Increases Air connectivity Jalisco and Canada

Published on

Air Transat will open the direct Montreal–Guadalajara route with two weekly frequencies starting in December of this year, while Air Canada will land for the first time in Guadalajara, with three weekly direct flights to Toronto starting in November 2025.

The announcement included increased frequencies on two established routes from Vancouver to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

With these new operations and increased frequencies, Jalisco reaches more than 775,000 annual arrival seats and strengthens its air connectivity with Canada.

With the goal of expanding Jalisco’s international air connectivity, state authorities, airline representatives, and the tourism sector announced new routes and increased frequencies on established routes between Canada and the airports of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

With these new operations and increased frequencies, operated by Air Canada, Air Transat, and Flair Airlines, Jalisco reaches more than 775,000 annual arrival seats and strengthens its air connectivity with Canada and more international destinations through the airlines’ global network.

Pablo Lemus Navarro, Governor of the State, highlighted the strategic role of direct air connectivity as a driver for boosting the economy and promoting Jalisco internationally.

He specified that the Guadalajara International Airport serves as a regional hub that will provide connectivity to Canada from other western states.

“On the flight to Toronto or Montreal, we will encounter people coming from Nayarit, Colima, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, and of course Jalisco, among others; who will seek connectivity through the Guadalajara airport to Canada,” stated the Governor.

One of the new developments is the opening of the Montreal-Guadalajara route operated by Air Transat, which will begin in December 2025, with two weekly flights on Thursdays and Saturdays and an estimated arrival of approximately 5,300 passengers.

Air Canada will land in Guadalajara for the first time, with three weekly direct flights to Toronto, starting in November 2025, and projected to serve more than 6,000 passengers.

The announcement included increased frequencies on two established routes.

The first route, from Vancouver to Guadalajara and operated by Flair, will increase from three to four weekly frequencies starting in June, and up to five weekly frequencies starting in December.

The second route, from Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta, is operated by Air Canada and will increase from six to seven weekly frequencies during peak season.

“Today we celebrate these two new routes, Toronto and Montreal, with Canada, and we will have much more news very soon. Thank you for this trust,” the state leader stated.

Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro highlighted the 2.55 billion peso investment he will make in the rehabilitation of the urban image of the Chapala highway, as well as the investments that will be made in the connectivity and mobility system.

He added the exchange that will take place with Canada in preparation for the 2026 World Cup and invited visitors to take advantage of Jalisco’s tourist wonders, with its beaches and Magical Towns, as well as the benefits of Canadian cities.

Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, highlighted that, so far in 2025, the state has received more than 258,000 Canadian visitors, representing a 5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

She emphasized that this growth is the result of a solid promotional strategy and the consolidation of Jalisco as one of the best-connected destinations with Canada.

“Jalisco and Canada are more connected than ever. It’s important to mention that when connectivity grows, it opens the door to economic development, business development, and, of course, tourism, as well as a connection that benefits Jalisco society,” he said.

Frank Le, Consul and Principal Commercial Delegate of the Canadian Consulate in Guadalajara, mentioned the opportunity to strengthen relations with Jalisco, opening up opportunities for various areas such as the economy, tourism, research, and development.

Justine Descombes, Regional Manager for Mexico and Panama at Air Transat, celebrated the fact that this airline is the only one offering nonstop service between the two cities.

“This exciting addition also marks a milestone for us, as Guadalajara becomes the sixth destination in Mexico,” she explained.

Air Transat operates to more than 60 destinations from Canada to four continents, fostering, she said, the bringing together of people and achieving meaningful connections with its customers.

The addition of Guadalajara to its offering is hailed as a high-potential destination, increasing the commitment to strengthening economic ties between Mexico and Canada.

“That is precisely what we aim to offer our customers with this new flight to the state of Jalisco, where they will be able to discover hidden treasures, breathtaking panoramas, iconic Mexican culture, and the renowned warmth and hospitality of the locals,” he explained.

Luis Noriega, General Manager of Mexico and LATAM for Air Canada, explained that the route will be specifically designed to connect Jalisco to the world, with Toronto being one of the main hubs in North America.

“Toronto is located in the perfect place to connect from Guadalajara to Europe (…) In addition, Toronto is also a major hub for connections to the eastern United States, and that will give Jalisco residents the opportunity to reach Canada.”

He indicated that work will continue to increase the frequency, as is currently the case between Vancouver and Puerto Vallarta.

Raúl Revuelta Musalem, CEO of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), mentioned the importance of the change in the structure of global trade, a moment that should be used to strengthen socio cultural ties with partners such as Canada.

“I think one of the great things we are announcing today, beyond these routes per se, is the significant strengthening of Canada, which has been our key historical trading partner,” he noted.
