Boat Ride to Las Animas Beach Paradise. Mid-April here on the south side of Bahía de Banderas, and you can really start to feel the shift in the seasons. The temperatures are climbing, the humidity is creeping in, and that jungle heat hits a little different this time of year.
Normally, this is where we would take the scenic coastal hike from Boca de Tomatlán all the way to Las Animas Beach a beautiful trail that winds along cliffs, beaches, and through dense jungle.
But today… we made a different call.
For just 100 pesos, we hopped on a water taxi from the pier in Boca and honestly, this might be one of the best decisions you can make this time of year.

Within seconds of pulling away from shore, the views open up. What makes April so unique is how dry the landscape becomes. Many of the jungle leaves have fallen, revealing a completely different side of the coastline. You can see deep into the hills past the usual green curtain spotting hidden homes, tucked-away resorts, and rugged rock formations that are normally hidden during the lush months.

As the boat glides north along the coast, the water is calm with gentle rolling waves, and there is this constant cool breeze that cuts through the heat. It is the kind of ride where you just sit back, take it all in, and realize this is way more than just transportation it is part of the experience.
Along the way, seabirds put on their own show. Pelicans and seagulls dive into the water as schools of sardines shimmer just below the surface. Every now and then, the captain slows slightly, weaving through the anchored boats and giving you those postcard views of quiet beaches and hidden coves.

You pass stretches of untouched shoreline, then suddenly a small beach community appears, with palapa roofs, boats bobbing in the water, and that laid-back coastal vibe that defines this part of Mexico.
And just like that about five minutes later you arrive in Las Animas.

A beach that feels just far enough away from everything. Soft sand, swaying palms, beachfront restaurants, and that perfect mix of relaxation and energy.
Whether you hike it or ride it, this stretch of coastline is one of the most beautiful along the Pacific coast—but on a warm spring day like this, the water taxi isn’t just the easy option…

…it might be the best one.
