The iconic Mirador de la Cruz, one of Puerto Vallarta’s most iconic landmarks, will undergo a major renovation project with an investment of over 18 million pesos. This project, funded by the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust and the Government of Jalisco, seeks to strengthen the tourism infrastructure and improve the visitor experience. The initiative, which was announced by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía this morning, will not only revitalize a historic space, but also prepare it for an even greater transformation.

The Mirador de la Cruz sits atop Cerro de la Cruz, a place that has long been a landmark for locals and visitors. Before the construction of a formal lookout point, the site was simply a cross and a space for contemplation, known for its panoramic views of Banderas Bay, the historic center, and the surrounding majestic mountains.
Over the years, it has become a popular challenge for athletes and a pilgrimage site for those seeking a spectacular view of the city. However, it is constantly abandoned, suffering from vandalism and deterioration.
The comprehensive rehabilitation works to be carried out will not only beautify the area but also lay the groundwork for large-scale projects. These improvements are expected to facilitate the construction of a new cable car that will descend to the Malecón, offering a quick and scenic access route. This attraction, the mayor revealed, is currently in the study phase for its implementation.
In addition, the existing funicular, a vertical means of transportation that helps people ascend and descend the steep slope, will be repaired, improving its functionality and accessibility.

With this investment and the vision for future projects, Puerto Vallarta seeks to consolidate Mirador de la Cruz as a world-class destination, attracting more national and international visitors and boosting the region’s tourism dynamic.
In addition, the mayor said that the project for a giant, permanent Ferris wheel remains in place, and plans will be made to install it. It could be in the downtown area, to complement the Malecón, which will also be renovated, and the cable car.
