Discovering Barra de Navidad – Melaque via Puerto Vallarta
The iconic towns of Bahía de Navidad are less than 70 kilometers from Manzanillo and just over 200 kilometers from Puerto Vallarta. This is an ideal destination for those who want to leave Guadalajara but are not too attracted to mass tourism or are looking for a more relaxing break.

For those seeking peace, picturesque scenery, and closeness to nature, the towns of Melaque and Barra de Navidad are a winning option. A pair of quiet communities, fishing villages with a rich cultural tradition based on old customs and unparalleled friendliness, separated by a short five-kilometer road and united by the blue waters of the Pacific.
The waves in Bahía de Navidad are gentle, and the beaches along its extensive coastline are semi-pristine, making strolls on the brown-golden sand a pleasant experience, but not without opportunities for fun, including surfing, fishing, diving, snorkeling, or simply enjoying the diverse local fauna, which includes turtles, deer, raccoons, seabirds, crocodiles, and, at certain times of the year, even whales. This makes it an attractive meeting point for eco-friendly tourists from Europe, the US, and Canada.

Staying in these towns, whose streets still retain the flavor of a typical fishing village and the tile and thatched roofs, leave a treasured experience.
Melaque offers a wide variety of accommodations, home rental options, and small hotels at fairly affordable prices. During the celebrations of Saint Patrick (the town’s patron saint) on March 17th, they go all out with popular festivals, rodeo demonstrations featuring imposing bulls, and religious celebrations.
Barra de Navidad, for its part, offers the historical memory of what was once a Spanish shipyard during the Viceroyalty, from which expeditions to the North Pacific and the Philippines set sail. Today, that old-fashioned port flavor blends well with the freshness of the nightlife and traditional fishing for different species, such as marlin, sailfish, dorado, and tuna. This allows you to savor fresh seafood, squid, clams, octopus, and fish like the sailfish and dorado, among other seafood delicacies.

And what about Cuastecomates? Less than a ten-minute drive from Barra de Navidad, it is the first inclusive town and beach on the Mexican Pacific with accessibility for people with disabilities. Adapted with signage, access, roads, furniture, and urban and amphibious equipment so it can be enjoyed equally by all, regardless of physical abilities, in addition to being a cardio-protected area with immediate medical care. Cuastecomates integrates the tropical rainforest, the beach with calm waves, and the view of imposing cliffs into a fishing village with a good selection of water sports and a wide variety of palapas (thatched roofs) for enjoying regional dishes.

But the best, as always on the beach, is offered by nature and the spectacular sunsets on the Barra de Navidad boardwalk, as the fishermen cast their last nets and the clouds turn pink and lilac over the turquoise waters. It is undoubtedly a must-see spectacle.
