Our adventure starts in Puerto Vallarta where we take a local bus to Boca de Tomatlán for just 10 pesos. Buses leave every 10 minutes from the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitución and the scenic ride takes about 40 minutes through jungle-covered mountains along the coastline.
From Boca de Tomatlán we hop on a water taxi to Yelapa for 130 pesos each way. The 35-minute boat ride is spectacular as you cruise along cliffs, hidden beaches, and lush jungle coastline.

Once in Yelapa, everything is within walking distance:
Yelapa Waterfall (City Falls)
Less than 1 km (0.6 miles) from the dock, you’ll find a beautiful jungle waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff into a small pool where you can cool off.
Explore the Town
From the falls it’s about 1 km through town to the beach. Along the way you’ll find colorful streets, local homes, artisan vendors selling souvenirs, and plenty of bars and restaurants to grab a drink or authentic Mexican food.
Yelapa Beach
This protected beach is one of our favorites on the Bay of Banderas. Surrounded by towering green mountains, it is peaceful yet lively with beach clubs, restaurants, and parasailing right from the shore.
What makes Yelapa truly special is that there are no roads leading here, the village remains a laid-back paradise accessible only by boat.
