Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, Mountain, jungle and sea. A unique experience! It will bring together the world’s ultra marathon elite.

The green pearl of the Mexican Pacific is consolidated as the official venue of the UTMB® World Series for the third consecutive year.

Puerto Vallarta, the paradise of sun and beach, reinforces its leadership in sports tourism by being, for the third consecutive year, the official venue of the most prestigious trail running event in the world: the UTMB® World Series. From November 7 to 9, this destination will bring together the best high-performance runners, both national and international.

Ultra-Trail de Mont-Blanc, also known as UTMB by its acronym, is a mountain ultramarathon considered one of the most relevant, which brings together the elite of sport through the best races through nature held in different cities, selecting from 2022 the green pearl of the Mexican Pacific as the official venue of this sporting event, thanks to its unparalleled natural settings that challenge participants at each stage.

This year, Puerto Vallarta Mexico By UTMB will once again showcase the best of the region, taking the competitors through trails between the mountains and agave plantations until they reach Banderas Bay, where the runners will have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the Malecón adorned with elements alluding to the Day of the Dead, such as the already famous monumental catrina, creating an exciting moment for the closing of the race.

Routes will be carried out in contact with nature in exceptional places in the Sierra Madre Occidental, a sacred site for the Wixárika people, from where the inspiration for the design and name of each of the categories was born, which are divided as follows:

Wixárika – Starting from the Magical Town of Mascota, participants will travel 147 km along complex trails through agave plantations, rivers and jungle until they reach the sea.

Hikuri – The 95km route crosses the majestic Cerro del Cabro mountain range and the iconic Piedra Bola, then descends towards the Cuale River. From there, it enters the lush jungle that leads directly to the vibrant shores of Puerto Vallarta.
Nakawé – This 49km journey begins at the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta, reaching the plains past the island of the Cuale River, famous for its craft shops and restaurants, to finish at the same point where it began.

Haramara – The start and finish are at the iconic Malecón. Runners will begin their ascent towards La Aguacatera, where they will appreciate spectacular panoramic views of the coast. Along the 33km route they will experience the contrast between the rainforest and the forest, before returning to the city through the lush and dense jungle. Ereno – For 20 km, the runners will enter the heart of the green pearl of the Mexican Pacific to live an adventure to the finish line.

Pata Salada – In this 8 km category, the Cerro de la Cruz will be explored until reaching the Mirador, the highest point in Puerto Vallarta, where impressive views can be seen. Later, the runners will travel the picturesque walkway of the Isla del Río Cuale, a vibrant place that breathes tradition in every corner.

In a press conference held at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center, Alejandro Ochoa, director of the event, said: “We are very grateful to the State Government and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust for all the support provided since the first edition of the Mont-Blanc Ultra Trail in the destination; Puerto Vallarta is a unique setting in which two ecosystems merge, mountain and coast, which has been very attractive for international athletes who come to compete, leaving an important economic impact.”

It is important to note that this is a high-performance sporting event, so it is important to consider the physical and mental demands that the competition entails by taking the necessary precautions.
