The mayor of Bahía de Banderas, Héctor Javier Santana García, officially presented the cultural and sports program for the Bahía de Banderas 2024 International Day of the Dead Festival, a three-day event that will have Spain as its guest country.

This festival, which seeks to promote tourism in Bahía de Banderas, expects the arrival of 300 thousand visitors and an economic impact of 60 million pesos, with a total investment of 6 million pesos. “We want Bahía de Banderas to be increasingly known for its culture, its traditions and its beautiful beaches,” said the mayor.

The festival will include a spectacular parade, the International Surfing Tournament and a maritime pilgrimage with more than 50 boats from Sayulita to Bucerías. There will also be a pilgrimage with candles, offerings and rondallas from the Sayulita plaza to the cemetery at Playa Los Muertos, as well as the Iron Swim Open Water tournament in Bucerías and a catrina contest in Sayulita.

Among the invited artists, various musical genres will be presented, highlighting Caloncho, Vaqueros Musical, La Sonora Dinamita and Banda de la Rosa. The objective of this festival is also to unite all the municipalities of the state of Nayarit. “I want to share with you with pleasure that I have already received confirmation from the majority of the municipalities of Nayarit that will be present at the different activities of this great festival that, for the first time, is organized by Bahía de Banderas,” said the president.

“We are in a position to offer the best experiences for Nayarit and the world in these three days.” The mayor announced that on Tuesday, October 29 at 7 pm the first catrina will be unveiled in Sayulita and at 8:30 pm the second will be unveiled in Bucerías.

For his part, the director of Tourism, Omar Dávila, added that “more than 40 floats will be accompanying the first day of the inauguration,” and that on the pilgrimage on November 1 there will be more than 10 mariachis in the Sayulita cemetery.

Ernesto Valdez, director of Sports, also indicated that the participation of the Pan American surfing champion, Sebastián Williams, has already been confirmed as a special guest.

Finally, Mayor Héctor Santana thanked the governor of the state, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, and the Secretary of Tourism of the state of Nayarit, for their support and collaboration in the organization of this event, which seeks to celebrate the culture and traditions of the region, as well as strengthen community ties and attract visitors who enjoy the cultural wealth of Bahía de Banderas.
