Estuary Trail: A Hidden Wildlife Oasis in Puerto Vallarta’s Hotel Zone. Most visitors to Puerto Vallarta stick to the beach, the Malecón, or the pool bar, but tucked right inside the hotel zone is a surprisingly wild escape most people never see.
The Estuary Trail is a short, easy walk that feels a world away from the resorts surrounding it. Within minutes of stepping onto the trail, the sounds of traffic fade and you are surrounded by mangroves, palms, and still water reflecting the jungle canopy above.
On my walk, I spotted huge green iguanas, some lounging along the banks and others climbing high into the trees, keeping a watchful eye on everything below. Near the water’s edge, freshwater turtles basked in the sun, barely moving as I passed. It is quiet, calm, and incredibly peaceful, especially considering you’re right in the heart of the hotel zone.
This trail is not about distance or difficulty. It is about slowing down, observing wildlife, and experiencing a side of Puerto Vallarta that most tourists completely miss. If you enjoy nature, photography, birdwatching, or just want a relaxing walk away from the crowds, the Estuary Trail is absolutely worth checking out.
