Guadalajara to Host the 2026 World Cup!

Published on

World Cup fever is already brewing in Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, one of the venues for the 2026 World Cup. Although there are still several months to go before the ball rolls, the excitement in Jalisco is at its peak.
Where will the World Cup matches be played in Guadalajara?

The official schedule for the largest tournament in soccer history has been released: 104 matches, 48 teams, and 16 host cities in three countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

In Guadalajara, the Estadio Guadalajara will host four group stage matches, including Mexico’s second match, a moment that promises to be historic for the home fans.

Jalisco and the Estadio Guadalajara have previously hosted major international events such as the U-17 World Cup in 2011 and the Pan American Games that same year. Furthermore, this isn’t the first time the Pearl of the West has hosted a World Cup: Guadalajara hosted the 1970 and 1986 World Cups.

Match Schedule at Guadalajara Stadium – 2026 World Cup

Thursday, June 11: Match 2
Thursday, June 18: Match 28 (Mexico’s second game)
Tuesday, June 23: Match 48
Friday, June 26: Match 66

Plan Your Soccer Getaway in Jalisco

Although the World Cup is still almost a year away, this is the perfect time to start planning your stay and explore Jalisco. Beyond the soccer excitement, there’s so much to discover around the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. In less than two hours, you can escape to Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) such as Tlaquepaque, Tequila, Ajijic, Cocula, Mazamitla, Tapalpa, or Sayula.

What about extending your stay to explore the Pacific coast in Puerto Vallarta? Or better yet, treat yourself to a few days of relaxation at a beachfront boutique hotel in Costalegre? In Jalisco, there are plenty of reasons to stay… even after the final whistle.

The World Cup Countdown

Visit one, or both, of the World Cup clocks in Jalisco. In the heart of Guadalajara, it’s located on Paseo Alcalde and its intersection with Avenida Hidalgo, while in Zapopan, you’ll find it on Andador 20 de Noviembre. Both clocks display the time remaining until Jalisco hosts the soccer celebration.

Guadalajara’s official poster for the 2026 World Cup

Designed by Mexican artist Mario Cortés “Cuemanche,” Guadalajara’s 2026 World Cup poster is a visual explosion that pays homage to Jalisco’s identity.

Among the most representative elements are:

Torta ahogada (Drowning sandwich)

Mariachi and charros (Charro Band)

Tequila

Iconic buildings such as the Degollado Theater, the Guadalajara Cathedral, the Expiatory Temple, and, at the center of it all, the imposing Guadalajara Stadium.

A lineup that not only ignites excitement for the 2026 World Cup, but also celebrates the culture, flavor, and spirit of Jalisco.
