Located in the heart of Tepic, Nayarit, Samao Brewery has become a key player in Mexico’s craft beer scene. Approaching its sixth anniversary, this young brewery has placed Nayarit on the national beer map, earning an impressive 21 medals in various competitions.
Success at the San Arnulfo Cup 2024
Recently, Samao competed in the prestigious San Arnulfo Cup, a national event held in Michoacán from March 27 to 29, judged by Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) experts.
This year, the brewery achieved an outstanding total of six medals, showcasing the quality and creativity of its beers:
Gold: Nanchi Beer (Experimental Beer)
Silver: American Pale Ale (American Pale Ale)
Silver: Pumpkin Ale (Autumn Seasonal Beer)
Silver: Imperial Stout (Imperial Stout)
Bronze: La Negra (Alternative Sugar Beer)
Bronze: Laguna (Cream Ale)
This recognition reaffirms the brewery’s commitment to excellence, further establishing Nayarit as a state known for top-tier craft beer.
The Origins of Samao Brewery
The story of this brewery began with Omar Sánchez, co-founder and brewmaster. His passion ignited in 2017 when Richard Forsith, a Canadian brewmaster, arrived in Tepic and introduced him to the art of brewing.
Over time, Omar’s enthusiasm for beer grew, and by 2019, he decided to start his own production. What began as a hobby among friends quickly turned into a promising business.
In January 2020, Samao officially registered and began commercial distribution.
