Festival of The Wind (Festival del Viento) 2023

Published on

Every May is the Bucerias Wind Festival, an International Kiteboarding Championship.
It is a very popular event in the area, and it helps support riders to grow professionally and promote the Riviera de Nayarit as one of the best wind destinations in Mexico.
They have 3 categories: Regata, Freestyle, and Big Air.

Due to its geographic & climatic conditions (including strong winds and moderate waves),
Bucerías is one of the best kiteboarding destinations in Mexico. It is also very popular
for windsurfing and hydrofoil kiteboarding.

Below we’ll go over the wind season, El Festival del Viento, and some Puerto Vallarta kiteboarding schoolsto get some lessons.

Kiteboarding & wind season usually covers the months of February to June.

The north end of Banderas Bay is known to have pretty consistently good wind every afternoon. Usually starts around noon and on a good day continues until 5 – 7 pm.

The key to knowing if it’s going to be a windy day in Bucerias is to check the wind direction.
We like to use the Windy app to check wind conditions. Most of the time the wind is onshore
but it can swing a little to the west.

Kiteboarding or kitesurfing is a sport that involves using wind power with a large power kite
to pull a rider across a water, land, or snow surface. It combines the aspects of paragliding,
surfing, windsurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. Kiteboarding is among
the less expensive and more convenient sailing sports.

After some concepts that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s and some designs
were successfully tested, the sport received a wider audience in the late 1990s and became
mainstream at the turn of the century. It has freestyle, wave-riding, and racing competitions.
There are 1.5 million kitesurfers worldwide, while the industry sells around 100,000 to 150,000 kites per year.

Most power kites are leading edge inflatable kites or foil kites attached by about 20 m (66 ft) of flying lines to a control bar and a harness. The kitesurfer rides on either a bidirectional board (a “twin-tip”, similar to a wakeboard, a directional surfboard, or a foilboard.
They often wear a wetsuit in mild to cold waters. Subscribe to our youtube channel for more Mexican Travel videos.http://www.youtube.com/promovision/videos
