimony” or “micro wedding”. Either way, one of the top small wedding ideas is to have a destination wedding. Simply stay at a beachfront all inclusive resort, book a honeymoon suite, and have our wedding professionals plan the wedding of your dreams.
Destination Wedding Locations
Nothing beats a destination wedding in Mexico which is known for having one-of-a-kind destination wedding locations. Combining your honeymoon and wedding with a family vacation is the epitope of small wedding ideas. The benefits of having your nuptials at an all-inclusive resort are that you can have beachfront, poolside, or ballroom wedding venues, and everything will be taken care of including an open bar, gourmet cuisine, honeymoon suites, and spa services all in one location.
How many people you invite to your wedding is a very personal decision and you should discuss it with your partner. Make a pros and cons list, figure out the budget, and if not destination wedding locations, at least enjoy your honeymoon package at one of the best all inclusive resorts in Mexico:
Things to Keep in Mind for a Destination Wedding
There’s nothing more romantic than tying the knot with your sweetheart at your dream vacation spot surrounded by your dearest loved ones. Whether you choose to say your vows with your feet soaked in golden sand or at an esteemed wedding venue at your getaway of choice, a destination wedding is certain to solidify the memories and enhance the magic of your special day.
Creating such an event can at first feel like an insurmountable task when you think about exactly how to plan a destination weddingfrom far away, but rest assured that long distance wedding planning will not only be possible but well worth the effort. If you are equipped with the right tips for what to consider when planning a destination wedding, you will be sure to host one of the best destination weddings that will leave you feeling like you are already on your honeymoon.
Determine your Location
The first and most important step for what to consider when planning a destination weddingis where you are able to throw your matrimonial celebration. Not every beach town or venue will have the appropriate resources for your dream wedding depending on your number of guests, desired choice of food, or preferences for the ceremony. For example, you wouldn’t want to hold your wedding in a remote location that is difficult to access for your guests that are already traveling long distances. So choosing a location that offers the most suitable destination wedding packages for your vision will require some research.
Choose your Wedding Planner
While you might have a friend of a friend that is a stellar wedding planner in your home area, finding a wedding planner that is familiar with the locale of your destination of choice is very important for finding the most appropriate destination wedding packages. Local wedding planners know how to plan a destination wedding in that particular area and will have useful insight as well as connections with local venues, accommodations, and vendors. If you’re getting married at a resort, make sure your destination wedding packages come with the services of a wedding planner already included. It will make your day so much easier.
Your wedding planner will be able to help you anticipate wedding planning needs that you possibly didn’t think about, but only you and your fiance can really make the final call on what your destination wedding will entail. Plan a trip in advance so that you can meet your planner face-to-face, scope out venues for the best destination weddings, and taste some local cuisine to hire for catering services.
Check Local Marriage Laws and Requirements
If you are planning to have your marriage legalized in the country where you are holding your destination wedding, you will need to check the local laws and requirements for foreign nationals. Some countries, such as Mexico, require translated documents as well as health checks before a marriage can be legalized. Different countries or even municipalities within a country may have other requirements as well such as the number of witnesses required for a legalized marriage. Often these legal technicalities can fall by the wayside throughout the excitement for the big event, but remembering to check international requirements and restrictions is imperative for what to consider when planning a destination wedding. Consider speaking with law offices that offer destination wedding packages and services and help foreign nationals with the legal side of their wedding planning.
Go Beyond the Wedding Day
At the best destination weddings, the married couple and their guests typically do more activities in the area besides the wedding ceremony and reception. Spend some time researching how to plan a destination wedding group activity for before or after the wedding day. Plan for example an adventurous activity for your bachelor or bachelorette party such as scuba diving off an exotic coral reef or ATVing through the mountains. Checking reviews and testimonials from other people that have held their destination wedding in that area will ensure that you choose the activities best suited for your guests.
