Golf

Description
It features 18 links-style holes, unfolding between the tropical rain-forest and the Pacific coast, surrounded by more than half a hectare of stunning landscapes. During your round of golf, you can enjoy the local wildlife: deer, iguanas, and butterflies that call this course home.

Tamarindo Golf

Also, if you’re lucky, during whale-watching season—which runs from December to March—you’ll witness an unforgettable spectacle: the majestic breaches of whales on the horizon, all while enjoying your game on this unique course facing the Pacific, surrounded by lush jungle.

Golf

The Tamarindo golf course is designed for players of all levels, with six different teeing areas on each hole. However, it presents a challenge, as its Fleming-signature design includes several sand traps strategically placed near the greens. Most of the holes meander through nature, but holes 8 and 9 offer the most spectacular views of the Pacific.

For golf lovers, El Tamarindo is a dream destination and a must-see experience during your visit to Costalegre.

Gastronomy

What to eat at Costalegre?

Whether enjoying a seafood feast under a beachside palapa or an exclusive dining experience at a luxury resort with panoramic views of the Mexican Pacific, Costalegre offers an unparalleled sensorial journey through the flavors of the Jalisco coast.

Representative specialties include garlic or grilled shrimp, red snapper fillet, octopus, and crab, as well as the iconic “pescado zarandeado” (zarandeado fish) and shrimp, octopus, oyster, and clam cocktails, all prepared with fresh and authentic ingredients.

But Costalegre’s cuisine isn’t limited to the sea. You can also delight in traditional dishes such as “pozolillo verde,” made with poblano pepper, cilantro, and oregano, or try “parota,” a tender seed stewed with egg. For dessert lovers and those who crave something sweet, tamarind sweets and ice creams are a must-try.

Traditional drinks complement this gastronomic journey. In addition to the iconic raicilla, an agave distillate with a Designation of Origin, it’s common to find tepache, tejuino, and coconut water, refreshing options that capture the essence of this coastal paradise.

Discover the unique flavors of Costalegre
In Cabo Corrientes, the town of Tehuamixtle is renowned for the quality and freshness of its oysters, which are served in a variety of ways: fresh, natural, grilled, with sauce, or right on the shell. To accompany these delicacies, nothing beats a sip of raicilla or a bite of its artisanal panela cheese, famous for its unmistakable flavor and texture.

In Tomatlán, the best-kept secret is the chilpete or chiltepín chili sauce, a traditional recipe prepared with this small chili, vinegar, and salt. Its intense flavor has become a hallmark of Costalegre cuisine, ideal for enhancing broths, soups, quesadillas, tacos, or grilled fish.

If you visit the Cajón de Peña Dam, one of Costalegre’s natural treasures, you must try the garlic sea bass, a signature dish of the region. The most special thing about this experience is that visitors can catch their own sea bass after a peaceful boat ride through the dam’s serene waters.

Seaside Cravings
From Yelapa to Punta Pérula, passing through Quimixto, Barra de Navidad, Melaque, La Manzanilla, and Tenacatita, the beaches of Costalegre are a paradise for seafood lovers. Here you can savor delicacies such as:

  • Seafood platters and seafood soup, perfect for sharing.
  • Tuna medallions and zarandeado fish or shrimp-stuffed fish, exquisite for their smoky flavor.
  • Octopus or red snapper in adobo sauce, with a deep, spicy touch.
  • Deviled or garlic lobster, ideal for those who enjoy intense flavors.
  • Coconut or Cajun-style shrimp, an explosion of textures and spices.
  • Black aguachile, a unique version prepared with shrimp, fish, or both, perfect to accompany with a refreshing drink while gazing at the Pacific.

Each dish at Costalegre is an invitation to enjoy the authentic flavors of Jalisco, framed by dreamy landscapes. Let yourself be amazed by the culinary magic of this corner of the Mexican Pacific.

What better way to get to know Costalegre than through its cuisine?

Mexico is considered one of the most important sanctuaries for the arrival of diverse groups of sea turtles. Each year, individuals of green, black, hawksbill, leatherback, loggerhead, and olive ridley turtles arrive at nesting beaches, feeding grounds, and specialized camps, sites that make our country a key territory for the conservation of turtles, one of the most ancient species on the planet. The Costalegre region of Jalisco is undoubtedly a benchmark in this field.

From September to December, the camps in La Gloria, in the municipality of Tomatlán, and those in Melaque and Barra de Navidad, in Cihuatlán, invite high schools and universities, biology students or related fields, and volunteers to participate in environmental protection, research, and education activities. The stay can be for a week, two weeks, or a month.

This volunteer program consists of beach patrol, caring for nesting females, collecting, planting, and caring for nests, as well as releasing hatchlings into the sea. It is an enriching experience that allows you to come into contact with nature, preserving a species considered at risk of extinction while enjoying the luminous beaches of Costalegre.
Mayto

Another site that combines the immense landscapes of Costalegre with sea turtle protection sanctuaries is the Mayto Turtle Camp, in the municipality of Cabo Corrientes. It was established in 2005 with the purpose of promoting environmental education and conservation to protect the tortoises.

At this secluded site, far from the urban hustle and bustle, you can also volunteer to monitor nests, collect eggs, and transplant them. In addition, you’ll witness the impressive wildlife that surrounds the area, populated by mammals such as deer and pumas, as well as the region’s native flora, mangroves, and a vast, 11.4 km (7 mi) pristine beach where you can camp, surf, play volleyball, or enjoy splendid evening walks to appreciate the spectacular sunsets this destination offers.
Careyes

Careyes is another benchmark in turtle conservation. Since 1983, Teopa Beach was transformed into a sanctuary that, from protecting ten nests that year, has grown to more than 2,600 nests in recent seasons. From October to December, baby turtles are released under the Environmental Education Program, aimed at the communities near the Teopa Sanctuary.

The sanctuary welcomes children and young adults from preschool to high school. However, the rest of the year, releases are made by reservation and availability of hatchlings, for the Careyes community and tourists seeking the opportunity to get up close to species such as the olive ridley, the black or brown sea turtle, the hawksbill turtle, and the leatherback turtle, which are abundant in the area, according to biologist Alejandro Peña.
