Canada Consolidates as a Key Market: Tourist Arrivals Grow 9.5 Percent in 2026
The Alliance with Tourisme Montréal Strengthens Joint Promotion and Traveler Flow in Both Directions
To strengthen Jalisco’s presence in the Canadian market and diversify its tourism offerings, the Government of Jalisco, through the Ministry of Tourism, held a training session in Montreal, Quebec, for tour operators, travel agents, and specialized media.
The training focused on building trust and expanding promotional opportunities in this international segment.
The Canadian market maintains a trend of sustained growth.
In January 2026, tourist arrivals from Canada increased by 9.5 percent and represented 28 percent of total foreign visitors to the state, confirming its importance in the international promotion strategy.
During the meeting, technical tools were provided to help comply with the regulations of Canada’s Office de la Protection du Consommateur (OPC) the Office of Consumer Protection and to facilitate access to verified information regarding inaccurate digital content that influences travel decisions.
A report was presented on the management of the situation that occurred in February, in which nearly 20,000 negative pieces of content associated with fake images generated by Artificial Intelligence were identified and tracked, along with the actions implemented for their monitoring and containment.
Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourism, reported that operations in the state’s main tourist corridors remained unaffected, and that the infrastructure was fully restored in less than 48 hours, ensuring the continuity of tourism services.
The collaboration agreement with Tourisme Montréal was also discussed, aimed at jointly promoting routes through coordinated campaigns, the exchange of strategic information, and the development of initiatives targeting tour operators, airlines, and specialized media. The goal is to strengthen air connectivity and facilitate the flow of visitors in both directions.
As part of the presentation of Jalisco as the cultural heart of Mexico, the direct Montreal-Guadalajara route operated by Air Transat was highlighted. This route facilitates access for the French-speaking market to the state’s 12 Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns), as well as to tourism products such as the Raicilla and Tequila routes.
Progress on strategic infrastructure projects was shared, including Terminal 2 at the Puerto Vallarta Airport and the expansion of the Guadalajara Airport. These projects represent a combined investment of over 26 billion pesos and seek to strengthen the airport’s visitor capacity.
As part of the work agenda, the delegation held a meeting with the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), with the purpose of strengthening the relationship with this segment, expanding promotional opportunities and disseminating the Rainbow Registered accreditation, aimed at guaranteeing inclusive conditions and standards of care for travelers from Quebec.
