Ariel Awards in Puerto Vallarta: Sun, Beach, and the Stars of Mexican Cinema

Puerto Vallarta is preparing to host the Ariel Awards like never before; under a sky of movie stars, celebration, and hospitality. This is the first time in the history of the awards that a destination world-renowned for its beaches and the warmth of its people will, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, host the ceremony that recognizes the best of Mexican cinema.

The glamour of the 67th gala, coupled with the recognition of a selection of films that engage with Mexico’s past and present, makes this edition a unique opportunity to connect with cinema from another shore: that of the sea, celebration, and culture.

A Destination with a Gala Spirit
On the occasion of the Ariel Awards gala, Puerto Vallarta, its beautiful beaches bathed by the Pacific, its natural attractions, and its bohemian charm will be transformed into a city of cinema, light, and culture. The choice of Jalisco’s most important sun and beach destination seeks not only to celebrate but also to showcase cinema in venues outside of Mexico City and Guadalajara.

The Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center (CICPV), the chosen venue for the 67th gala, promises to host more than 800 guests, ranging from filmmakers and specialized press to influencers and producers interested in filming in Jalisco.

This edition also reinforces an itinerant strategy of the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC): to bring the Ariel Awards closer to the public, boost the cultural industry, and expand its geographic reach.

Puerto Vallarta, with its first-class tourist infrastructure—hotels, restaurants, natural settings—brings the ideal balance between glamour, hospitality, and authenticity.

The Ariel to the Sea
The Ariel Awards are the most important recognition of national cinema, the Mexican equivalent of the Oscars in Hollywood. Held by the AMACC (National Association of Film Producers), the Ariel Awards recognize everything from directing and acting to cinematography and sound design.

In the upcoming 67th edition, the Golden Ariel will pay tribute to key figures in the national film industry, such as leading actress, director, and producer Patricia Reyes Spíndola; actress Jacqueline Andere, who represents two key eras of Mexican cinema; and the Cinematographic Production Workers Union (STPC), active since 1945.

These awards symbolize both the legacy and continuity of the film industry in Mexico: a tradition upheld by generations and groups that have forged the country’s film identity.

And the nominees are…
Among the feature films leading the nominations for the 67th Ariel Awards in Puerto Vallarta, three titles stand out:

Pedro Páramo, the debut film by prestigious cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, with a record 16 nominations, including major categories such as Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Actor.

La cocina, by the acclaimed Alonso Ruizpalacios, with 15 nominations.
No nos moverán, by Pierre Saint-Martin Castellanos, also with 15 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Luisa Huertas.
Other notable films include Sujo with 13 nominations and Corina, which appears among the repeated mentions in the main categories.

Each of these films offers a distinct approach to Mexican cinema: Pedro Páramo, with a title that evokes the richness of national literature; La cocina, with the contemporary voice of Ruizpalacios; and No Nos Moverán (They Will Not Move Us), which powerfully revives historical themes and collective memory, such as the Tlatelolco massacre, with a sensitive performance by Luisa Huertas.

Puerto Vallarta: City of Film
For travelers and film lovers, the Ariel Awards gala is an invitation to visit Puerto Vallarta from a different perspective. Far from the typical postcards, this sun-and-beach destination will become a bridge between the highlights of national cinema, the red carpet at the International Convention Center, and the unique charms of the Friendliest City in the World.

Attending the gala, or simply being there on those dates, means witnessing a meeting where artistic recognition, the national imagination, and, of course, cultural tourism will converge.

Furthermore, the Ariel Awards will boost Puerto Vallarta’s visibility as an active film hub, which can attract future productions, as it has done with classics like The Night of the Iguana.

So, if you have travel plans or are simply passionate about unique and original stories, marking Saturday, September 20th on your calendar is highly recommended. Puerto Vallarta is ready to dazzle with its beauty, its people, and, above all, its passion for art created through a national lens.
