Best Beaches Puerto Vallarta
Playa Camarones
Camarones is also one of the most accessible beaches in the destination; you can get there by car, by bike along the bike path on the main avenue, or by public transportation. Our suggestion: walk up the beach, along the entire coastline; from Playa Las Glorias to the “Los Milenios” sculpture, right at the beginning of the Malecón.

Playa Los Muertos

Located at the south side of downtown Puerto Vallarta or Zona Romantica. Playa Los Muertos is one of Puerto Vallarta’s most popular and vibrant beaches, located in the Romantic Zone. It’s known for its lively atmosphere, golden sand, calm waters, and for being a social and cultural hub. It offers tourist services such as restaurants, bars, and watercraft rentals, and is a departure point for boat trips. The modern pier is a beach icon, ideal for taking photos and boarding water taxis to other beaches.
Playa Conchas Chinas
Conchas Chinas Beach in Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful, quieter beach located south of the Romantic Zone, about 10 minutes from downtown. It’s accessible on foot from Los Muertos Beach, by bus (route to Boca de Tomatlán or Mismaloya), or by car via Federal Highway 200 toward Barra de Navidad. It’s characterized by its clear waters, rock formations, and natural pools, although water shoes and caution when swimming are recommended due to the waves and rocks.
Tuki Playa

“Tuki” refers to a public beach club called TUKI, which opened on Palmares Beach, Puerto Vallarta, as part of the “Nuestro Puerto Renace” (Our Port Reborn) initiative. This club offers services and food and beverage areas on the beach, which is known for its soft, golden sand and has received the Blue Flag certification for its cleanliness and safety.
Playa Mismaloya
Playa Mismaloya is a beach located about 30 minutes south of downtown Puerto Vallarta, known for its natural beauty and emerald waters. It can be accessed by bus, taxi, or car. The beach offers restaurants, boat trips for snorkeling near Los Arcos, and a peaceful atmosphere. It is an iconic spot, popular because the movie “The Night of the Iguana” was filmed there.
Colomitos Beach
Colomitos Beach, Las Animas Beach, Quimixto Beach and waterfall and Yelapa Beach and water fall, when visiting Puerto Vallarta. Transport via Water Taxis is now a fixed rate of 550 pesos (Feb 2025) from Los Muertos Pier and 430 pesos (Feb 2025) via Boca de Tomatlan for any destination including out and back. You may find indepandent operators when available at Boca de Tomatlan.

Boca de Tomatlan Beach

This picturesque fishing village, nestled in a small bay about a 20-minute drive south of Puerto Vallarta, is the departure point for pangas and water taxis to other paradisiacal beaches such as Las Ánimas, Playa Caballo, Quimixto, and Yelapa.
Easily accessible by car or public transportation, the road to Boca de Tomatlán offers a scenic drive with stunning views of the bay.
Best Features
Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, this beach is isolated from the crowds.
It is only a 5 minute panga ride from Boca de Tomatlan.
Ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing and sunbathing.
How to Get There. Join one of the many day tours departing from Puerto Vallarta’s marine terminal, stopping at Playa Colomitos en route to other southern beaches.
How long is the hike to Playa Las Animas?
1.5 – 2.5 hours, if starting from Boca de Tomatlan. The duration of the hike will depend greatly on fitness level, speed, and whether you decide to stop at Colomitos along the way. Is there a restaurant at Colomitos Beach?
Continuing to Las Animas Beach

Las Animas is a very small village with a stunning beachfront. There are multiple restaurants and shops, as well as vendors and musicians.
Quimixto and Trail to Waterfall
Quimixto lies a captivating waterfall, the La Puerta River’s gift to nature lovers. The trail to the waterfall is an adventure, taking you through the town, along cobblestone streets, or beside the beach and across the river. Marked with signs to guide your way, the journey is as enjoyable as the destination.

Yelapa
Why It’s Romantic. Yelapa is a small fishing village between the mountains and the sea, ideal for a couple’s getaway. Its bohemian and relaxed atmosphere allows you to get away from it all. Here you’ll find small luxury boutique hotels offering top-notch amenities in unspoiled, intimate and authentic surroundings.

Best Features
Emerald waters with gentle waves bathe the beach of Yelapa. Plan a visit to the Yelapa Waterfall; you can walk up the hill or arrive on horseback. Historical objects and photographic exhibits are on display at the Yelapa Museum. How to Get There. Yelapa is only accessible by boat. It is 45 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta and about 25 minutes from Boca de Tomatlan. You can get there by panga boat from the dock at the beach of Los Muertos or from Boca de Tomatlan.

Hike to the waterfall
This tiny village has a very informal, laid-back ambiance. An interesting blend of a South Seas island lifestyle, an artists retreat and a hippie hangout – Yelapa’s an escape from civilization and a photographer’s dream! Photo opportunities on Yelapa are as diverse as the people who live here. The most popular activity on Yelapa is doing nothing at all, but if you’re feeling adventurous there are many things to see, do, and photograph. The golden sand beach is a superb place to snorkel, parasailing, or take snapshots of your Vallarta beach vacation. A short hike or horseback ride will take you to the tropical forest above the village, where you can take pictures of Yelapa’s 150-foot waterfall.
