For centuries, raicilla remained hidden in the mountains of Jalisco and Nayarit , an artisanal treasure known only to those lucky enough to have tried it. Its clandestine production, far from prying eyes, enveloped it in a halo of mystery and exclusion.

The rustic taverns, hidden between hills and paths, were the only sanctuaries where one could enjoy this wild agave nectar. Recycled bottles, sealed with corncob corks, contained the precious liquid, a hidden treasure from the world.

An unprecedented renaissance

However, in recent years, raicilla has experienced an unprecedented renaissance. It has emerged from the shadows, leaving behind its clandestine past to embrace the light of recognition. Today, taverns have come closer to the towns, even settling inside them.

Recycled bottles have given way to elegant presentations, reflecting the growing value of the drink. WIPO registers more than a thousand brands related to raicilla, and its presence is expanding from the producing regions to large supermarket chains and specialty stores.
