Puerto Vallarta’s Electromobility System Launches with Two Main Routes

The new electromobility system incorporates 19 electric buses, specialized infrastructure, and integrated operations; in addition, there will be ten more buses operated by concessionaires.

The new system will run along the Francisco Medina Ascencio corridor, providing accessible, comfortable, and efficient travel for more than 9,000 users daily.

It will have two routes: Main Route 2: Ixtapa – Downtown Puerto Vallarta and Main Route 3: Las Juntas – Galerías Vallarta.

With the goal of modernizing public transportation and strengthening connectivity along one of Puerto Vallarta’s main thoroughfares, the Government of Jalisco launched the first electromobility system, which will benefit more than 9,000 users each day.

They will begin operating, from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

“It is a state-of-the-art public transportation system, one of the most modern in the world, for Puerto Vallarta (…), and we are doing all of this out of love for Puerto Vallarta. We are once again delivering on our promise to this great municipality,”

The new system will operate through the Urban Electric Train System (SITEUR), in coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) and the Ministry of Transportation (SETRAN), with 19 electric buses—seven high-capacity articulated buses for up to 120 passengers and twelve 12-meter units with a capacity of up to 85 passengers.

In addition to the 19 electric buses, ten more units operated by concessionaires will strengthen the coverage of the public transportation service.

Puerto Vallarta’s electromobility system is a modern, integrated, and sustainable model that will offer services such as air conditioning, making travel more comfortable, accessible, and efficient for residents and visitors.

The project improves mobility along Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard through an operation with two main routes and one feeder route connecting Ixtapa, Las Juntas, Marina Vallarta, Galerías Vallarta, the hotel zone, the University Center of the Coast (CUCosta), and downtown Puerto Vallarta.

They will run every 5 to 14 minutes, with a single fare of 11 pesos payable via the Mi Movilidad and/or Única cards.

“In addition, seven new bus stops were built, and we will continue rehabilitating 12 more along the entire route

The frequency of the 19 units in the electromobility system will be, on average, every 7 to 15 minutes.

The new buses are equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance, LED lighting, universal accessibility through low floors and spaces for wheelchair users, offering a more comfortable, safe, and inclusive service.

In addition to improving the travel experience, the new system will help reduce polluting emissions and noise generated by public transportation, reinforcing the Jalisco government’s commitment to cleaner and more sustainable mobility.

Public Works (SIOP) carried out the necessary infrastructure for the system’s operation, including the construction and adaptation of new bus stops, as well as complementary works that will allow for a safer, more accessible, and more organized service for users.

As part of the first phase, SIOP (Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works) carried out the necessary upgrades to the Ixtapa bus stops…

Regarding the charging and maneuvering yard, the work included paving the area, marking 19 bays, preparing the electrical infrastructure for the charging units, rehabilitating the administrative area, constructing the electrical room, building a cafeteria and restrooms, and improving the access and main facade.

This new system, the Government of Jalisco continues to modernize the state’s public transportation through solutions that incorporate technological innovation, accessibility, sustainability, and an improved travel experience for users.
